President Barack Obama is endorsing the Palestinians’ demand for their future state to be based on the borders that existed before the 1967 Middle East war, in a move that will likely infuriate Israel. Israel says the borders of a Palestinian state have to be determined through negotiations.

Exactly. How else could any rational person explain the fact that Obama’s “commitment to peace” entails Israel losing all the ground it gained when it was attacked, under the expectation that it would be annihilated, in 1967?
Its kinda like “let’s go back in time and pretend that you lost when you were viciously attacked by those who wished to destroy you. We’ll start the ‘peace’ negotiations from there.”

Gaza and the West Bank was populated by Palestinians. Isreal offered to give the West Bank back to Jordan and they said no thanx, your problem now. Egypt was given back the Sinai but “allowed” Isreal to keep Gaza. The Golan Hts is the only purely strategic hold. So which pre 1967 borders is we talk’n bout Willis?
The only good thing about this is that finally Israeli/Palestinian talks will hopefully focus on something real, i.e. a map. And Canada might be one of the few real friends Israel has going into the September UN vote on this issue. Obama seems to want to be taking credit for the push of ME peoples to rid themselves of despots and move toward some kind of representative government. But what Obama did (with throwing in the 1967 map into his speech with no conditions attached to it) was to throw Israel under the bus and reinforce the notion that most ME problems are centered on an Israel/Palestine solution when that is simply not the case. The real problems have to do with economics and water shortages that hinder employment growth for a ME population explosion resulting in restless unemployed young Muslim males with time on their hands.
There is a valley called, “Armageddon”. As we watch Obama get closer to his end game,that valley and all it represents become clearer.
Good voters of the US can thank the ABC NBC CBS Times etal, but most of all they can thank the tank Oprah for “blessing” America with this man child in the white house. I have to admit – I’m puzzled by this speech of Obama’s. What puzzles me is not its content so much as its audience. WHO was it meant for? That’s what I don’t get. I’m wondering if it was meant for his far-left base.
It can’t have been for the Islamic nations who are moving, incrementally and acknowledging that it’s a hard rocky road, changing from the haplessness of authoritarianism – to democracy and a capitalist economy. These people have said that they are making these changes by and for themselves. They, the regular people on the street, want freedom to participate in their own political realm, in better jobs, and so on. They don’t need the US to do this for them; it has to be done by them..
And remember how Obama utterly ignored the Iranian demonstrators for freedom, how he equally ignored the Libyan rebels until France and the UK shamed into into joining..and he’s doing zilch there anyway; how he dithered about Egypt..etc. So, Obama isn’t a supporter of democracy. [Never mind his abuses of democracy in the US where he regularly bypasses and ignores Congress.]
Notice that Obama, the narcissist, of course claimed credit for these changes in the Arab World, suggesting that they are using the US as an example.
Oh – and Obama as usual, bashed Bush, with his mention that the ‘previous regime’ just made war while, he..er..He, the Great One, makes democracy. Remember, it was Bush that enabled the growth of democracy in Iraq, planting the seeds of that movement in the ME.
Was this speech for the Palestinians? No..why would Obama do this for them? After all, he’s done nothing for the other Arab nations.
Oh – and I must comment that the supposition by some, that ‘there’s no such people as the Palestinians’ and therefore…’they don’t deserve a nation’ is hogwash. Since when is a political construct, a nation, assigned (by whom?) only to distinct ethnic groups? That would leave out America and Canada as nations..and…
Was it against Israel? Why? Is Obama so naive and ignorant as to think that the changes in the Islamic world are due to the Israel-Palestinian situation? No – they are not; as nomdeblog points out, the changes in the Arab world lare due to massive increases in population over the last four decades…far beyond the economic carrying capacity of single-industry (oil and Suez tolls) statist economies. They need private capitalism and a middle class. Nothing to do with Israel and Palestine.
So- who is Obama talking to? Why the 1967 borders? Israel does indeed have a problem with this but it’s not about the borders per se. There is no way that Israel will give up the W Bank; it needs the land and above all- the aquifers. Surely Obama realizes this – so – why was he even suggesting it?
The problem for Israel is that it cannot annex the land, as most nations would do (spoils of war so to speak) because that would mean making the indigeneous population there citizens of Israel. And Israel won’t do this; they are the ‘wrong religion’. So, it must maintain an occupation rather than annexation.
I still suggest a solution – a unique federation of two states or territories within one Israel nation; each would look after their own immigration, citizenship, health care etc but set up a shared economy and a Congress dealing with national issues like water, resources etc. But that’s another story.
Who was this speech meant for? That’s what I don’t get. It was filled with nonsense – arrogant self-praise, ignorant suggestions…..Who was it meant for, since it obviously wasn’t really meant for any peoples in the ME.
