Not Waiting For The Guillotine

I remember when they did this over Climategate.

The CBC has truly lost its collective mind over the WikiLeaks release of the Afghan war logs. Despite denials from the families involved, despite denials from military officials and readily available eyewitness accounts, CBC continues to pretend that perhaps, just maybe the government is lying and four Canadian soldiers were killed by an American bomb…

Christie Blatchford , via Mark Collins;

This mess is not a WikiLeaks problem, nor a Canadian military problem, nor a Canadian government problem. It is a problem with the Canadian media – Ottawa-centric, conspiracy-embracing, unquestioning and unskeptical so long as the information seems damaging to the government, too quick to publish and, of course, absolutely without a shred of accountability. Shame on us.

Indeed.

  1. Go Christie. She had great articles from Afghanistan when she was there with the troops.
Hmmm? Christie might be a good fit for Kory’s new TV station.

  2. Has the CBC finished up their look in the mirror to determine whether they’re biased in their reporting yet?

  3. I have completely stopped watching the Canadian television media. The negativity becomes a drag on my “Canadian soul”. The country did not become as good as it has become through being a poorly managed entity over the last 143 years. I think the reality is the scurrilous, surlier, surreptitious, members of the entitlement baby boomer vanguard are now facing their mortality and recognize they have not really added anything to their “Canadian Soul”. Cheers

  4. I love it. No one of the mainstream media in Ottawa remembers that old fable, The Boy Who Cried Wolf! With every new piece of news they try to spin it into a crisis and expect everyone to be up in arms about it. But what they don’t seem to realise is that if something truly significant or noteworthy were to happen, the public will continue to ignore them.

  5. The NDP and CBC
    Agreed to go to battle,
    For CBC said NDP
Had stole their rights to tattle
    There came along a Taliban
Who let loose with both barrels,
Which frightened both our heroes, so,
    They quite forgot their quarrels

  6. I stopped watching the CBC TV news about 25 years ago, and my life has been better for doing so. If we’d all stop watching, maybe they’d go away…

  7. $1.3 billion taxpayer’s dollars flushed away annually by giving the money to the CBC.
    Scandalous.

  8. Just love it when the CBC proves once again that its the master of yellow journalism.
The number of viewers has dropped so dramatically over the decades that it can’t even afford chairs for its news cast. So sad for a once great organization.

  9. While CBC seems to taking the brunt of conservative criticism here, lets not forget Globemedia the Canadian MSM corporate giant whose Globe & Mail and CTV are only one degree separated from the CBc and CanWest Global as leftist propaganda spinners.
I keep harking back to the Tom Clark and Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay’s rumoured off air liaison, and thus Clarks’ credibility as a neutral commentator and subsequently nothing more than paid Liberal lickspittle.
Pity that Christie Blatchford left the Toronto Sun or the National Post a few years years ago.
Harper would massively regain the popularity polls if he announced privatizing the CBC tomorrow!

  10. This growing bloggy obsession with criticizing the mainstream media but still consuming it profusely. I don’t read, nor listen to, all the lefty media I don’t like (starting with the CBC). Period. Move on and enjoy the good things in life, people; you’ll be less bitter and more happy.

  11. You operate from a false premise, Alan. We do not “profusely consume” the MSM. Indeed, most of us come to blogs like SDA as aggregators of MSM spin so we can generally avoid direct contact with the MSM. Rather, we keep tabs on it in order to stay current with the level of spin, lies and deceit they broadcast, ostensibly as news.
While I have no doubt of the outcome of your suggestion, right-thinking people need to stay on top of MSM spin in order to counter it in the public arena.
I’m frightened to think what the MSM must have gotten away with in the pre-internet days.

  12. I accidentally read the comments on the CBC site. I feel dirty and demoralized. Why bother?

  13. another lesson on why the CBC should be defunded as soon as possible – thay are the epitome of what is wrong with Canadian journalism, and, in fact, should be considered un-Canadian

  14. Alan said “Move on and enjoy the good things in life, people; you’ll be less bitter and more happy”. Would that was true. One needs to read and watch some of the liberal/progressive propaganda if for no other reason than to counter the information among your immediate circle of acquaintances.

  15. Kate @ 10:51: I hear you, Mike. I didn’t know this particular controversy existed until I got an email about it.

Well, I did and I don’t have a TV and rarely listen to the radio. Except for talk radio, those two mediums are dead, yet we have to pretend that CBC is the still the greatest thing since sliced bread. Well, maybe when sliced bread was a new thing….
The blogosphere and the internet in general rule. Even the CBC’s attempt to move some of its programs and services into the digital realm doesn’t seem to have helped them. They don’t get it. It’s not the medium itself that’s the ticket. It’s that everybody and his dog can now tell their own story (no need for a middleman any more) and can catch the MSM in their lies.

  16. CBC is to freaking stupid to know that field notes are just that, soldiers opinions, gossip and heresay reported at the basic level and passed on the chain of command to investigate. I pity the families, CBC dragging their sorrow through the mud hoping to score cheap political points against Harper.

  17. there is little difference between CBCpravda and CTVtass news agency. the difference being most people expect CBCpravda to spew propoganda whereas CTVtass is expected to be more even.

  18. I guess it’s too much to ask to have everyone who works for the CBC fired today, their buildings torn down to rubble and a 50 foot wall put up around their Toronto headquarters so that the polluted land can never be used again?

  19. Our leftwing MSM try to stir up shyt where is isn’t. Their bias and prejudice is so overwhelmingly obvious now that I no longer even consider them to be legitimate news organizations. CBC and The Star for example are propaganda rags, nothing more.

  20. I gave up the CBC for Lent one year and slept like a baby. I was uusally so riled by their willfully ignorant crap, I’d go to bed fuming.
I only watch it very occasionally now to find out what garbage they’re spewing THIS time. It’s always something.
They’re all Johnny One Notes in the minor key. For all their “education,” they’re a bunch of ignoramuses with an attitude. AND we’re paying for it. ‘Something terribly wrong here.

  21. The nerve of the CBC! How dare they question any reports put out by our Conservative government? Everybody knows that the US, and especially their military, are inveterate liars, who would do anything to smear our soldiers, even taking blame for their deaths by US friendly fire.

  22. rove, look up, way up. There is a point up there that you missed. NO, NO not the one at the top of your head. The top of the thread. Read and learn.

  23. Hmmm…I wonder if there’s any truth to the rumour that a lying CBC reporter got hit by “friendly fire” — i.e. that a fellow Canadian finally got fed up with the CBC’s treasonous propaganda and decided to “off” one of them?
And I wonder if any more of our soldiers will be killed by the enemy as a result of the leaking of the classified military documents, which Peter Mansbridge gleefully chuckled about the other night. Our dead soldiers are already gone — we need to worry about the ones who could be killed in the future if treason continues to go unpunished.

  24. I can only imagine the distress the parents feel over this propaganda move by CBC, with the leech like Media in Ottawa in acting malignant as usual.
Did no one think about their right to privacy? Especially after the cost of losing their children
for this Nation. Triple shame on them. To bad they have NONE!!!!
This is what 40 years of Relativism has produced. Hope your happy Libs, because Trudeau the ultimate Progressive nut has piped us to our extinction event as a Country.
No society can survive without Ethics or Morals. As soon as a people with real convictions come along, this disease of nihilism dies along with the culture buffaloed into believing it.

  25. Rove you twit the survivors of said Taliban raid confirmed the official report not the field notes and heresay CBC hails as the truth.

  26. I am building a house on the south end of a remote island in the Discovery islands of BC’s Georgia Strait. Frequently our airforce uses this area for training runs and one sunny day two CF18’s came charging up the channel towards our building site. The second plane must have had us locked on with his instruments because he waggled his wings at us and as one the whole crew raised their arms and yelled.
I would rather have our military than the CBC. The CBC is supposed to unite this country but they are a subversive organisation and do nothing for this country compared to the sacrifice and bravery of our military.
Get rid of the CBC and use the money to pay for the new planes.
