I want to know why our traffic laws permit this;
The other day I was driving and saw something I have been noticing more frequently lately – a woman behind the wheel wearing a niqab, or face veil, in addition to her hijaab, or head scarf. The opening for her eyes was so narrow, I couldn’t see them.
She could be hiding a cell phone.
h/t Mike
It should be illegal for them to drive with those body bags on, in fact didn’t one burka wearer driving a school bus kill a child in Calgary?
“She could be hiding a cell phone.”
Are you listening Dalton? LOL
Sure its a she?
I say let them wear it and die from vitamin D deficiency.
Yes Rose, a woman wearing a towel around her head while driving a school bus, drove off the road here in Calgary.
I used to have a Bell 90 bike helmet. It was outlawed. Something about at least 120 degrees of vision. This is the USA, of course, so the Canadian rules may be different.
Was the niqab measured and tested?
I’ve seem the women driving with just a slit for the eyes. How can that not be impaired driving?
If they are that serious about being Muslims that they dress like that how can it be that they are allowed to drive a car or be out in public without an escort?
What nonsense! Everyone knows that REAL Muslim women are not allowed to drive.
I didn’t think their religon allowed women to drive.
I am gratified that I was not alone in noting women are not allowed to drive in Saudi etc and must occupy the rear seat….even if spouse is the driver.

Maybe because I have more nerve than most—-for a while I polled various Police, I encountered, about whether the “brain-bucket” I am required to wear riding a bike is legal in a car/truck. The universal response was that such an act would be a “fine thing”. Obstructed vision…..
As Osama above said. Muslim women not allowed to drive.
The problem here is that we don’t have the whole of sharia law in force. Apparently it is a well thought out, well planned system, and cannot be used only in bits and pieces. *cough*
So the answer is to not allow any of it. If they like it so much, why bring it here and ruin things for all of us?
In deference to our new muslim overloards, I demand we enforce sharia law — all of it.
This woman must be stoned to death for driving.
There seems to be a plethora of women in traditional Muslim dress of late. I really don’t think they are coming in droves (well they are, but not that fast) but that rather, it has become daring and chic to piss off their hosts. I refuse to look at women who wear too much face coverage; I certainly don’t talk to them even when asked for directions, etc..
Damn fool women driving blind are one major reason I drive a pickup truck. If all else fails the cab goes -over- the burka wearing doofus who hung a left in front of me.
Frankly though, I don’t think the full coverage headgear with the tiny slit will make her drive any worse than some of the other brain-dead goofs of both sexes I’ve seen on Toronto roads. I’m strongly thinking of adding nerf bars and a kangaroo catcher for my trips into Hogtown. The place is f-ing dangerous.
larben: “I refuse to look at women who wear too much face coverage …”
I’m with you, larben. I pass them and refuse to make eye contact (well, how would/could I? You can barely see their eyes through the damned eye slit).
In fact, I have to restrain myself from saying something nasty, like “take that stupid thing off! You look RIDICULOUS.”
It’s time we made and enforced laws against this kind of covering and to Hell with the “sensitivities” of our new citizens. They can darned well begin to get hip to our sensitivities and OUR WAY OF DOING THINGS. After all, they’re in our country; They CHOSE to come to Canada so they should damned well live by our rules: ‘Get it, pols?
Let’s straighten up and fly right and expect them to do the same. They’re not in Kuwait anymore.
Hey. Phantom! I live in downtown Tranna and you’re RIGHT.
The drivers here are friggin’ nuts; that’s what happens when you let entitled, I’m-so-special-SO-special-that-I-don’t-have-to-follow-the-rules-even-on-the-road morons behind the wheel.
Usually within just two blocks of my house I’ve seen at least two drivers do something really stupid and really dangerous. I honk and glare. I’ve grown eyes on the sides and back of my head but, even then, there’s no guarantee some eedjit’s not going to crash into me. (And THEN there are the bikers. Don’t get me started …)
Prayers, please!
Is everyone watching Mad Men? 😉
I live in Toronto, and it’s routine to see at least one Darth Vader wannabee in their death suit when you go out pretty much anywhere downtown. IN some parts of town tney are seen in groups.
I keep hearing that there are only a “handful” of niqab wearing women in Canada, but based on the Toronto experience that must be a gross underestimate.
In Europe ever more countries are planning to ban the niqab. Will that drive more of these things into Canada?
They’re here, increasing in numbers every day.
It’s time for Canada to follow France’s lead (did I just say that?), and ban the Muzzy potato sack.
Sorry, was that insensitive of me?
“In fact, I have to restrain myself from saying something nasty, like “take that stupid thing off! You look RIDICULOUS.””
“HAPPY HALLOWEEN” in combination with the ‘evil eye’ hand gesture is appropriate greeting for tent people.
I’m going to Ontario in a few days. I think I’ll wear a ski mask and see if I get pulled over.
I’ve seen the same thing here in Saskatoon.
I can only assume that no police officer has pulled over a niqab-clad driver for having an obstructed view. If one had, I’m sure that a Human Rights Commission complaint would have been filed.
Maybe that Calgary incident was a ‘martyrdom operation’ that did not pan out..?
Hmmm?
How about it, Bush-did-the-towers crowd?
Maybe it was an eeevil Jooo in disguise to discredit the hefty-bag dress up crowd?
Yeah, that’s it!
That was easy.
Cool it folks. It was only an Islamist in drag.
This is not tolerated under our traffic laws.
It is tolerated under our incompetent law enforcement and warped judiciary.
