We get e-mail:
I thought to write you this short note with less than 44 hours to go before kick-off at the BC Lions’ first home game of the 2010 CFL football season. As you are likely already aware, this season will be a unique one as the Lions’ return to Empire Field and will play all their home games outdoors while BC Place receives its new retractable roof.
Unfortunately, the Mayor of Vancouver, Gregor Robertson, has thrown a wrench into the opening ceremonies by not allowing an Air Force CF-18 fighter jet conduct a fly past at 500 feet AGL (Above Ground Level). Earlier today, the Mayor notified the BC Lions’ office that he had changed his mind and would no longer allow the fly past to take place. The President of the BC Lions, Mr. Dennis Skulsky, has tried to contact the Mayor directly to discuss the matter but Mayor Robertson has made himself unavailable.
So with that said, I’ve decided to contact all my friends, colleagues and business associates that are supporters of our men and women in uniform to advise them of this unfortunate development and to solicit your support to have Mayor Robertson honour his word and re-approve this fly past which I believe will allow the fans at Saturday’s game cheer for our troops.
Mayor Robertson’s telephone number is 604-873-7621 and e-mail is gregor.robertson@vancouver.ca should you wish to make your thoughts on this issue known…….the troops appreciate your support.
Because that nasty, loud jet-plane might disturb the heroin addicts, pollute the trees in Stanley Park, and drown out the foul-mouthed tirade of the street-person harrassing you for the change in your pocket, you know.
Update: SDA gets results!
Someone tell Chairman Mayor that he has no say in whom may fly in Canadian airspace. Talk about an arrogant person. Pist a Sea King fly past over his house would be a nice jesture would it not? Pat Bay calling Pat Bay Sqad.
Looks like it is on and there were no plans to block it, at least that’s what they’re saying:

Now a Sea Thing flying over my house (as they occasionally do) is something to worry about. With 2000+ parts flying in close formation you never know when something will fall off. Lord knows those technicians spend a lot of time keeping stuff older than their boss flying. You can thank Uncle Jean Creton for that one (among others).
I just heard the President of the BC Lions on the radio confirming that a CF-18 will do a fly-over of Empire Field to celebrate the home opening of Lions’ season. He claimed Pretty Boy is all in favour. Guess he raised some hackles, eh?
Go Riders!

Typical Commie, neo fascist dipshit… Mayor douche-bag doesn’t want it for himself, and he doesn’t want it for you either.
May I suggest firing Robertson out of a cannon instead.
Every year the Blue Angels fly in San Francisco for Fleet Week. They are a big tourist draw although they are loud as hell.
Every year without fail the leftist loonies petition the Board of Stoopidvisors to end the show. Some cite military imperialism, promotion of the military and even PTSD. Luckily a liberal’s greed and lust for power is stronger than their hatred for the military and other peeves which they call “principles.”
Give the CAF the grid coordinates of the guy’s house.
Colin one must think beyond simple stage one thinking. I realize that someone in Powell River has no vote in civic politics in Vancouver. Give me some credit. That person can have a say in provicial and federal politics by electing an individual that will support the sanctioning of Vancouver if they keep electing the Mayor of Leftorium. The problem is people keep electing idiots at all levels of govenment thinking that there are no consequences. The would be if we thought beyond stage one thinking. (with thanks to Thomas Sowell)
The fly by has not been cancelled. This was a false rumour.
But how about the 1 million bicycles Robertson said have used the bike lane on the Burrard st. bridge in the last year. That is almost 3000 a day, not likely.
For more on this see Alex G. Tsakumis Rebel With a Clause. About the only journalist around Vancouver who is aware of how dangerous the left are on the left coast.

“Maybe a boycott BC is in order..no more tourist dollars will be coming from this prairie family.

Yeah, that’ll hurt us.
I’m going to be heading out to Saskatchewan in just over a week to see my family. I’ll boycott the Frosty Treat on the edge of my home town in retaliation.
Hey gord and Phantom, say his to my brother for me, he lives in Hooterville also. It is great to crawl through that Lancaster when it visits Saskabush.
That CF-18, if I remember it right, uses as much fuel in a vertical climb as I used to use seeding my crop.
How can someone so seriously out of touch with people even get to be mayor? Also, why is this a decision the mayor can make, and not council? Did he get dictatorial powers when we weren’t looking?
This whole story never did make any sense .The only people who have any say for fly bys of AC over urban areas is Transport Canada…In short some editor with either an ax to grind with Vancouver’s mayor or with eye to increasing circulation made it up .
Seems like Vancouver’s media are still living down to their usual standard .
The City (Vancouver) doesn’t have a say about such matters unless the aircraft in question wants to go faster than 250 kts or lower than 2,000 feet….then the City gets a say. Thanks for all your support my friends as the fly-past in now ON at 500 feet Above Ground Level at slow speed then going vertical at the North end with after burner! OOWHAH!
Yeehaw. I love watching those planes and the sound is incredible. It’s thrilling and fun, well we can see why ol’ Gregor doesn’t like it.
