Blog Notes

For the past couple of weeks, the SDA comment filters have been under constant bombardment from spammers.
While I usually try to pull the legitimate comments out of the mess and approve them, at other times I’ve just sent everything to the big spam folder in the sky.
So if you posted a comment that was never “approved” – that’s what happened. My apologies. The best way to avoid the filters in the first place is to refrain from profanity, multiple links, and the use of the letter “k” in triplicate at the beginning of my name.
Thanks, and have a great Dominion Day “weekend”.

  1. Happy Dominion Day! Fireworks tonight at Diefenbaker Park, but Dakota Dunes’ fireworks are on Sunday, the 4th. The families from the reserve nearby are originally from the US.

  2. Just heard on Bret Baier (Fox) that IRAN has issued a statement condemning the ‘police action’ in Canada at the G20! That oughta’ really please Travers and Haroon at the TorStar.

  3. Happy Canada Day indeed! Warm, dry, lots of food, a bit of money, a good running Hog and nobody is shooting at me. Thanks Canada.

  4. Thanks for the notice. Is it better to use URL shorteners instead of hyperlinks?

  5. Kate, you are a woman among girls.
And thanks for referring to it as Dominion Day.

  6. Happy Dominion day Kate.
Your blog has less problems than most. I think it has to do with your unique format.

  8. Happy Dominion day Kate and Friends!!
I thank God for Canada, warts and all.
Kate I’ve really enjoyed your extra particiaption with your blog comments for the last week or so.

  9. Canada Day, Dominion Day (if you are old enough to remember), wife’s birthday and the 4th of July, my first week in July is a holiday season. As a kid growing up today signified the start of summer holidays, out to the camp or loading up the camping gear for a road trip.
So, whether you celebrate today with fireworks, a parade or just sipping a beverage as your bbq dinner burns, have a Happy Holiday, eh.

  10. Happy Dominion Day!! My Red Ensign looks great flying beside the Maple Leaf flag… Happy Dominion Day, to all.

  11. Just a quick “Thank You” to you Kate for maintaining such a terrific blog, and for addressing today by its proper name, Dominion Day.
I also fly the Canadian Red Ensign in front of my home.
    God bless Canada.

  12. Geez, kate, you suffer from spammers?! That’s horrible.
Now, anyone who needs help obtaining online pharmaceuticals, access to African bank accounts, or.. ahem.. increasing the size of their male appendage, please contact me.
    Because it’s Dominion Day.

  13. Happy Dominion Day to all. I am old enough to remember when it was Dominion Day.
Thanks for the blog site Kate. It is great and the occasional slight disagreements between libertarians and conservatives are actually good in that, for me at least, I take a closer look at my views. I think most of us want as little government interference in our lives as possible. There are a lot of people that check the site out, but never comment. I know some of them.
Sammy @ 6:35, that was rich. LOL

What bluetech said and then some.
The ongoing debate twixt yourself, Mark, Kathy and Mike is absolutely required and good on you for pushing the issue.
Kathy speculates about the rural/urban split while Mark hints at the educational angle.
This is of course a class issue.

  15. Happy Dominion Day to all and especially to those troops serving elsewhere. Thanks to Kate for a fabulous blog.- Paul

I respect your take. I agree that this is in tempest territory, so much about nothing yet where I perceive the divide is in context.
I am a fan of Rob Breakenridge on QR77, intelligent, well read, prepared, thoughtful….yet Rob has taken the Steve Paiken position.
I think Kate said it best on a prior thread regarding Obama and socialism. Actual was the key word.
In my world everything the piss and moaners so eloquently described has actually happened to me at one time or another.
Some of it I deserved…some not. So be it.
Hence my claim that this is a class issue.

  20. It is a cool Dominion Day (thanks for using the proper name Kate and SDAers) in Whitehorse but we have lots to celebrate so, in spite of the weather, it is a great day to celebrate the big, beautiful country we call home.

  21. our day in july –
as much as i pretend to understand that the only constant is change ( no! julius rattlestick – i was not referring to you and i don’t consider it sentimental); occasionally, it’s a real treat to chance upon something familiar.
