Those adjustments were made by New Zealand climate scientist Jim Salinger, a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change who started work on the series when he was with the University of East Anglia, the centre of the Climategate scandal. (Salinger was dismissed by NIWA this year for speaking without authorisation to the media.)
The New Zealand Climate Science Coalition, which created the last two graphics and includes an IPCC reviewer, now alleges that Salinger and NIWA have refused to explain the basis on which the data was adjusted:The shocking truth is that the oldest readings have been cranked way down and later readings artificially lifted to give a false impression of warming, as documented below. There is nothing in the station histories to warrant these adjustments and to date Dr Salinger and NIWA have not revealed why they did this.

It is interesting that when the climate change reality was in its infancy after being discovered in the late 80s, large polluters such as Exxon Mobile spent millions of dollars telling everyone it was a myth and they continue to spend millions to propagate this myth. It is also interesting to note that the biggest opponents of a carbon tax squawk that it will destroy the economy. Well, Sweden has had a carbon tax since the 1990s and they continue to have a robust economy. Other jurisdictions with such a tax haven’t collapsed. All that squawk is right wing pap woven inside corporate greed. Furthermore, Australia has just embarked on a very promising and ambitious carbon reduction mandate and the Prime Minister of Australia is an ardent supporter of the reduction of greenhouse gases as well as the consideration of measures such as carbon taxes that will force compliance. The Copenhagen Accord may not be ratified in December, however it is promising that all the major players, including the USA will be at the table. Hopefully when they meet again in June, 2010 an agreement will be close.

In that case, how can there be a “Scientific Consensus” about Global Warming when there is no Science being conducted ?

To Ken: thanks for the note on the G&M on-line pole.
To all: notice the psychological tricks employed by the fear mongers as well. When they plot temperature records they often show temperatures below the average in blue, and above in the average in red.
The choice of two colours, red (hot) vs. blue (cool), is intended to make the hotter temperatures look more terrifying than the colder temperatures.
Heaven forbid that the public should be permitted to see an unbiased presentation of the data.
Considering how many thousands of scientists are claimed to be on side with AGW, it’s odd that the same names keep showing up again and again.

It wasn’t discovered in the ’80s, it was created by the Thatcher government in England as a play to take power away from the Coal Miners Union and promote nuclear power to take it’s place, thereby removing the initiative that the communists behind the Coal Miners Union had to disrupt the energy supply in the UK during the Cold War.

It seems that the AGW crowd has decided that a trend is “false” only if it fails to generate global warming, and that the data must be “homogenised” to produce warming, i.e. the only “true” trend. I gather that “homogenise” is a buzzword for “manipulate”.

I think I’m losing my mind; I feel like throwing my radio out the window every time I hear news about climate change or Bill Good yaks about it. How long can these dimwits pretend these emails didn’t get out?
Gad, this is SO like the 1990’s in gun control. The straw that broke that camel’s back was when Arthur Kellermann refused to release his raw data to the Congressional committee looking into malfeasance at the CDC in its gun control “research”.
But the real set-up for the last straw was Newt Gingrich’s “Contract With America” that got the Republicans a congressional majority in 1994. It put people on the committee willing to ask Kellermann for the data in the first place.
After the CDC got their wings clipped the pool of money for bent research on gun control dried up. These days Kellermann does “research” on kid’s bicycle helmets. Once a safety nazi, always a safety nazi.
Therefore I expect the AGW crew to cling on to this through the 2010 election. Because they are inflexible, stupid and venal, basically. They can’t come up with another scam quick enough, so they will ride this one down in flames. After November 2010 nobody except the fruitbat fringe will even mention AGW ever again.
If you’ve got stock in solar or anything to do with “alternative” energy, now would be a good time to dump it. The sucker rally is almost over, and those companies won’t be getting any better in the post-Obama era.
Also look for the biofuels/ethanol scam to come to a slow and soggy end over the next five years.

We shouldn’t be letting governments off the hook. A few crooked scientists wouldn’t have any influence without government support. The true criminals here are all governments that have enthusiastically used this shakey, sloppy science to justify stealing more of our private property. What is especially disconcerting for me is that in spite of the Conservative claim to believe in private property rights they are still participating in Copenhagen and otherwise claiming that “the Americans made us do it.”
T: There has never been any conclusive evidence of man-made global warming. If you insist on stealing my private property, the onus is on you to prove your case. So far, all your side has proven is its inability to conduct proper scientific investigation.

I suggest we all take a deep breath, sit back and read today’s column in the Toronto Sun written by Lorrie Goldstein.
He contends that, despite the hard evidence that AGW is based on a huge fraud, Big Government, Big Business and Big Green have likely successfully pulled it off in their effort to get into our wallets for profit and taxes as well as lowering our ability to have the individual freedom to pursue happiness. It has gone too far to reverse.
My fear is he is likely correct.
I am so glad that “T” straightened us all out with his fact laden and authitative post, complete with links and footnotes documenting each and every claim.

What’s surprising is the sheer number of posts and the number of posters who are questioning the orthodoxy.
If you want a look at an alarmist in full retreat, with no argument to rely on except the wild assertions of the people and organizations that created this farce in the first place, watch the video from Fox at the end of the first link in Kate’s post (Stuart Varney is the interviewer).
It’s worth the ten minutes it takes — all good viewing, but the pathetic fool comes on around half-way through. His non-arguments used to work (Gore uses them all the time), but no longer.
It’s quite a sight to see someone being confronted with evidence but falling back like a robot on the talking-points he learned at Al Gore’s indoctrination seminars. I hope that other alarmists will keep on questioning the authenticity of the emails, just as this guy does. You know they’re in trouble when that’s their best line of defence.

If you’ve got stock in any company, you should examine the company on its own merits, no matter what economic sector. An energy company is an energy company, and people always need energy, so do your due diligence on the particular company involved. And, if most people are following the Phantom’s advice on a company you like, the stock price will go down and you can Buy Low.
