Well, let’s hear three cheers for The National Post with it’s page A14 Editorial titled “Standing tall in Uganda”. It’s the most common sense opinion on Harper’s common sense approach.
Given the Leftist bent of most of the MSM we’ve come to conclude that common sense isn’t so common so this is a rare exception.
Re John–Pawn?–Godfrey leaving politics to become head master of the Toronto French School: he was quoted yeterday on CBC radio as saying his major regret was not being able to continue to work with Dion on the Green file.
But, not to worry, he said he’ll have 1300 [impressionable] young people to inform [propagandize] about his pet project. If I had a child at the Toronto French School, I’d not be too happy about forking out $thousands to have my kid brainwashed by Monsieur Godfrey.
That he didn’t think to keep his global warming prpagandizing ambitions to himself also shows what an arrogant you-know-what he is. Liberals have no shame–“We don’t need to: we’re Liberals.”–so what else would one expect?
Hey Liz,according to Moonbat McQuaig at the Tor.Star, the media treats PMSH with ‘kid-gloves.Note this beauty from today’s column (re:Harper’s performance in Uganda):
Last weekend Harper seems to have single-handedly undermined efforts by Commonwealth leaders mtg.in Uganda to come up with a communique calling for strong action on global warming-a position that would have given momentum to upcoming UN talks aimed at producing a follow-up deal on Kyoto.
Harper gets away with being badly out of sync with Canadian public opinion on this crucial issue largely because of the kid-glove treatment he gets in the Canadian media.Commentators relentlessly flail Lib.leader Dion for his awkwardness and ineffectiveness, while saying little negative about Harper.
She goes on about Kyoto, then sums up with this gem:”But here in Canada, our commentators know the big story is Dion’s lacklustre performance”

Islamic blog City of Brass wades in on the Sudan teddy bear flap:
Where is it written that “insulting the Prophet” is a “grave offense” ? Is it in the Qur’an? Hadith? Upon what jurisprudence is the law of Sudan based? Far from this law being based in Islam, it’s actually invented without a single source of Islamic law to justify as source. The law of Sudan is, in effect, bida’a.
That is all beside the point, however. No rational person can consider naming a teddy bear “Mohammed” to be an insult. Especially given that Mohammed is the single most common name in the muslim world.

A neat two-page, concise history of the facts including some perspective on several population exchanges and some interesting info on “Palestinians” and citizenship: The government of Jordan granted Palestinian Arabs a form of citizenship, but kept them in refugee camps. In the other Arab countries, they were and remained stateless aliens without rights or opportunities, maintained by U.N. funding. Paradoxically, if a Palestinian fled to Britain or America, he was eligible for naturalization after five years, and his locally-born children were citizens by birth. If he went to Syria, Lebanon or Iraq, he and his descendants remained stateless, now entering the fourth or fifth generation.

me no dhimmi – TVO Agenda has a nice series on the Palestinian-Israeli situation. You probably missed yesterday’s opening session, which was excellent, made up of ‘both sides’ and presented a reasoned, well-articulated and extremely knowledgeable outline. I don’t know if you can see it by going to their http://www.tvo.org website. The series continues today, tomorrow and Thursday.
I was particularly impressed by Dr. Beshara Doumani, a History prof. from U of Berkeley. His knowledge of the history is quite impressive.
Some things pointed out by the panel were that it was quite evident that the Zionist plan required a Jewish majority, that it required that Palestinian landowners be both bought out and ‘strongly encouraged to leave’; that it was also evident that the UN plan for a Palestinian state was empty. The discussion about the early notions of a Jewish state, the Ottoman breakdown, the British era, the UN post WWII ‘guilt trip’, the Arab agenda in the Six Days War, the myths of the ’empty land’ etc, – were really excellent.
If you can somehow get to see last night’s discussion, it was excellent. I hope that the rest of the series will be as good.
Of course, you are aware that Israel has always refused to recognize a Palestinian state, although, more and more Israelis are amenable to such a state.
There is every reason to reject citizenship of refugees from Palestine in Jordan, Syria, etc. If you do that, you deny them, forever, the right of being citizens of Palestine; you openly say that you ‘give up’ on the notion of a Palestinian state.
Bernard Lewis operates, in my view, in a ‘Hegelian idealism’ that is, his focus is on concepts (eg, that Islam is in a ‘clash of civilization’ with the West). I think that’s a superficial perspective of the real roots of Islamic fascism. In other words, I’m not a fan of his work as a historical analyst.

Via Israpundit, a lengthy entry on the myth of “moderate Islam”: Who’s the Bigger Threat to America: The Dishonest Moderate Muslims or the Honest Jihadists?
Is “Moderate Islam” an illusion? Moderate Islam is a wedge that will jam open the door to Jihad, and “evil will triumph when good Muslims do nothing.” The great majority of Muslims are not adherents of the radical line. Yet, because the Islamists wage their war under the name of Islam, they receive immense direct and indirect support from the rank-and-file ordinary Muslims. It is this support of moderate Muslims that keeps the Jihadists alive. And it is the Jihadists who intend to show no mercy to any and all who do not share their theology, be they Muslims or not.
For the record, all Muslims, moderates, radicals, Shiite, Sunnis and other sects and sub-sects of Islam are in unanimous agreement that the Quran is the word of “Allah.” All Muslims are also in agreement that “Allah” spoke through the Angel Gabriel to Muhammad. Allah declares, “The book is not to be doubted.”
…
Unfortunately, even some Islam-realists fall short. When they are put in front of the camera, they refuse to acknowledge that it is Islam that is the source of evil, so they resort to a redundant phrase of how “moderates” can reclaim the faith. The whole thing is truly bizarre. I have yet to hear, whenever a moderate Muslim is asked about the true nature of Islam, ‘Hold on here! I do not agree with your revisionist thinking. I am an Islam-realist. We believe Islam is in and of itself a religion of evil, and I declare it, not from the view of a particular religious dogma, but from a humanistic and common sense definition of morality, not because of what some belief was inserted into the Quran but because of:
1_What Muhammad said that remains unabrogated.
2_What Muhammad did (and said while he was doing it).
3_What Muhammad did not say or command or support that is good.
4_ What Muslim consensus has been for every century afterwards.
5_What the governing code of Muslim terrorists is today.’
Islam is, therefore, in total, universally, and innately evil.
It actively encourages some of the most debased, inhumane treatment of people known to man, regardless of which dogma you compare it to (religious or secular).

the back end of MacEachen’s career.
From 1984 to 1991 he served as leader of the opposition in the Senate, where he was regarded as the primary opposition to Brian Mulroney’s first term due to Mulroney’s substantial majority in the Commons, with an opposition that was spread nearly equally between Turner’s Liberals and Ed Broadbent’s New Democratic Party. In 1988, after a request by Turner, MacEachen blocked the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement in the Senate to force an election before the issue was settled. The agreement would be the main issue of the 1988 election. After Mulroney’s victory, MacEachen and the Senate passed the agreement.
After the election, MacEachen again used the Senate to block the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax. Brian Mulroney recommended for appointment several new sentators, and used an emergency power in the Constitution Act, 1867 that allowed him to recommend for appointment eight new Senators. MacEachen then led a filibuster against the bill, with Liberal members defying speaker Guy Charbonneau. Charbonneau voted for Tory motions. The Liberal senators used other tactics to delay Senate business. Soon, the motion was passed, and the Progressive Conservative majority passed new rules for the Senate forbidding such actions.
MacEachen retired from the Senate in 1996 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 75, and became a one-dollar-per-year adviser to the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Further controversy ensued in 1998 when it was discovered he was still using a full Senate office
Special Report
An Epidemic of Falsehoods
By Michael Fumento
The UNAIDS program has issued its annual report in which, finally, it doesn’t say how many more current HIV infections there are this year than last. Rather it drops the figure by over six million from its 2006 estimate. Specifically, it went from 39.5 million to 33.2 million. Further, the Agency now admits the number of new HIV infections per year peaked way back around 1998.
For years, some of us have dared write that worldwide HIV and AIDS figures have been grossly exaggerated; that we were being lied to by just about everybody, including — or especially — the UNAIDS program and the World Health Organization.
For example, pious Peter Piot, executive director of the UNAIDS program since its founding, in 2004 bemoaned that “Projections now suggest that some countries in sub-Saharan African will face economic collapse unless they bring their epidemics under control.” (Emphasis added.) Obviously he knew whereof he spoke; he’d been using those exact words for at least five years.
Just last year, former President Bill Clinton told attendees at the International AIDS Conference: “It’s difficult to imagine how the world can grow unless we tackle AIDS.” Never mind that world population growth is fastest in areas hardest hit by AIDS.
In 1988, a high Ugandan official on ABC News’ Nightline said that within two years his nation will “be a desert.” Nightline’s reporter declared that by 2000 “50 million Africans may have died of AIDS.” Yet Uganda’s population has since increased by over a third and is among the fastest-growing in the world. As to the 50 million death figure, seven years after that prediction was to come to fruition, the worldwide AIDS estimate is just over half that.
Those who have criticized such gross exaggerations, as I did in my 1990 book The Myth of Heterosexual AIDS, were labeled liars ourselves, whackos, racists, and variety of other colorful epithets. Now I’m being told I should gloat; but personally I’m too busy shaking my head and wondering how despite our best efforts the AIDS alarmists were able to sustain their fiction for so long.
Naturally, those alarmists are now a bit defensive. …- http://tinyurl.com/ysehx9

Of course you are aware that the “Palestinians” have always refused to recognize the State of Israel and have rejected their own state over and over again. Both the good terrorists Fatah and the bad terrorists Hamas include in their charters the objective of destroying Israel. Israel DID offer them 95% of the West Bank and all of Gaza and a divided Jerusalem. more and more Israelis are amenable to such a state..

What planet is this half-wit on?she should maybe read some of her co-workers at Star,G&M once in a while.

A neat two-page, concise history of the facts including some perspective on several population exchanges and some interesting info on “Palestinians” and citizenship:
The government of Jordan granted Palestinian Arabs a form of citizenship, but kept them in refugee camps.

Via Israpundit, a lengthy entry on the myth of “moderate Islam”:
Who’s the Bigger Threat to America: The Dishonest Moderate Muslims or the Honest Jihadists?

Of course you are aware that the “Palestinians” have always refused to recognize the State of Israel and have rejected their own state over and over again.
