While CTV news prattles on upstairs, unwatched;
The IDF is now quite a bit more active on the ground the last 36 hours. Major pushes into South Lebanon have seen several thousand IDF soldiers push into southern Hezbollah occupied villages on an effective looking multi prong attack.
Fighting is fierce, the IDF led by special forces and Tzanhani troops (Paratroopers) have been buttressed by air support, and thousands of reserve units hammering Hezbollah positions with artillery fire that as seen on TV is fairly incessant.
Despite casualties, which are par for the course sadly in warfare the IDF has begun making major inroads and is pounding Hezbollah. IDF spokespeople announcing that the southern “security control zone” will be active by the end of the week. That’s pretty heavy duty gains, a testament to the need of employing adequate forces for any job. 10 terrorists killed in Baalbek by the IDF assault there, and now estimated in excess of 300 Hezbollah men have been taken out of the fighting. Some detail on the main prongs, and the Baalbek assault follow the map below. Godspeed to the IDF.
There’s more, including a map detailing the extent of the IDF ground assault – for those who can’t be bothered to suffer through yet another installment of Lisa LaFlamme’s professionally furrowed brow.

A couple of comments from Omar*s ITM site.
BEIRUT, Lebanon – Hezbollah politicians, while expressing reservations, have joined their critics in the government in agreeing to a peace package that includes strengthening an international force in south Lebanon and disarming the guerrillas, the government said.

yes, hezz talks tough. However, the wheels on their bus are starting to squeek quite loudly. Lebanese bloggers have reported that hezz fighters want to start firing missiles from the central district.

Yes, it couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of guys!
Speaking of the war and he even mentioned the ceasefire, Dan Rather, of all people, had a good interview on the subject and he actually played it straight.
He was trying and, surprisingly, his analysis was bang on.
It’s worth seeing if only for the shock value. Watch it on Fox News here.
BONUS: He had some pretty intelligent things to say about Cuba too in Part 2.
Kate, speaking of CTV news prattling on upstairs, unwatched, I’m reminded of a line from a recent David Warren column:
“Television, in my own received opinion, which exhibits my own class prejudice, is for people who don’t need to know, and don’t mind being manipulated.”
This may be of intertest.

Ahahahallah…
Red Crescent reports ;;;;
28 unverified…. Western MSM never saw more than 12.
The report even admits there were hezbollah rocket firing sites at/in Qana.
The Muslim Islamist terrorist propaganda machine spins like a wild banshee howling; aided and abetted by the willing tools of the MSM/left liberal/socialist/anarchists.

Islamic Red Cresent Now Admits Qana Death Toll Claims Inflated – Real Number is 28.
Fox News Channel 8:00 AM EDT segment
The Red Crescent, an Islamic relief group like the International Red Cross, now admits the casualty figures from the Israeli attack dirrfyrf against rocket-firing sites at Qana in Lebanon was 28, not the more than 70 as originally claimed. Even the number 28 is unverified, as Western news media never saw more than a dozen victims of the attack.

Here is the original press release from the Red Cross.
The date of release is 30 July, 2006.
The MSM refuses to cite/replay this press release. MSM refuses to update its messages.
Conclusion:
The MSM is aiding/abetting hezbollah, aka Muslim Islamist terrorists.

Geneva (ICRC) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is alarmed by the increasing number of civilian casualties resulting from the ongoing armed conflict.

Lebanon is becoming a very interesting theater for tedious unoriginal geo-political policies to play out. The latest fear mongering spin from the current affairs rumor teams, now centered in the security departments of coalition partners, is that Osama (isn’t he dead yet?) Bin Laden has sent his hell-spawn sons to Lebanon to rally and focus the Hezbollah resistance….and just guess where this heir apparent of the terror caliphate came from????…uh, you got it, IRAN….SO kids let’s review what we have in this startling unvarified MSM revelation planted in the major US/UK papers…we have Osama’s terror potency resurected after he was given toothless boogy man status while Iran was being slagged and readied for invasion on the Nuke justification… so now we have his son apparently taking the reins of the international Muslim terror caliphate…AND we have established (by MSM rumor) that he hangs out in IRAN!( which, surprise, surprise, is the evil nation we want to invade after Lebanon has been secured by the Israelies and given a US military base to supply “order” in the transition to a west-friendly democracy)..We now have established all the provocation we need for a US-Israeli or US-allied intervention in Lebanon and their evil Iran-Al Quada connections….and by logical extention, prefab justification for the invasion of Iran and a protracted Mid-east conflict as per the current US policy for the region…what was this unstated but obvious ( by actions) policy?
As this global-terrorism thing expanded from invading Afghanistan to Iraq to Lebanon and now apparently to Iran and Syria are in the cross hairs… it is clear the real agenda was to establish a permanent US military presence in the Middle east…probably as a neccessary alternative to Russia or China doing the same thing under the opportunities the endless confused politics/allignments and conflicts in the region afforded them.
Bottom line: as in all protracted military solutions, this one will suck up Billions of western coalition dollars and commit large amounts of finite resources and personel to maintain a fragile Gulf region peace obtained by occupation and training/outfitting Mid east police and milirary and their installed west friendly governments…in spite of all the spin about “spreading democracy” this is what the Mid-east US policy distills down to…1960s cold war era foreign policy of invading, overthrowing then occupying and installing friendly leaders…little has changed except the price tag.
I’m sorry, I wish I could have the blind faith my fellow conservatives seem to have in the military based solutions in mid-east foreign policy the pentagon-run US administration is implementing, but these constant 1950s-styled media planted “justifications” to manipulate public opinion into accepting a protracted mid east conflict which was originally sold as a short “shock and awe” preemptive intervention strike to remove a tyrant, is becoming harder and harder to swallow.
The history of mid east occupation by other imperialist governments ( France, Turkey, Britain) bear a trend that makes generational conflict a fact of occupying Muslim lands….and in the end puts the occupying nation’s goals no further ahead than when they initiated military intervention as a solution a foreign policy in the region.
I view western intervention initiatives in the mid east with the jaundiced eye of an over burdened tax payer and a jaded voter who has been lied to by some of the best public manipulators anywhere.
To me getting excited about middle-east conflicts is like getting excited about the fact there is weather…and that some are shocked the weather is constantly changable and unpredictable and are unsatisfied that we must live with it because there is little we can do to control it.
Controlling the political directions in the Middle east is like trying to control the weather…as France, Turkey or the UK who were there generations before the US.

Muslim Clerics in Canada
How Canadian Islamacists make hate comments
On Oct 23, 2004, Mohamed Elmasry, President of the Canadian Islamic Congress made the comments on the Michael Coren Live TV show, “all Israelis above the age of 18 are legitimate targets of attack”.
When asked whether “anyone over the age of 18 in Israel is a valid target,” Elmasry replied: “Anybody above 18 is part of the (Israeli) army.”
The show’s moderator followed with another question: “Anyone in Israel, irrespective of gender, over the age of 18 is a valid target?”
“Yes, I would say,” Elmasry responded. …-

For those like ET who just don’t seem to get it that Canada’s ME foreign policy today that has culminated from 40 years of the Liberal Social Engineering is having no effect on National Unity.
I just watched News Net where Tarek Fatah of the Muslim Canadian Congress outlined why he is now leaving the Congress. He has been a voice for the moderate muslims in Canada for something like five years and basically feels he can no longer withstand the lobby of the radical muslims in Canada – nevermind anywhere else. Just who do you suppose is going to step into this role now? The radicals have just landed a severe body blow to unity in Canada.
Get it people? The radical elements of Islam have just racked up a major victory in Canada. And yes – it does affect national unity. I am truly sorry to see it come to this.
I can understand his frustrations very well and I am a former United Church 2nd generation anglophone Canadian from Alberta. I also am coming to believe that we simply are not going to undo the past 40 years of Liberal Social Engineering. It has come down to the fact that the moderates, whoever/wherever they may be, must somehow come together or we are destined to become another EU-like country.
But what is becoming the risk of doing this? Literally, personal safety not to mention being pretty much being isolated by those who seem content to sit on the fence like nothing is wrong (read continue to support the left liberal/NDP nuancing) – or more seemingly to emulate the famous three monkeys and then vote Liberal/NDP when it is question time (read, the next election)
As I write, the government is meeting and expected to come out with guess what? More aid for Lebanon to appease the citizens-of-convenience lobby of the “ingrates” who have just been brought back from Lebanon. No sooner were many of them off the boat, then there they were – protesting in the streets of Montreal against us. Aided and supported of course by who else – the MSM.
And this doesn’t affect national unity, paricularly when a large voice in Quebec is also distancing itself from the governemnt in favor of the minority rule philosophy. Really.
The PM himself allowed Hachem and his family to return on his own personal aircraft from Cyprus. This guy will appear in court on Aug 15 (if he shows up after posting a $500 recognizance) charged on six counts of fraud – apparently about $70,000 in credit card fraud – along with a conspiracy charge. His wife speaks neither French nor English. He has a family of four and who knows what level of ESL will be required here. The history was known before the plane was boarded and the PM himself had the final say on who boarded.
There is little credibility anywhere it seems. It has literally become a free for all and when this happens – might is going to be right.
calgary clipper – I fail to see how my views have anything to do with the content of your post.
ET
Your post, your words – posted Aug 1/2:19 p.m. under the heading “We’re the Good Guys”
You wrote “I don’t see what the ME has to do with Canadian National Unity”
Right – the ME doesn’t have anything to do with national unity.
If you think, for a second, that Quebec would leave because of our Prime Minister’s policies on the ME – then, you know nothing about Quebec.
Quebec is a socialist state, which means that its citizens expect to be cared for, completely, by a Big Brother State. They, as individuals, contribute as little as possible – in money, in work, in effort. Did you know that Quebec has the largest black market economy in N. America.
Quebecers will also refuse to fight in wars – as they refused WWI, WWII and so on. Quite similar to France. They expect others, the anglophones, to do that dirty work.
Quebec is, via its threats of leaving, which are nothing more than extortion, economically and socially so entangled with the mainstream Canadian economy that it couldn’t leave even if it wanted. And I assure you – it won’t leave. Its elite are our bureaucrats – due to our false self-designation of Canada as bilingual. The Liberal gov’t set up Make Work enterprises all throughout Quebec; that’s where its people work. And, they are all heavily and thoroughly unionized.
This state socialist economy couldn’t last a week without the financial input of the Rest of Canada. Quebec, after all, ought to be a ‘Have’ province, rather than a ‘Have-Not’ province. But, its unionized work system, where no-one however incompetent and useless can be fired; its union benefits, its refusal to set up its own businesses and reliance on the federal gov’t to set up the businesses – means that Quebec can’t leave.
I personally think it would be good for both Canada and Quebec to separate – at least until Quebec matures, moves out of the home, gets its own job, and starts to be self-supporting. Then, we could talk about shared values and collaborative economic systems. But, as long as we must support Quebec – Quebec won’t grow up.
So, don’t worry. Quebecers can dance in the streets celebrating Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, bash the US and Bush, sneer at the rest of Canada, take anglophones to court for putting up English signs, refuse to allow children to learn English, encourage terrorists to come and live here, support those terrorists – Don’t worry; they’ll continue to do all this. And they won’t leave. Not with the home cooking the rest of Canada offers them.
I’m worrying. Who needs them?
I’ll probably miss le gross bier, Bra D’or (sp?) but my heart won’t miss the poutine 😉
ET,
Let me be just a little picky. My impression while in the volunteer RCN, is that about one third of the men or better had french accents and / or spoke french.
They all loved Canada as much as other members from across our country. I live in Lotus Land now, but was brought up a Montrealer.
Just my first hand personal experience ET. No big thing. More Quebecers are Canadians first and separatists later… Much later. = TG
