CONCERNS CONTINUE OVER CANADIAN GOVERNMENT/BOMBARDIER INVOLVEMENT IN CHINESE RAILWAY PROJECT INTO TIBET
    09 June 2005
OTTAWA As a result of the governments significant investment in Bombardier Inc., Stockwell Day, Official Opposition Foreign Affairs Critic will request at the next Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade meeting, that Canadian government and Bombardier officials testify in regard to the Chinese railway project into Tibet.
Concerns have been raised by various groups about the involvement of Bombardier in assisting the Chinese government with this railway through Tibet, said Day. It is only fitting that the Canadian government and those (Bombardier Inc.) that use its funding come and explain themselves before our committee.
The concerns have been made widely public as a result of Bombardiers involvement in the highly contentious plan to build a train service from central China through Tibet. The railway is seen as a threat by many, because it can effectively facilitate an influx of Chinese migrants and settlers to Tibet, which may threaten the survival of Tibetan culture.
