Robbing Papoose To Pay Paul’s Promise

I needed a p-word. Get over it. Via Dust My Broom; this quote from NDP aboriginal critic, Pat Martin from the Globe and Mail;

“I’ve gotten a very clear message from first nations leadership and from Liberal cabinet ministers that the money that was intended to be announced May 31 has been redirected to form part of the NDP budget. The government intends to pay for its commitments to the NDP with money that they had already committed to first nations,” he said. “If that’s the case, it’s even sleazier than I had ever imagined.”

I don’t know which is the bigger story here – the daily machinations of the Librano $pending $pree or Pat Martin’s undiagnosed attention deficit disorder.

  1. First Nations people fought, bled and died for this country. This is how the country repays them!

  2. and which wonderful benevolent big brother nanny state programs were cut?
….to make room for another wonderful benevolent big brother nanny state program.
    hmmm?

  3. Just what will Layton get for his efforts? Does Toronto need another bike path, or another Pride parade, or maybe a special job training plan for tenured teachers? What is there that the NDP wants, that the Liberals don’t already provide?

  4. THIS slap in the face to our first Nations People the very day after Paul Martin was making deals and getting photo ops with the First Nations People.
    They have no shame.
They must hope that the First Nations people don’t have internet and BLOGS or listen to any other media than CBC or Phil Fontaine.
A scandal that Jack Layton and his entire NDP caucus absolutely must stand up to and expose.

  5. Don’t forget . . the NDP is the sock puppet for organized labour . . most of the Lieberal/NDP $pending $pree will end up in the hands of Public Sector Unions, and via their dues, in the bank accounts of the Cdn Federation of Labour, with the NDP, of course, getting their kickback.
The Most Holier Than Thou Party cares not where the money comes from or how disgusting is the deal they have to make with the Fiberals, to get their paws on someone else’s money. They don’t care – as long as the Buzz Hargroves of the world get their cut.
This is just the NDP version of an AdScam kickback scheme . . . a little more sophisticated than the what the Lieberals can come up with, but then the NDP are more “intellectual” eh !!

  6. Everybody who knows an NDP member PLEASE contact them to come to their senses.
They are the accomplices in the continued rape and pillage of our country and our democracy.
Jack would probably clean up in Toronto right now if there was an election –

  7. Jim Prentice has been hammering at this file too. What possible justification, other than treason, could the NDP have for propping up this government?

  8. Somebody still doesn’t get it:
“And, yes, I too noticed that a lot more people were forced to quit under Mulroney than Chretien for ethical violations. You didn’t think I’d miss that, did you?” (Warren Kinsella)

  9. The NDP and the MSM are the only two things giving any credibility to the Liberals. It was the NDP offering the olive branch that made Canadians think they weren’t that bad. If the NDP were smart, (stop laughing!!) they would take this opportunity to dump the alliance. They have more than enough reasons to from the way the Libs have corrupted what was supposed to be a happy, sunshiny, save the country budget. This would be a huge blow to the Liberals both in internal morale and general support. I mean how bad could a party get if even the NDP can’t be hoodwinked by them anymore?
On a separate note, has anyone noticed a huge Liberal turn in CTV in the last few months? Like it was never great but they are sometimes even beating the CBC in unadulterated bias these days.

  10. Didn’t want to subscribe. What is the story? Has it been credibly confirmed?

  11. What our government has done to our aboriginals over the past hundred years is unacceptable. I find it interesting that so many Canadians were against the Republic of South Africa’s appartied system but what most don’t know is that apparthied was based on Canada’s reservation system. If South Africans can get rid of their system why are we still using ours? Mr. martin speaks with forked tongue, as do so many Liberals.

  12. What does the NDP want?
    National Socialism, as in:
National Socialist German Workers'(Arbeiter)Party, known as NSDAP; and,
Russian Social Democratic Labour Party, aka The Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

  13. I live in a native community. Many of the native people around here have always voted liberal. Their band leaders have always supported the liberals. It is no secret why that is. Sooner or later Sheila will be “allowed” to open the Native Affairs book. THEN we’ll see some FUNKING SLEAZE…

  14. Dustin: I can understand why the band leaders have always supported the Libranos, because they travel first class and wear expensive suits…. but why do your fellow band members drink the Liberal kool-aid?
All we hear is how badly Canada’s natives have it… and the Libranos have always been in power.
After a while, you’d think people would put two plus two together and stick it to the people who have been screwing them. Either that, or the natives don’t actually have it that bad and they’re just whining to get more… which would make them perfect Canadians.
Quebec has finally had enough of the Libranos… Are the natives next?

  15. I think they’d have to change the laws to open the Native Affairs books to Sheila Fraser, and it will probably never happen under the Liberals. If it ever did happen, though, and it would take her years to get through them, it would be too much for the media to compress into a few stories — but SLEAZE? I suspect it would make the sponsorship scandal look like small game…

  16. If you check the Elections Canada contributions site using search words involving Indians, Metis, you’ll discover these same leaders have a strong tendency to donate to the Liberals.
In what we’ve heard in Sponsorship testimony, the question about how these bands acquired the funds they donated is a legitimate one.

  17. I seem to vaguely recall when Sheila Fraser first tabled her report that she mentioned there were extreme problems within Indian Affairs but then nothing else.
Have no doubt that I was not at all surprised and even less so that this was not picked up on. I have personal knowledge of the workings and you are all right, adscam would look like PEANUTS compared to what has gone down in Indian Affairs. Even the most hardy of Ontarions in denial would keel over at the revelations.
I really doubt that there will ever be a serious inquiry into Indian Affairs because it would be deemed politically incorrect. Never mind the fact that most of the money is not going where it is supposed to and that the Indian people themselves should be outraged. Yes, of the 23 reservations in the area where I live they all vote LIEberal, always have and always will. Many are just told by the chief what to vote and they do so without any thought to any issues.
Reform for the aboriginal people of Canada is very important to me, have written to the CPC about it a few times. I really believe that the CPC should have a solid platform and campaign on this issue too.
