Anatomy Of A Sponsorship Contract

Angry ITGWN provides a breakdown of a sample sponsorship contract, from the Kroll Report;

Out of a total of $46.32 million:

  • $460,000, or 1%, went to sponsorship
  • $8.34 million, or 18%, went to actual work done
  • $26 million, or 56%, went to “unrelated or unknown parties”
  • $11.52 million, or 25%, was unspent or the invoices were not found
  • MK Braaten is liveblogging. Double funding of programs, double skimming of $$$! update And more here.

-The Finance department was responsible for 115.19 million of the sponsorship costs.

Apparently the Liberals are already issuing denials that more or less state that these latest revelations are just, you know, the word of an auditor.
Meanwhile over at Occam’s Carbuncle, Alan has been looking past the limitations of Paragraph K, and guess what?

…”the Gomery Commission terms of reference do not exactly call for the publication of a report. They call for the submission of two separate reports to Cabinet.”

    1. WOW ! ! ! a whole 18 % went to actual work done I am stunned, oh wait it reads that some double billing happened That’s better more money in the pockets of the Liberal party of Canada. I think we can take for granted that the 25 % that is recorded as unspent was the percentage that found it’s way into plain brown wrappers or was otherwise embezzled by the perpetrators of this scam. So that makes over 75 % of our money is being funnelled directly into the coffers of liberal friendly entities. People laugh at me when I say we should take the party to court, and maybe with all the bought judges they are right. We should just commit civil disobedience.

    2. Un-f’ing-believable!
MK Braaten’s right. You cannot open any of the presumably informative appendices from the CBC downloadable version of the Kroll report.
How clever… trying their best to bob and weave even up to the end…

    3. Moreover, both CBC’s and CTV’s websites have shamelessly attempted to bury the critical and heretofore “unproven” (to idiots) fact that at least $2,500,000 of taxpayers money was stolen by the Liberal party under sleepy and disingenuous “More money than expected went to sponsorship” headlines.
I have written them both scathing letters, and I expect to hear back as soon as the polar icecaps melt.
Another bombshell story buried, folks. The media are more than willing to act as pimps for the Liberals.
Everytime flipping time I think they’ve hit bottom on their biased reporting, they start digging anew.
      DAMN.

    4. Yeah. Nothing to see here people, move along.
They take Canadians for goddamn fools, and you know, maybe on the whole they’re right.
Bend over, and make sure to file your taxes on time.

    5. The KLA report excludes auditing of criminal activity, which pretty much rules out looking at the Liberal Party and those cash envelopes.
      KLA provides:
      1) lots of cash flow accounting to confirm the scope of the shell game.
      2) Donations to the Liberal party = $3/4M from the ad outfits plus another $1 3/4 M in payments alleged by Brault to benefit the party + unspecified sum in cash payments. (pgs. 37, 119)
      3) $.40 M of cheques Brault could have converted to cash and $.43 M pluridesign which for which there is no sign of work and almost $1 M to Renaud’s firms (pg. 119).

    6. Hard Right:
I realize that, but why aren’t we seeing headlines like:
Liberals May Have Taken as Much as $2.5 Million: Kroll
      or:
Confirmed: Liberal Party Stole Taxpayers Money.
      It just boggles the mind.

    7. Let me see!!..The pm was stumping a riding on the east coast this morning and tonight hes having dinner with the Queen in Edmonton..i wonder if he used one of those 100 million dollar jets that we paid for to go on a dinner date.

    8. Personally, I’m equally upset with the reports (as yet unconfirmed) that the participants at the Gomery inquiry (e.g. the Liberal Party of Canada) are having their tabs covered by tax dollars, and not at the expense of their clients. Or at the personal expense of the perpetrators.

    9. No matter how you look at it and what you dig up from the past, the same two words will always come up:
War and Money. Or what is known today as Freedom and Democracy. And when you ask yourself what had brought them down? How did they fall? Again another two words will keep flashing in front of your eyes: Greed and Power. Or what is known today as Economy and Politics.

    10. Amazing that the news about the Libs slush fund $1 million) to fight and discredit news from the Gomery comm. didn’t come out prior to the byelection.
Well, I guess I am not surprised, just stick a fork in my eye so the pain of knowing that millions of Canadians will still vote for that piece of CRAP CALLED LIBERAL will ease.

    11. Is that it for the Kroll report? I know $350 million is a lot worse than $250 million but I don’t think this will be the tipping point for voters. Does anyone know if there’s more to come from the accountants? I thought they were going to point fingers…

    12. See, they won in NFLD, I think with 50% of the vote. People don’t care about corruption. Canadians enjoy corruption, it makes us feel superior to the politicians. Since it looks like they’re going to get away with Gomery, I wonder how much they’ll steal next time. I guess steal is the wrong term, many Canadians think what they did was ok or at least deserving of nothing more than a stern glance in their direction. That’s the Canadian way of punishment–shake your finger at them…

    13. CTV reporting no evidence that any of the money ended it up in the hands of politicians, but just before that reported 2.5 mil went to the Librano party….. ain’t that a contradiction if I’ve ever seen one.

    14. Your right you can’t call it stealing, that would be what ordinary crooks do. Lets gust call it “LIBERALING”.
The governing party in Canada was today accused of LIBERALING approx $2Million.
Makes you feel warm, fuzzy and VIOLATED doesn’t it.

    15. Brian, if that is the case, I feel very sorry for all Canadians right now. Best of luck to you in the next election, if and when you ever have one.

    16. Thanks Tom
Perhaps I’m being a little hard on my fellow countrymen but I don’t understand why the Liberals aren’t at about 2% in the polls.Interesting article in the Toronto Star today that suggested if you breakdown recent polls, the Liberals actually gain most of their support from “upper class” Canadians–the $100k a yr+ earners. Something like 48% of those people support them, much, mucher higher than any other income group. I’ll stand to be corrected but if you read between the lines in some of the newspaper reports, it doesn’t look like the accounting report is going to be pointing any fingers, which to me, will allow the Liberals off the hook

    17. Gomery won’t turn the worm that’s the electorate. Nfld just proved that. But Quebec will break the back of Liberal dominance there, leaving a lot of key folks out of work. The west is outraged for the most part. But what is stirring people in a big way is SSM. And you can laugh if you want, but if that’s what it takes to bring down the Liberals, who cares? All denominations are mobilizing their forces and resources and throwing themselves into this in a big way. It can’t be underestimated. BTW, did anybody see AC’s blog today? Where did that story disappear to? Nothing about lawsuits against AC or NP either, from what I could see.

    18. Ya may be right Iron Lady, one can only hope, but the level of frustration here and in Quebec is huge. This isn’t good for the future of the nation, and IMHO if the election in Lab. is an indication of what’s to come, I don’t want any part of this either.
If there is that much of a separation in beliefs and ideologies, one has to ask if it’s salvageable.
This isn’t what my forefathers died for. They died taking down a dictatorship and socialist state so we could eventually live in one? I think not.

    19. Carefull- the RCMP might start ‘investigating’ this one, ( and Ya know what happens then- doncha:
Their report is published in the year 2015).

    20. The Tories did better in Nfld than before, the NDP worse, so that’s a glimmer of hope. It was Liberal anyway, but the guy died last year. We were probably expecting too much. Another thing that might do the Librano$ in is the fact that they refused to call an Inquiry into Air India. No closure for the victims’ families, even though there is compelling evidence the judge overlooked, tossed or deemed irrelevant that now looks as though it should be have presented. Lots of hard feelings against the Libs because of it. And this tape of Grewal and Murphy, that’ll hopefully be presented. I liked Kate’s idea of the Hidden Agenda Tour. That would get everybody’s attention. The Tories need a young, bright ad firm this time round. I’m so tired of hearing people criticise Harper, I’m beginning to think I’m nuts because I like him. If there was even a hint that the Tories were going to dump him, Martin would call an election right away. The NDP won’t prop up this government forever, either. The smoking gun that was to come from Kroll did not materialize in any major way because they couldn’t track a lot of the cheques, or something. It is to weep.

    21. Kroll isn’t done yet, and besides, Parliament has a week off. The heat will be cranked up again next week.
The byelection wasn’t going to go Conservative anyway. Liberal for all but 4 years since Nwfd entererd Confederation.

    22. or even before they *entered*.
Anyone see the Anatomy of a Revolution piece on CBC? Startling similarities between Ukranian and Canadian political events. Is this a cry for help from the Mothercorp? 🙂

    23. Still pretty bloody sad though isn’t it? That the good (?) people of Labrador could vote in these scoundrels for one more feeding at the trough.
IRON LADY: thanks for the info. I’m a little worried though…
Are you saying that the fearsome company that brought down the internecine dealings of Enron, accurately traced billions in illicit bribes around the world in the UN Oil for Food and have a reputation as the toughest of the tough in auditing couldn’t bring down a bunch of two-bit Liberal gangsters?
Isn’t missing millions of dollars with no trail, obviously deceptive financial practices and not being able to track cheques a de facto admission of theft?
And why wasn’t Corriveau forced to hand over his papers? How can he sit back and refuse to comply with an investigation of this magnitude and why isn’t anyone even wondering why he hasn’t complied? I’ll tell you if Revenue Canada wanted to audit me I’d be hauled off to jail if I couldn’t come up with my financials for at last the past 7 years. WTF is going on? Have these guys been effectively neutered with another razor thin official mandate?
Sorry for the rant, but the more I think about this the angrier I get.

    24. Wanna know how they get away with it? CTV news tonight is a prime example. Not only do they lowball the actual dollar amount, the last line the viewers are left with is “at no time do they point to money ending up in politicians pockets”.
Did anyone just hear the bar getting lowered a bit more?

    25. A. Cooper,
If the bar’s already on the ground, does it make a sound?
I heard the CTV thing, and it was a total water down of the events. The propaganda machine is running at full steam(CSL) ahead.
Question, is there much difference between this and the Nazi propadanda machine?
      http://tinyurl.com/dywvb
I figured with all the discussions about Librano parallels in scimming cash, why not parallels in ideologies.

    26. True, the bar can’t get much lower. It astounds me that “no politician *personally* benefitted” is being offered as ethical standards to behold.
There are more differences than similarities between the Nazi propaganda machine and today’s MSM. I agree some of the same methods are still in use, but this is a worldwide phenomena, not limited to Canadian media.

    27. Rob:
The difference between the Nazi propaganda machine and MSM is the former would simply shoot you if you disagreed.
The latter will just threaten people like Andrew Coyne with legal suits to silence them. Which is somewhat cleaner with no bodies to dispose. Both accomplish the same end; of endlessly churning out the same dogmatic propaganda until one is stultified into thinking that the drivel emanating from them is authoritative and conclusive.
The object now of course, is for Liberaldom to remain in power. Andrew Coyne was just getting a little too damn close for comfort; ie closing in for the journalistic kill. The “Martin Daemmerung” was just too close; so they toss out a red herring to shut his criticism down.
Pretty hard to libel/slander someone when you are caught on tape fishing for “plausible deniability” of patronage appointments. Being caught red handed at political bastardization of the laws against patronage appointments for consideration is simply skating to the edge of the abyss and looking over without jumping.
I’m sure the Canadian public is duly impressed by this chicanery; not to mention the mounting revelations of graft, greed, stupidity. As in the National Post, we now live in a thugocracy. Word of counsel, just don’t flinch for these bastards until the government has breathed its last. The Philistines of Parliament have merely delayed their day of dismissal which they have so “richly” earned.

    28. Here’s my email to Gomery 😉 If I actually get a copy, Kate, I’ll send it to you.
I have been following the Gomery Commission with great interest and would be interested in receiving a .pdf copy of the Kroll Report. I see that it is on the CBC site, but pieces of it won’t download.
Could you please send me a .pdf copy of the report as soon as possible.
      Thank you.

    29. One question:
If it has been shown that $2,500,000 (that we know of) disappeared into the coffers of the Liberal party of Canada, how in the name of all that is holy can the media OR ANYONE suggest that not one politician benefitted?
In fact, ALL LIBERAL POLITICIANS BENEFITTED from this monumental fraud. EVERY DAMN ONE OF THEM. Through free and “paid” party advertising, paid-for busses and plane flights, “free” lawn signs and election collateral materials, under the table cash “donations”, hordes of not-so-pro bono professional workers and judges-in-waiting behind the scenes, and all the cashola they required to grease whatever wheels needed to be greased.
Although the most egregious behaviour occurred in Quebec, we can assume that it happened across Canada. Even if it did not, the fact that the Liberal party in Quebec was able to (illegally) pay its own way meant that funds didn’t have to be redistributed from other parts of the country to prop them up.
Now the media has informed us that this money went missing, directed and controlled by Liberal politicos and fixers, but it just “disappeared”. And Canadians sit there like sheep and say, “Oh well, can’t be helped…”
      What a fucking disaster.

    30. John Duffy and CTV are pathetic and they are puposefully misleading the people of Canada to hide the biggest scandal in Canadian history.
I almost puked when I heard that last closing line of last nights news. “No money was proven to go to any politicians.”
That sounds like “no money went to politicians”
They didn’t say that due to the strict and narrow limit of the investigation imposed on it by liberal politicians the investigators are not allowed to explain which liberal polititicians pocketed the stolen money traced to them.
