A 23 year old university drop-out (when he was 18) has designed a tube to collect the plastic garbage from our oceans almost entirely over the next 5 years. His prototype is just entering the ocean for some initial testing. The plastic will be recycled into things that remind us not to dump plastic in the ocean (symbolic).
He has an interesting philosophy. Most people start at the bottom of a large and complex problem and never really solve it. He starts at the top. How do we solve this problem 100%? Then he designs a solution. He raised $2.2 in crowd-funding initially but now has more serious sponsorship money to complete the project.
Why not use paper bags? Made from a renewable resource. Biodegradable. Environmentally friendly.

For example, the driver of the van which just ran down 29 people, killing 10 and putting 19 in the hospital and changing their lives forever.
