    1. It’s about time that the U of A had an engineering dean who isn’t automatically politically correct.

    1. Wow. Very fascinating. Too many people do not make the distinction between “hating Muslims”, and basically having concerns about the system of belief and the activists pushing the ideology, sometimes using violence.

  1. Anyone else here a little tired of politicians, and others, coming out after disasters/terrorist attacks etc with the same old phrase,”our hearts and prayers are with the victim’s and their families”? Lets can that one, refresh with a little more thought put into it.
The longer the investigation into the terrorist type murders in Toronto yesterday takes to report the facts on, as to the perpetrator, the more speculation.

    1. Liz J. These terrorists should be executed within 12 months of conviction as a deterrent to others. Currently there are no repercussions to their actions.

    2. In yesterday’s politician statements, I was looking for expressions of concern to be at least as compassionate and concerned as those issued in the phony hijab incident. I don’t think Trudeau’s was. Then again he would not have written it himself.

    3. At least I don’t think any of the politicians who can’t get to a microphone fast enough repeated the nonsense phrase “That’s not who we are.”

  2. A 23 year old university drop-out (when he was 18) has designed a tube to collect the plastic garbage from our oceans almost entirely over the next 5 years. His prototype is just entering the ocean for some initial testing. The plastic will be recycled into things that remind us not to dump plastic in the ocean (symbolic).

He has an interesting philosophy. Most people start at the bottom of a large and complex problem and never really solve it. He starts at the top. How do we solve this problem 100%? Then he designs a solution. He raised $2.2 in crowd-funding initially but now has more serious sponsorship money to complete the project.

    1. Why not use paper bags? Made from a renewable resource. Biodegradable. Environmentally friendly.

Someone smarter than I must know why not.

      1. Paper bags are made from trees. Don’t you remember the enviro-cry from years ago? “Save a tree – use plastic!”

    2. Could his process be adapted to clean up dilbit in case of an oil spill? That would be a breakthrough also. I hope he gets rich for being so clever.

    3. I’m curious about something…
Why are there no actual pictures of this so-called Great Pacific Garbage Patch?

      1. Because it doesn’t really exist(like Global Warming). There are seaweed clusters floating in the ocean that contain plastic. In some cases a lot of it. But there is no Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

    1. What would we do without experts? I would not have known that vehicular attacks are a trend without our Canadian intelligence agents to inform me.

  4. The State should never have the right to execute it’s citizens.
Juries make mistakes as do judges. Witness’s lie and sometimes recant. Police have agendas.
The system is rife with pitfalls.
    The State cannot be trusted.
As despicable as it may seem it is better to have convicted murderers locked up at great cost to taxpayers than for the State to execute one innocent person.
Your life is your highest value and the State should not ever be given the power to take it.

    1. well ab, sadly there have been posts here @ sda by hard core conservatists claiming they tolerate the clear likelihood that *some* innocents will get the needle, in order to make sure the bernardo types do also.
I posed the Q, what if THEY were the said innocence, fine with them came the insincere reply.

whenever a new forensic tool hits the streets, huge numbers of ‘guilty’ are found to be completely innocent. aka DNA.
but in US of A for instance, agenda trumps the truth E-V-E-R-Y time.

it’s a bloodlust, a visceral desire for revenge and to kill kill kill. and state sponsored. Chirer is notorious for selectively executing followers of falun gong who meet organ donor requirements. anyone in favour of the death penalty is a big fan of tyranny and the death cult.

    2. @ABTrapper
Are you willing to concede that sometimes the guilt is so obvious that it can’t be a “mistake” by the jury or the judge? For example, the driver of the van which just ran down 29 people, killing 10 and putting 19 in the hospital and changing their lives forever. Or the mother who straps her 3 small children in the car and rolls it into the lake. Do you really advocate keeping people alive who, for what ever reason (and who cares what it was), are so obviously guilty of such heinous crimes?

Truly, I can not understand people such as yourself.

      1. yes mr michigan, I do and have long conceded that there are such obvious guilty you cite. the severe problem is the same death penalty for the glaringly obvious is ALSO used to off those found guilty thru a huge amount but incorrect circumstantial evidence. or cant afford a decent lawyer, like:
        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aileen_Wuornos
who according to a documentary on the case pleaded guilty on the advice of said lawyer given the ‘tradition’ of life sentence in exchange for said plea. except the dolt failed to lock in the plea agreement. oopsie !!
bottom line is the death penalty is way way too big a net:
https://www.statisticbrain.com/death-penalty-statistics/ and needs some ‘fine tuning’.
iow, is it YOUR assertion that e-v-e-r-y one of the 3000+ presently on death row is irrefutably guilty guilty guilty? hmmm?
are you having a problem ‘understanding’ that? hmmm?

        1. According to my very excellent anti-virus/anti-malicious software, the “death-penalty-statistics” website is a dangerous site. So, can’t follow up your comment except you might want to visit this site to see the evil that lives in the world.

  5. Whoo hoo. Nuke em all in, GOP, by midterms. Oh yeah, push that court to the right.

“Trump poised for major makeover of liberal 9th Circuit court.”

The stakes are sky high because of the size, caseload and clout of the court. If Trump is successful in getting young, ideologically conservative nominees through the confirmation process, he could significantly alter the court’s DNA for decades to come. ”

“Adding seven conservatives to the court would very much affect its ideological balance,” Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the UC Berkeley School of Law, told Fox News. “It would push the court much further to the right.”

If Trump wants to take advantage of this opportunity, he’ll have to act soon. So far, he’s only made two nominations.”

Critics have slammed the 9th for being too big, too liberal and too slow at resolving cases. They’ve also mocked it mercilessly, calling it the “Nutty 9th” or the “9th Circus,” in part because many of its rulings have been overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. This includes an infamous 2002 ruling that the Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional because of its use of the phrase “under God.” The court over the years also has knocked down state bans on assisted suicide and ruled that no American has the constitutional right to own a gun.”

Between 2010-2015, the Supreme Court reversed about 70 percent of the total cases before it — the 9th Circuit’s reversal rate was higher at 79 percent, though the highest in the nation was the 6th Circuit, which covers Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee and Kentucky and clocked in at 87 percent.”

  6. Letter from a small business owner on the cost of climate change

Robert Bernie · Owner at Bernies auto
I understand that climate change is a normal accurance , it will always change, but our government seems to think it can change that with stealing money from their citizens , i have run a small busness for over 35 years, the last 3 months i paid over $550 in carbon levy, the average family is now scared of our government and are trying to save money,,,what does that mean,,,,nobody is spending money at small busness,,,,and nobody is helping or listening to small business, we get no carbon refund, as i watch other small businesses one by one close their doors, where and how do i generate that kind of income now ????? Please people lets rethink this, what are we really accomplishing here, nothing more than another tax grab !! I will try my hardest to pay up but it won’t last, the writing is on the wall..we need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. That letter certainly hits home. We need more people to be aware of what is happening to small businesses. We also need people to be aware of the garbage the left is spewing about global warming. Greens are carrying on about the cost of natural disasters — scaring people into thinking that many naturally occurring events, like hurricanes and floods are attributable to the “global warming” which has not actually happened yet and which is not likely to happen soon. People are naive and leftists know how to manipulate them.

  7. VDH asks how far will the left go to put Trump’s head on the chopping vote and answers they will never stop until they permanently regain power, fusing that with their party once and for all. VDH asks why they would take that risk, appealing to what’s left of their mainstream elements, and answers his own question: the shrill left demands it, imagining therefore believing Trump “deserves” whatever than can plan, fantasize or otherwise concoct.

“When legal bloodhounds and baying critics fail to take out Trump, what’s next? The Resistance wants Trump’s head — on the chopping block.”

Each cycle of hysteria demands another, as the race to the bottom has descended into which celebrity or politician can discover the most provocative — or crude — Trump expletive. “S***” and “f***” are now the ordinary vocabulary of angry Democratic politicos and officeholders. Are we reaching a point in the so-far-failed Resistance where little is left except abject violence in the manner of the Roman or French Revolution? The problem for Trump’s pop-culture foes is not whether to imagine or advocate killing the president. That’s a given. They just need to agree on the means of doing so: decapitation (Kathy Griffin), incineration (David Crosby), stabbing (the Shakespeare in the Park troupe), shooting (Snoop Dogg), explosives (Madonna), old-fashion, Lincoln-style assassination (Johnny Depp), death by elevator (Kamala Harris), hanging (a CSU professor), or simple generic assassination (a Missouri state legislator).”

The danger to the country this time around is that the Left has so destroyed the old protocols of the opposition party that it will be hard to resurrect them when progressives return to power.”

We are entering revolutionary times. The law is no longer equally applied. The media are the ministry of truth. The Democratic party is a revolutionary force. And it is all getting scary.”
