Posting has been slow as we’ve been fighting some stubborn security issues. Lance is taking a deep dive into the problem, but should that fail, we’ll be forced into an upgrade of our security support (again). If it comes to that, I may hold a mini-fundraiser to cover the costs. Many thanks to the readers who donate to SDA around the year – your support is very much appreciated!
Sept 7 Update: I did bite the bullet and have purchased a higher level of security monitoring and support. With luck, the problems we’ve been battling for the past few weeks will soon be resolved.
Many thanks to everyone who stepped up with donations. As you know, there are no ad links here, no envelopes of cash from political operatives, and no paywall subscriptions – nor will there be any. (Most of the book ads have long ago expired, I leave them up to support the authors). The blog is a volunteer effort, supported only by readers who drop a few bucks in the tip jar.
In a few instances my “thank you” notes bounce back (especially to those using gmail), so if you haven’t received one, let me thank you again here!

Sorry to hear about your security issue. I checked the number of hops you have with tracert and it was always >20. Too many!
Try https://www.cloudflare.com/. They provide pretty good security. Hackers can’t fine their customers’ servers.
God bless!
CloudFlare, like just about any large cloud provider, is all-in on the Ctrl-Left’s agenda. The server is hosted somewhere the Canadian government can’t execute a takedown notice.
These IT guys just keep making things more and more complicated and expensive. It’s almost as if they want to destroy small businesses and blogs.
When I was forced to migrate from Movable Type to WordPress, it did improve the functionality of the blog … but with it has come a number of security intrusions, and a lot more behind the scenes maintenance by both us and my hosting company.
Thank you Kate for this blog!
WordPress is bloody infamous for being chock-full of ridiculous security holes, but there aren’t a lot of good alternatives if you don’t have dedicated, non-ideological tech support. I’ve been doinking around with static site generators lately, specifically Hugo. Pair that with a comment plugin and a comment server you host yourself and you’re independent of any provider’s whims, but it’s non-trivial to set up.
For me, Google is still putting up a list of old pages or weird things. It’s been doing it for a while. I don’t know if it’s related.
Same here. Google takes me to an Indonesian casino.
Or just long strings of foreign text.
For us true paleo-conservatives, is there an address where we can send a check? If there is can you deal with an American check? Do I have to spell it cheque?
Keep up the good work Kate. Don’t let the ba$tards wear you down. Eventually all this will probably vanish but trying is very important. Many people rely on your site, not only to vent, which I do a lot of. THANKS.
Thank you Kate and Lance. I’m certain you didn’t start this blog to become malware sleuths.
Kate
I tried several times to donate $50. Filled in all required boxes, then received security code, hit donate, and all my info got wiped out. Tried 3 times w no luck. Help
