We don’t need no giant fans.

As of 31 July, Alberta has already experienced a record 41 hours of wholesale electricity prices at $0 per megawatt hour (MW/h), according to a National Energy Board press release.

The record number of $0 hour occurrences in 2017 coincides with higher than usual electricity imports from British Columbia during the month of June, 2017.

Maybe we should close down those coal plants more quickly.

  1. Wind power generates the most electricity when demand is low. I wonder how much wind energy is created during stalled weather conditions – heat waves or extended -40 degree weather?
Heh. catpcha is being a smart alec again: “Grant Extra”. Perfect for a wind power story.

  2. It’s not about the end users and the best deal when your are a moronic brain dead Liberal or NDPee, it is about the idiotology of the left. Hugo did it, it must work! Think of the NDPee fools in your small towns, are any of them employing anyone? Do they own much, usually no, they are the dullards of society, unfortunately through Eds short sightedness us Albertans have been cursed with these morons running the treasury. Joe the dopey treasurer and “Rach” warrior princess have not a clue.

  3. Odd how the oligopoly lets that play out. They were usually more likely to take turns shutting down a plant for “maintenance” to bid up the price. In case anyone is curious, there is no such thing as a free market in electricity. It is always rigged. Alberta has a free market in electricity, I’m guessing, because Ralph Klein owed favours to the Southern family.

  4. So, which “green energy” companies are going to benefit from this? In Ontario I know it was Samsung,so who are the lucky guys in Alberta?
And how are they going to get the benefits to the politicians who support them?

The auction process is on-going. It’s pretty much all foreign companies (Asian and European), though, I’m sure they’ll throw some bones at Canadian entities here and there. The entire thing is a total farce.
