  1. The Star and Globe are only there for comedy. No one could be ass stupid as their urinalists and make a living in this world unless it is for comedy. Bill Maher?

  2. In the column the author flip flops – damning the right and the tea party and S&P then essentially agreeing with them. There’s a message in that: even many on the left know that the dems and particularly Obama are wrong in this issue. They just can come out and admit it -yet. Obamas speech last night and the continuing rhetoric of denial in the face of mounting evidence will change that denial position in the coming months – especially if the jobs numbers stay high…

  3. Reading this nonsense made me chuckled…Reading the majority of comments following; comments whom TO Star readers made; made me ill to my stomach.
The good news is that most of these imbeciles are grouped together in large urban areas; the coming “purge” will be that much easier.

  4. There has to be a lot of them secretly happy about that downgrade – it enables them to generate a lot of fog about tea partiers and the downgrade, etc., while the ugly real numbers stare them in the face.

  5. I read a book a while back about the Nortel fiasco. The Star “business writers” kept pitching the stock, even after people noticed the fundamentals were suspect and the price began to drop. See, it was Canadian and it was our duty.
Why take financial advice from an outfit that hates profit and enterprise?

  6. For the left it’s always about low taxes, and the Bush tax cuts in particular.
But how many of them realize that govt receipts rose after Bush cut taxes, and that his deficit was reduced by two-thirds in his last year?

  7. The lefies always recite how the top 1% has 25% of the wealth, 20% of the income but avoid telling that the top 5% pays 40% of the income taxes and the lowest 50% pays nothing.
I recall a while back that here in Kanukistan that most of the wealth and income was in the hands of the Middle Class….10 guys with houses = 1 millionaire……..
That most of the Upper Class wealth was in vague, volatile, illiquid assets….which evaporated in the face of imminent increased taxation….paper tigers….

  8. From the article, this howler: “In S&P’s view, the intransigence of hard-right U.S. deficit hawks, notably the so-called Tea Partiers, is highly relevant in determining a nation’s ability or willingness to honour its debt obligations.”
Yes, the reason S&P downgraded the USA was mean people who wanted Barry to stop borrowing -more- money and start paying off what has already been borrowed.
This guy is impossible to lampoon. I can’t come up with anything dumber that that on the spur of the moment. Other than the Star PAYING this schmuck to write that in a business column. The Star’s shareholders should riot at the next meeting, you ask me.

  9. So my problem is that I don’t know what he is opining on and what he is reporting as being a fact.
Have S&P actually come out and said that “the intransigence of hard-right U.S. deficit hawks, notably the so-called Tea Partiers, is highly relevant in determining a nation’s ability or willingness to honour its debt obligations” or is that what he wishes their sound bite would be? I think is is just wishes.
And this behaviour is an example of what S&P was referring to as the inability of the decision makers to make policy. When he says (and by extension the Dems say) “it is the tea party’s fault” he is not providing leadership. He contributes to the malaise that S&P is pointing at! Fan the flames guys, fan those flames.

  10. Simpsons Quote
Homer, Otto and Chief Wiggum are in a large hole that they have dug themselves too large to climb out of.
Otto: How we gonna get outta here?
Homer: We’ll dig our way out!
Wiggum: No no dig up stupid!

  11. Please don’t look!
    Some bloody news:

Joshua Seto, 27, and his fiancee, Cara Christopher, walked over to a Fry’s Food Store for refreshments, he tried securing her pink handgun in the front waistband of his pants.
The gun fired, striking Seto’s penis.
“He is still conscious, there is just a lot of blood,” she told 9-1-1 operators and dispatchers.
One operator told her to apply direct pressure to the wound with a dry towel or T-shirt, but to avoid looking at the wound.
“I did look at it,” she said. “It’s pretty bad.”

We should ban looking and handguns..
