Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Hugh Hewitt, along with Denis Prager are two of my favorite conservative radio hosts.
David Frum is a fool and to tangle with either of them is at your own peril, as their logic is generally irrefutable.
We’ve got Roy Green and John Gormley, but for the most part, I have to confess that I find American conservative radio far more engaging.
Frum is a fool to believe that the Republican party will benefit by becoming part of the soft, squishy middle that is neither fish nor fowl.
great example as to why I never listen to Quack Radio, left nor right!!!!!!
I really cannot understand what Frum is up to. Hewitt has a good point – if Frum is gonna say things like that, you’d think he’d have at least one example to cite. Hewitt is correct that those items are extremely misleading.
Anyway, I do try to avoid news which involves journalists talking about each other, although in this case I found it interesting.
Do these people take stupid pills instead of vitamins in the morning???
Proud of what? A thin skinned guy who can’t take a light joke?
Hey, Sea Salt. How about I impugn your integrity before many thousands of people?
As a lawyer and a political commentator, Mr. Hewitt’s integrity is of paramount importance – it’s the basis of both professions.
Once that integrity is damaged – even as a ‘light joke’ – it is much more difficult to repair. Both then slandering the messenger rather than debating the message is pretty much stock in trade for those who swing left.
And while Mr. Frum would protest and say he is merely a pragmatic conservative, he and Charles Johnston (Little Green Footballs) are clearly veering into the left hand lane.
Sea Salt,
You beat your wife don’t you?
Just kiddin’
Asshat!
Generally 3rd party candidates bleed support from the republicans….much like the Reform/Conservative fiasco in Canada….
But this is different….
These 3rd party types/rogues are much like their icon Palin…..ignore her at your peril.
The tea-party crowd not only reject Obama/Dems but also the tendency for Republicans to be RINOs. In short Tea-partiers are disgruntled Dems, disgruntled GOP and as well as the pivital independants. The tea-party movement is misunderstood by both left and right as GOP supporters…..wrong……they are just the silent majority speaking up….Democrats pretend to ignore them but take them more seriously than the GOP.
Interesting times indeed…..
Barbara is spinning in her grave.
As for David, “The Stupid, it BURNS!”
Frum’s a Republican elitist. They’re almost as nauseating as Democrats and it’s often difficult to tell them apart.
There are STRONG parallels with what’s going on in Canada. Frum is like Joe Clark, thinking that all conservatives will be loyal to the Tories, no matter how much he and his apparatchiks betray conservative principles.
Furthermore, I think Harper et co. kind of have the same problem now. Perhaps we have no one else to vote for but I bet there are lots of folks like me who won’t be contributing even one cent until the Conservatives start acting like conservatives!

David Frum seems to prefer to be the one vaguely conservative talking head tolerated in the chattering classes, rather than seeing a true conservative counter-revolution take hold.
I guess he’s found a niche that suits his elitist pedigree but doesn’t contradict his core values.
Might as well be a liberal if you’re going to pay that much attention to what liberals think of you.
Personally, I love it when a journalist forces someone to answer a question. Bravo Hewitt.
Frum? I think he’s an idiot. Pretty much always has been.
I have listened to Hugh Hewitt for 2 years every day (podcast-which he provided free of charge until Sep 30 this year- I gladly pay the subscription fee now). He is an incredibly accomplished lawyer (still practises), journalist, author, principled conservative, loyal Republican, hosts a most informative daily talk show, with many guests of all (including Liberal) points of view. He is a very generous human, and he has a great sense of humour. His conservative bona fides are rock solid. He is usually very even tempered so for him to get this riled up is quite something. I know I sound like I’m gushing but I have listened to talk radio for many years and HH is the best. It seems like David Frum is desperately trying to stay relevant and has taken some silly positions which are getting harder and harder to maintain. He has a good mind and I think he means well in trying to build this big tent thing, but he’s being just as intolerant as he’s accusing others of being-he’s fomenting dissention and not getting on with his stated purpose of developing conservative ideas for today’s audiences and promoting them more broadly.
Barbara Frum?
when she passed away from keukemia as I recollect, it was said her interviews with Ottawa bigwigs had an edge because she knew she was sick and had nothing to lose.
the lady had a heart. I remember once she did a story in some gawdforsaken native reservation about the deplorable health ‘clinc’. bawling her eyes out. on camera. she had a heart and wore it one her sleeve and impressed me with her incisiveness and humanity.
I don’t follow the son’s activities.
Unless the Republicans find a way to ditch the David Frums in their ranks, it will come to nothing as conservatives either create another party or rally behind more conservative or libertarian candidates, like Ron Paul. The Republicans will not win by playing the middle.
If you want to be the token conservative writer invited to all the right parties, you make the necessary adjustments.
Frum was a new democrat when he was young then during the Reagan era became a neo con when it was popular to the point of being one of it’s archist voices. Then post Obama he became a Rockefeller RINO along the same lines as David Brooks. Looks like his philosophy changes with the political currents.
Momathome: my thoughts exactly. Hewitt and Dennis miller and bob mccown are my Three must listen to podcasts.
> I really cannot understand what Frum is up to.
That’s okay, it’s pretty obvious that Frum doesn’t understand what he’s up to, either.

I’m old enough to remember Barbara but wasn’t old enough to appreciate her. Hard to believe something good came out of the CBC.
Sorry for the link but since we mentioned Barbara Frum, I had to do a search on YouTube. Here’s a brief interview with Margaret Thatcher.

Two great women. I hope I live long enough to see such a leader as Thatcher again.
Frum is one of those “progressive” conservatives. ‘Nuff said.
Love it when conservative dickwads turn on each other!
HH:(Mark Levin)is an extraordinary intellect.
FRUM: …I wouldn’t go that far…
HH:…why do you slander Mark Levin?
FUM:…I just said I wouldn’t go that far…
HH:…are you a lwayer, DavidFrum?
FRUM: …no…
HH:…then on what basis fo you get off and attack Levin’s legal credentials then?
BecauseFrum won’t go as far to say that Levin has an extaordinary intellect, Hewitt accuses him of slander and attacking Levin’s legal credentials.
Disgraceful intellectual dishonesty and McCarthy-ite hectoring wrapped up with a big bow for every reason-based human to reject.
And Kate posts it here proudly as though it’s supposed to…prove…something…

Speaking of dickheads, go down one thread and give us your “expert opinion” of a real dickhead, Jeh Custer, who is obviously one of your gang.

That’s a letter-perfect comment Sgt Lejaune.
Frum has also defended his former prof at Harvard, Cass Sunstein, the regulatory czar, who is alleged to be an expert on cost-benefit (for the state of course, not peons) analyses of regulation; who thinks America is too racist to become a socialist utopia; who believes animals should have lawyers and be able to sue!
Frums’s problem is that he truly believes that intellectuals make the best leaders which is 180 degrees off the truth.
I can’t see how anyone could read the transcript and not say, of David Frum, what a douche! How hard would it have been to simply apologize to Hewitt for obviously insulting him, especially if it was unintentional?
I wish Maher would invite Hewitt onto his show, mano a mano. The blood on the walls would be Maher’s.
