Long story short, Athena was Isaacman’s plan for cutting costs at NASA and restoring the agency’s “mission-first” culture — and getting us back to the Moon, at a price we can afford and before China does. Needless to say, Athena involved upsetting an awful lot of well-anchored apple carts and taking way some gold-plated iron rice bowls.

What purpose is there in going to the moon? It’s a massive expense and the US simply can’t afford it. They need to cut a $trillion from their spending to break even, and then they’ll still have a $40 trillion debt to pay off.

And perhaps also nearly as important… this was Elon Musk’s choice to head NASA, before he was kneecapped by the remnant deep-staters infecting the Trump Admin. Say what you want about him … but I trust Musk more than I trust the entrenched NASA bureaucrats who have been primarily focused on “proving” man-made global warming for the last 30 years.
