  1. I would seriously consider this (COL in Alabama is very attractive), but I’m stuck here in New Jersey for the foreseeable future where the COL in Jersey is very UNattractive. Paying about 14k in property taxes alone. Thanks Democrats!

    1. My property taxes are only $12k/yr here in CA. But I’ve lived in this home continuously since 1983 and am pegged to Prop. 13 tax caps. If not for that, I’d be paying $30k+/yr … just like most of my neighbors. Well, actually, I wouldn’t be paying that as I would have been chased OUT of this neighborhood long before $30k was being paid to my leftist County.

  2. That’s an interesting comparison.
In one place you have large mature trees on a large property and on the other the trees seem to be an anomaly, but you can hear your neighbor let one rip.

  3. The high cost of Canadian housing is 90% government hyper-regulation at all levels.

Supposedly conservative governments are not much better as even conservative politicians accept the advice of their “experts” and bureaucrats, who are 99% statist. Even Alberta is adding a requirement for a “Lateral Bracing Plan” for new house construction to deal with possible earthquake and high winds. I just got a quote on such a plan from a BC engineer for an 18′ x18′ two story addition to an existing house near Cranbrook BC. $3,000.00.

Is anyone aware of any house in Alberta which collapsed from earthquake or high winds?

The whole thing smells of bullshit to me.

    1. Back in the late 90’s the AB code regs changed to up the earthquake rating from nil ti 1, something like that. The City of ___ building maybe 5 stories tall was studied on how to achieve that. The recommendation was to strengthen the elevator core but i think it went nowhere. Too disruptive.

  4. Anyone wanting a good laugh. Take the details on this house (inclusive of the surrounding land) and solicit a price in various hardcore blue city suburbs. As an example, this place in Alabama listed at $435,000 would cost you closer to $3 Million in the Los Angeles area. And, that’s lowballing it. NYC suburbs is closer to $1.5 Million, BUT, only 17% of the properties in and around NYC are single family homes, and there would be a massive bidding war upping the value significantly.
