  1. Talk to a doper and you get: “I can drive a car just fine when I’ve got a buzz on, but when I drink alcohol I can’t.”

That lie has been repeated forever. No more.

Nearly half of drivers killed in crashes had THC in their blood
THC-impaired driving deaths are soaring, and legalization hasn’t slowed the trend.

Summary: Over 40% of fatal crash victims had THC levels far above legal limits, showing cannabis use before driving remains widespread. The rate didn’t drop after legalization, suggesting policy changes haven’t altered risky habits. Experts warn that the lack of public awareness around marijuana’s dangers behind the wheel is putting lives at risk.

    1. I believe the main issue is the science is not really settled or even slightly solid.

In Australia if they find any thc in the blood then its drug driving and they can detect it for 30 days after use.

I have no idea if how fast smoking cannabis wears off compared to a beer or how much you need to consume to be the equivalent of 2.something drinks.

But they should probably figure it out.

In australia your not going to be prosecuted because you had a 1 drink 4 weeks ago or even 1 drink a hour ago.

in bc I suspect after using cannabis for the last 24 hours you can hop in your car and legally you fine even if you think you should be dodging the pink elephants.

I presume there is some number where cannabis can be detected and you are still safe to drive. The level of impairement is less then a radio or someone chatting from the passenger seat.

But as for the article. decriminalising drugs is just dumb without additional laws.

dont inject in public, dont leave refuse in public places or where it can be found by kiddies, dont drug drive. dont operate machinery while drugged.

  2. So, the government legalizes drug in order to buy a few votes (and probably pad a few nests). Then, when the body count gets so high that they can’t ignore the problem anymore they say “oops, my bad” and carry on like nothing happened. Is that seriously how this story is going to end?
