  1. “Garnet Wolseley, a British general who led the 1870 reign of terror against the Red River Metis, also waged imperial violence during India’s 1857 War of Independence.”

Reign of terror? 1870? Nasty British and Canadians let them govern themselves and gave them free title to their land. Tell me it’s not so.

    1. No, it isn’t quite so. The Red River Metis did indeed leave the country; to what extent they were forced off and to what extent they simply couldn’t stand the new neighbours is difficult to assess at this distance, but they were displaced within the first decade. And there is no question that they weren’t dealt with honestly or honourably, Canada simply did not conduct itself honestly or honourably in the annexation of the West. Sorry to take such an extreme position, but it seems clear from the record.

Now, “reign of terror”, that is pushing it a bit. There was one occasion when a local Metis picked a fight with a Canadian soldier in a local pub, they took it outside, and the local wound up shot dead. On the strength of this, generations of Quebec schoolchildren were taught that the Canadians had conducted a campaign of murderous extermination against the Metis. I guess people believe that today, if they want to believe.

  2. “The conference was presented by the Islamic Social Service Association (ISSA) and funded by the Winnipeg Foundation and Canadian Heritage.”

So the government is funding islamic expansionism, and the tribals are falling for it… wonderful

  3. Manitoba natives believe they are treated bad now by bad whitey. Wait until the moose limbs take over.

Women valued at 50%, burkas all around, no more women’s rights. Then there are the children. They think MMIW is a problem now.

Can see the men jumping right in.

  4. Strikes me as strange that devout Muslims would associate and celebrate animist religious cults. Isn’t there something in Islamist religious texts about what fate awaits infidels, apostates and others that do not follow Islam? And Muslims that stray? If Sunni and Shiite can justify slaugtering each other for centuries, I’m not convinced this Indian/Muslim thing is on the up and up. But you got to hand it to the Muslims, they know which group can exploit whithey.
