Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

the size of texas ,,twice the size of texas, big as europe , twice as big as europe. but no one had a real picture of it . then it was micro plastics , cant be seen. pictures off the coast of new delhi. oh here it is. the city in the background.
Soon … NO grocery store in CA will be allowed to offer plastic bags. Nope, it will be back to brown paper bags for the lot of us. Yes, this will almost double the number of bags I use each shopping trip, because brown paper cannot hold a fraction of the weight of plastic bags.
And yes, I had actually been eco-trained to bring my own durable shopping bags … but then … COVID and the insane “public health” rules FORBADE using my own “filthy dirty, virus laden” shopping bags. Yes … Fauxci and his local acolytes insisted my personal shopping bags could harbor the COVID virus… where they could live for WEEKS!! Yes, my bags could KILL my neighbors.
Well … almost 5-years post-COVID government hysteria … I can bring my own shopping bags again. To which I respond to the capricious FAKE-scienteers in government … FKCU-U !!! I will never bring my own shopping bags ever again. Why? Well the “experts” in Public Health told me just how dangerous they are!!! Aieeeeeee!!! They could be carrying Bird Flu, or M-Pox now!!! Or even ewwwwwww HIV!!
Kenji, In my neck of the Kanadian woods, my town launched a program named “Choose to reuse”, and then the municipal powers BANNED the use of plastic bags in grocery stores. So much for “choice”. Today, I dutifully deny any of the stores’ requests to buy a paper bag or their reusable sh*ty handbags. I fill up my cart and do the packing at the car, Costco style.
How did the SF job offer turn out for your kid? A happy result, I hope.
Well I’d like to know the rivers in Bangkok and other 3rd world countries are covered in plastics and other garbage. I can see it collecting into the ocean and into clusters due to currents.
So if I understand her, we need to cut back on plastics…how? Go back to beer bottles?
The irony is everything she is wearing or using or all the ladies being interviewed is wearing plastic…just the iPhone buds alone.
Reminds me of the “disappearing Rain Forest” scam.
It was taught in a number of schools (I was there) that Brazil was losing rain forest acreage the size of France every year.
This lie was promulgated for over 15 years.
BTW, the Great Barrier Reed is doing just fine, too.
Growing, actually.
Well, the great barrier isn’t just doing fine…generalizations like you made aren’t factual.
https://www.whoi.edu/oceanus/feature/is-the-great-barrier-reef-making-a-comeback/
And another article showing the GBReef is in a flux of life and death.
Both links are 2023 and 2024…

Yes, the Great Barrier Reef is doing just fine and then some. Chicken Littles just can’t bring themselves to admit they were wrong.
As for your choice of Science blogs…I’d do better if I were you. With titles to articles such as below…well, you know the rest. Personally I think you come here to do a bit of trolling.
How climate change is affecting extreme weather events around the world
Climate change exacerbated hurricane Harvey’s flood damage, hitting low-income and Latinx neighborhoods disproportionately harder
Heat dome and other climate events have growing impact on mental health
The global warmists are getting as desperate as COVID Public Health officials whose only prescription for COVID was the elimination of Free Speech. The elimination of “misinformation”
They’re desperate to avoid the same end COVID got “When the Truth is found to be Lies” … to quote the Jefferson Airplane. “And all the Joy, within Kam-a-la Dies”
The Great Barrier Reef is a place all of its own.
Here is a link to an actual scientist who dives on the reef (and regularly photographs it).
https://jennifermarohasy.com/
Corals PREFER warmer waters, in general. Some species can live in cooler waters, but in “spots” that benefit from warm, circulating ocean current; In Moreton Bay, east of Brisbane, for example. Even I have dived on my “home reef”
As for “Pacific Islands being flooded by rising oceans?
Virtually every atoll and island chain across the Pacific is built on top of a submarine volcano. The Hawaiian chain is a “macro” example. The catch is that Hawaii is MOVING on a tectonic “conveyor”. This movement takes it off the “hot-spot”, the source of the volcanic activity. While the volcanic activity continues laying down “new land”, all is sweet. The ocean is CONSTANTLY taking back this “new” land. Check out the parlous state of the western-most Hawaiian islands. Rock-doctors suspect that there is already a “new” formation above the hotspot, east of the big Island. WHEN it emerges, the political and scientific bickering and infighting may be amusing to watch.
I pi$$ed the neighbors off during the Rain Forest scam..
They had school kids going around selling 1 acre lots of rain forest to keep the developers out. I told them I’d bought 300 acres and they were extremely happy, until I told them I’d sold the timber rights to a Brazilian firm..
Microplastics she talks about is no problem whatsoever, really – but recycled plastics are toxic and should be incinerated instead.
But, but, but … tire dust! Skid marks!! Eliminate pneumatic tires!!! Aiiiieeeeeeeee!!!
Governments are working hard on the tire plastic pollution problem. Once the auto EV policies are fully implemented we won’t have cars so will have no need of tires. And you thought governments didn’t have your interest at heart didn’t you. Silly Billies.
While a lot of work remains to be done, it is entirely possible that microplastics are a problem. Drink out of glasses, do not use non-stick pans. Cast iron skillet for life!
Ya know, UnMe….it makes me smile when I agree with you.
It can happen. : )
Well, I don’t agree with UnReal. I will no longer tolerate unelected government bureaucrats telling which products I should or should not use. My faith and trust in government institutions have been completely and utterly destroyed because of their overreach, blatant lies, and psyop scare tactics with the intent to forward their agenda of keeping us all on a leash.
From now on, I live my own life, and if anyone tells me to do things differently, especially if their “advice” lowers my standard of living, or makes me become MORE dependent on government, I will tell them which part of my anatomy they can kiss, before I tell them all to go FOAD!
…and that includes YOU, UnReal!
That’s not how it works. Some prior malfeasance on the part of some twerps in the government do not give you a right to produce or use CFCs or leaded gasoline.
It does.
I have a buddy who uses leaded gasoline for his antique car. You can still buy CFC refrigerants.
I will say that sailing across the Pacific in a sloop in the 1990s for three days running we did sail through a part of the ocean that had plastic containers floating in it as far as the eye could see. However, it was not as thick as portrayed in some of the alarmist videos. So it was definitely a thing. That being said, what the true environmental/ecological implications of it are, I can’t really know. I do find it interesting that micro-organisms grow on and digest the plastic which is not completely surprising given that the plastics are hydrocarbons which themselves are the building blocks of life.
I like the convenient response that claims CLEANING the plastic OUT of the ocean is now MORE DANGEROUS than leaving it be. Because the plastic has become “part of the ocean ecosystem”. Why is this convenient? Because it precludes any MANAGEMENT of plastics … and concludes the ONLY answer is to BAN all plastics.
That is just as insane as saying there is no use in cleaning up oil spills, or Love Canal, or other eco-disasters. No … just BAN all things. BAN oil … BAN chemicals … BAN, BAN, BAN
Some years back I recall reading an article about the concern in the US about the millions of gallons of oil that were unaccounted for after being used , and the agnst about impending doom. It later transpired there are many microorganisms in the soil that love oil … ditto it seems for plastics in the oceans.
The Floating Island of Plastic like the Rain Forests Scam just more ways the Eco-Freaks trick us into donating to them
Never mind, the floating islands of concrete and metal and plastic that are swindlefarms will save the planet /sarc
“85% of it is from the fishing industry”. Who wants to make a quick guess which country probably contributes the most? Hint hint…they have recently overfished their own shores and are now gaining fishing rights in places like the Somali coast and the Gulf of Mexico.
Additionally, the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch” is a great fundraiser. Governments issue grants to private companies. Charitable foundations issue massive grants to those same private companies. The Helmsley Foundation just shelled out $15 Million to this very issue. What amuses me is that the full removal projected cost is over $5 Billion. Does anyone truly think picking up trash and hauling it away would cost over $5 Billion regardless of its location? As long as they can point to this garbage patch and market the ignorant altruists, it’s going to remain right where it is. The “Great Pacific Garbage Patch” is a cash cow.
We recycle plastics so I don’t feel like we’re part of the problem.
Have a nice day.
So where were all the evil plastic drinking straws going?
I thought they were going there …
https://theoceancleanup.com/
Dutch guy Boyan Slat had this figured out years ago. He hired pilots to fly over and map the pacific. Found most plastic was fishing nets. Now is working on cleaning the rivers (mostly in Asia) before garbage ends up in Ocean.
Ah, Boyan Slat….he’s that Dutch kid…yes? Take a look at junior’s net worth sometime. He refuses to divulge how much he pays himself from all the donations…but it’s estimated to be well up into seven figures annually.
One effective solution is waste-to-fuel/waste-to-energy. Calgary’s Alter-NRG had the technology to do exactly that but that company & its tech were bought lock-stock-and-barrel by the Chinese for $5/sh in 2015 (150% takeout premium) https://calgaryherald.com/business/energy/alter-nrg-stock-rises-150-on-147m-chinese-takeover-offer . Plastics is petroleum based so it’s a pretty straight forward process and it really is a form of recycling. The facilities themselves don’t need a big footprint. Why Canada doesn’t use this tech in the major cities is mind boggling. Hopefully PP can answer that call. China’s already done exactly that.
So many authorities believe in “the noble lie” –that it’s okay to lie to the public if the aim is good. The problem is that it degrades trust in authorities. At some point it will be very important we listen to and believe experts, but there will be no more credibility.
“but there will be no more credibility.”
The sooner the better…. A long life has taught me that anyone giving you advice/telling you what to do only wants your money in their pocket!
Do your own research and make up your own mind. If you make a mistake and it kills you, at least it will be your mistake and not some ‘experts’ mistake that killed you.
But WHICH “plastics” make up this “island”?
Chinese nylon fishing nets with floats attached, Low-density Polyethelene drink and food containers, mainly from…….
Note that to “float”, the plastic has to be less dense than sea water. Polyethelene is the obvious one. It is also very prone to degrading to “dust” when exposed to direct sunlight (UV component, especially). many “engineering” plastics, like PVC do NOT “float” in their solid form. “Expanded” Polystyrene floats because of the gases contained in the bonded “pellets”. See also polyurethane “foam” used in life-rafts, buoyancy-cavity filler in boats, etc..
The indiscriminate lumping together of disparate materials clearly indicates that a seriously large scam is being run.
There are sooo many lies.
