Robert Hur, the former Trump-appointed US Attorney who declined to prosecute President Joe Biden after classified materials were found in his Delaware home and a former office in Washington, DC, will appear before the House Judiciary Committee as a private citizen who has surrounded himself with Republican partisans and notorious figures linked to former president Donald Trump as he prepares for his Tuesday appearance before the House Judiciary Committee.

According to multiple sources familiar with Mr Hur’s plans, the special counsel, who is appearing before the Judiciary Committee at the request of the Republican majority led by Ohio Representative Jim Jordan, has arranged his departure from the Department of Justice to be official as of Monday 11 March, one day before he is scheduled to appear on Capitol Hill.

Instead of appearing as a DOJ employee who is bound by the ethical guidelines which govern the behaviour of federal prosecutors, he will appear as a private citizen with no constraints on his testimony.

A Judiciary Committee source said Mr Hur’s departure from government service the day before he testifies is a major red flag for Democrats on the panel.

He’s scheduled to testify at 10 am on CSPAN

  4. There’s most likely going to be a reason soon for why FJB is removed and replaced by Gavin Newsome. I think he’ll resign for “health reasons” but maybe he’s not getting the message and needs more persuasion.

    BTW, I predicted Kamala Harris would be VP after the first Democrat presidential debate where she was flirting with FJB.

    1. If the paste eater is replaced by anyone it’s going to have to be Harris, no getting around that. If they try pushing her out then sit back and grab your popcorn because she won’t go quietly and she (and her supporters) will scream racism all the way. Any new VP will have to be confirmed by Congress, which is something they may want to avoid during an election year.

      They could try and swap him out at the convention but that has its own dangers. At this point it looks like it’s the paste eater or bust.

        1. I thought they were going to drop “Mike” in at the convention but she has said she wants no part of this and said so again last week. She might seem like a good candidate now but then she has kept a low profile so not to be too controversial, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have skeletons.

          Looking forward to watching this because the dems don’t have a lot of realistic choices to put at the top of their ticket. Crazy, crazier and craziest don’t offer much of a selection.

  5. So the Democrats continue to want it both ways. Nadler shows a video that questions Trump’s memory. Okay, if so, then he should not be charged with the documents he kept either.

    1. I had the same thought. When they defend Biden with examples where Trump can not remember it makes them more equal in their abilities not less equal in the eyes of the law.

  7. Just watched some of the testimony. Just a snippet, but it really didn’t look supportive to Trump and I could well have missed parts that were. The message I took away is -“When the democrats do it , it’s not illegal.”

    1. The only thing they could conceivably charge Trump with is obstruction. The fact that Biden co-operated and turned over all documents seems like a ridiculous defense. If charged and found guilty, it might mitigate penalties but someone suspected of grand theft doesn’t get let off just because he admits it and returns the items stolen.

      1. So, true. Even if they return those stolen items decades later. Biden had fifty hears of mis-handling classified (they were found in his Delaware basement and his garage dating from the 1970s.).
        Trump had a dispute over whether he had a right to keep them, Biden never had that right!

  8. I’m watching Hur’s appearance before Congress. The Democrats on the committee aren’t asking questions for the most part. They are answering their own questions which are mostly statements, testifying on Biden’s behalf and speechifying. Raskin is ridiculous (and I don’t mean that as a good thing like sportswriters do these days). He just went on for five minutes and didn’t ask a single question of Hur. The difference in the treatment of Trump and Biden is glaringly obvious.

    1. Democrats: Trump, Trump, Trump … but what about Trump!!?? He’s being prosecuted in FOUR different cases! Trump is a criminal!

      Oh? This Hearing is about the Biden mishandling of Top Secret Documents? Nevermind.

      1. The video that Nadler showed seemed to give Trump the same defense as Biden. Aging with poor memory. However, apparently unlike Biden, a jury wouldn’t be as kind. It’s too stupid.

    1. Of course, a few of the Republicans do the same thing but generally they are questioning the witness and letting him answer for himself.

  10. Why didnt Hur mention how previous Presidents treated documents upon leaving? Obama is said to have take 11,000,000 documents to Illinois, and the Archives reached an agreement allowing him to retain them while he built his library? Why wasn’t he charged?

  11. Even though Ben Hur is a Republican his ruling is confusing as a precedent was set for President Trump! If one President is charged both should be! His resigning had nothing more than saving his own skin!
    Again this indicates that in both US and Canada’s democracies——- there is one Law for the progressive parties and one Law for the Conservative parties!
    This will lead to Tyranny!
