  1. “remove links to Canadian news from our Search, News and Discover products in Canada,”

So, that means that for news events occurring in Canada, the search will actually point only to news sources outside of Canada. So, this is of course worse than the situation before this law was conceived. Canadian news providers will now get less money and less views. In fact, google searches will actually increase traffic to providers outside of Canada at the expense of news providers inside Canada, even when the news originates in Canada.

    Brilliant.

    1. Thats fine, we get more accurate news about our country that way right now anyway LOL

    2. This is deliberate. Make them dependent on government subsidies and reduce the number of journalists asking questions.

  2. The answer to Kent is simple: make a better product rather than the worthless crud you put on the air now. You have been losing viewers because your news and entertainment quality has been disintegrating for years.

  3. Slowly, but surely, Canada is morphing into a clone of North Korea.

Soon Canadians will be so uninformed and misinformed through government propaganda that we will not have a clue about what is going on in the real world.

    1. Exactly my thoughts. It will be quickly and easily achieved in this Country, where curiosity is a rare commodity and dull acceptance is the status quo.

  4. The Bong insisted negotiations were ongoing. Meta said there are no negotiations nor will there be any.

Nice move by the Ottawa clowns. Next time an emergency arises we can go to the Washington Post or the NYT to find out what’s going on in our country. Can the government now even get their message out?

The libranos are in deep shit over this. Depending on what the ndp do the government could fall. My guess is there will be emergency meetings going on at the highest cabinet level.

A huge walk back and the resultant embarrassment looks to be in order for the Bong.

This is what happens when you put the kids in charge. After 8 years it’s a continuing saga of goofs.

    1. Gosh. Biden and his administration are looking better every day. I did not think that was possible, but the Sparkle Socks said, “Hold my beer white wine spritzer,” and here we are.

  5. “We also endorsed the alternative model of an independent fund for Canadian journalism supported by both platforms and the Government, …”

Does anyone think that an “independent” fund would be any less of a burden on taxpayers than the current model?

  6. Google already refuses to send me to SDA unless I type the whole thing in, including .com
Keeps trying to send me to the city of Tampa animal control website.

  7. Your news will still all be available, just not through Facebook or Google News, right?

You might find that it works better.

  8. Government (to Facebook, Google et al.): “From now on, if you put links to Canadian media items on your pages, you’re going to have to pay for them.”

Facebook, Google et al.: “OK, we’ll just stop putting those links on our pages then.”

Government: “Er… Oh… [sotto voce] Never though of that.”

  9. Bill C-18 is doing EXACTLY what Trudeau and his crew wanted it to do. Now Canadians will only be able to access news that has been filtered through the Censors who work for the Liberal Party.
C-18 wasn’t about revenue…..it was meant to eliminate access to organizations like Rebel News, True North, The Post Millenial, and any other news organization that criticizes Trudeau.

C-18. Doing just what was expected.

    1. Do we know for a fact that the alternative news stories will also be ignored by Google / Meta, or is it the “official” MSM media only ?

  10. It strikes me that this is all not a problem for the Canadian government. Turn off outside news outlets, get them to turn off news articles and such, and keep the news only coming from your government approved broadcast outlets.
