      For example, this is a Calgary city bylaw, it is against the law to wash your car on the street. Nowhere does it specifically say that. Instead it says you cannot cause or allow a substance to access the storm drains.

    2. I’m sorry for being such a pessimist, but my instincts are telling me that there is a pivot point, and we just passed it. The government narrative seems to be working, because they are appealing to the working class people not involved with the protest. 2/3 of the country are not in favor of the protests, but they seem to identify with the protestors, or so the polls say, which quite frankly doesn’t make much sense to me, but then again, nothing about this does.

      The mood at ground zero was quite festive tonight. I couldn’t see through the crowd at the main stage, and I felt it when the jumping started during “We’re Not Going to Take It.” An army of police officers were everywhere, but nobody seemed to care. I’m not sure if this is going to last. I’m supposed to go back tomorrow morning, and if there’s no crackdown before then, Sunday as well.

    2. If you’re retired or not working and live near one of the main east-west or cross-border railways, get a group of like minded individuals together and blockade that. It doesn’t take much to blockade a railway and there are so many thousands of rural roads crossing them, enforcement action by the police is impossible – it’d be the most epic game of whack-a-mole, ever imagined.

  27. If he tries to physically remove the truckers, I wonder if we’ll see police and/or military refuse to do so. I’m a pretty mild-mannered guy but this feels like an issue I would hit the streets for. There must be a lot of rank and file officers who identify with the truckers over the effing embarrassment Trudeau who was mostly elected by middle-aged and neurotic urban women.

In 1956, the USSR could only repress Hungarians by using Siberian troops, not European slavic divisions for what combat there was.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the last time an English army was used to suppress its own civilians was the suppression of Wat Tyler’s revolt in 1381. England had problems with using regulars to shoot American militia from the get-go at Lexington. For most of the war, England relied on as many hired mercenaries from Germany as they could get.

      Government can do all kinds of nasty stuff that could effect the private insurance contracts, but as far as I’m aware there is no clause saying the private insurers can cancel because the government doesn’t like them. There’s also a residual market of last resort that won’t say no, its silly expensive but if you’ve got no choice its there. You are required to have third party liability coverage so no I don’t they’ll go after the insurance contracts.

      Socks and Ford keep saying the protest is illegal but not the grounds that it is. I keep remembering a line that the convoy rep said in one of the pressers, a judge has confirmed they’re doing nothing illegal.

      To me the whole reaction by all levels of government is just despicable, despot level crap that is easily solved.
