I think the last time I watched a series on the CBC, was when I was a kid and they had Bonanza. Maybe now that Justin is giving them an extra forty million dollars, they can produce something worthwhile again. Or maybe not.

No matter what the CBC put on their roster, I wouldn’t watch that network on principle. It needs to die. It is an evil partisan excuse for what is supposed to be impartial journalism. Any media network or “unbiased” news outlet, that takes federal funds, cannot be be bipartisan, and that is an affront to the citizens of this once great country, having their tax dollars used to create lies under the pretense of it being “news”!
Related but purely just a coincidence

Yeah… after 3 years, she’s going to appear virtually in a U.S. Court in New York, plead not guilty, and go free.
Meanwhile, the two Michaels are still sitting in a prison cell somewhere in China.
I mean… WHAT THE FRIGGIN HELL… I’m so angry right now at the waste, at Biden’s “build back better” America, at the Demon-craps, and LIE-berals in general, that I’m spittin’ shoe polish!
It will never die. It will continue to be where politicians’ and bureaucrats’ unemployable relatives are set up to receive an allowance for life.
The only time I’ve watched the CBC was they were on strike, and were playing re runs of Star Trek and Sherlock Holmes.
William Shatner and Jeremy Brett.
They don’t make actors like that anymore.
Jeremy Brett Is the quintessential Holmes in my opinion.
I used to like Benedict Cumberbatch’s version, but, after I learned of his association with Extinction Rebellion, I not only changed my mind, but I donated my Sherlock DVDs to Goodwill.
This was a great CBC series. The Ten Thousand Day War. I watched and rewatched this many times.

That was made over forty years ago.
With OJ talking Bonanza, I thought I was in the ballpark.

IMO The Ten Thousand Day War is as good as more recent Vietnam war docs, like Ken Burns.

Actually, the PBS documentary series Vietnam: A Television History from nearly 40 years ago was better than them, though it tended to be sympathetic to the communists.
BTW, TTTDW was produced by former CBC journalist Michael Maclear and narrated by Richard Basehart.
Thanks BA, I’ll check that out!
CBC.ca, re ON vaccine passports, censored this text: “When you sacrifice a bit of freedom for safety, you lose both”.
CBC looks and behaves like Minister of Truth. They are a big pile of biased garbage, doing prostitution in media for their masters. And they have many years since they do this. Liberals+NDP are The Party already. We are living in a prequel of Orwell’s 1984.
I used to comment on CBC. I quit. They kept banning me and I discovered they were also shadow banning me on the odd comment that was getting through.
one would suspect, that with the over $2 billion the government spends supporting the various media properties, and the untold amounts of in kind contributions that various protectionist laws provide, the CBC would be able to provide 24/7/264 of canadian content (that ultimately no one actually wants to watch) but they are utterly unable to.
Its also probably safe to assume that the CBC is bloated and top heavy, but no one is allowed to know outside of the CBC, because that might affect their “competitive standards”
That 2 Billion is only the publically available amount for the subsidy. There is a lot more in various government departments budgets that is directed to them via ad buys, and from what I have seen, the government pays a far higher cpm for their ads than anyone in the private sector would.
Since 2010 CBC ad revenue has ranged from 500 to 800 million, so my guess is that there is another 300 million a year from government going to CBC above the acknowledged subsidy.
CBC is re-running Downton Abbey for at least the third time (of which I am aware) – again a British Series. I also prefer the The Great British Baking Show as to the “half-baked” Canadian version (the hosts are unwatchable!) When our mother was alive and living with my daughter and I, I would sit with her as she watched “Coronation Street”. I have tried watching it from time to time now and all I can say is that the characters are “FUBARed”.
Even though I am enjoying retirement, I am busy with house projects, reading, gardening and enjoying real life. I do not have any spare time to waste watching idiots on TV. I have read somewhere (perhaps on this site!) that only 3% of Canadians (and this includes small children who watch cartoons) watch CBC. If this is true, it is very expensive television.
Ah, yes, Downton Abbey….. a pale imitation of Upstairs, Downstairs (the original, not the dreadful “sequel”). I watched the series when it was shown on PBS, but stopped after Shirley Maclain was on. I didn’t miss it after that.
I thought the ending of the second season, where what’s-his-face gets up out of the wheelchair, would have been much better if it had been done like this:

What someone didn’t enjoy watching “Little Mosque on the Prairie?”
What? Someone didn’t enjoy watching “The Plouffe Family?”
La famille Plouffe
My mother spoke fondly of the English version of it when it was on the air shortly after we came to Canada.
No. They have destroyed their credibility as a news source representing the Canadian public. I think the media are all just talking to one another. Their “entertainment” seems to lean towards woke — not really very entertaining or representative of Canadian views. Personally, I doubt that the woke among us watch them either.
I’m holding out for the lesbian version of Anne of Green Gables.
Marilla as a butch dyke with a mullet! I am so in. A trans Gilberta?
Wikipedia: “State media is not to be confused with public broadcasting and public sector media (state-funded), which is funded directly or indirectly by the state or government but over which the state does not have editorial control.”
Change My Mind: Funding = Editorial Control
You must be really old if you watch television.
I remember an editorial cartoon from decades ago that showed a CBC newsreader sitting at the newsdesk, saying into the microphone (Panel 1) “CBC News will be producing an in-depth investigation into western alienation to expose the issues regarding western anger at the east”
(panel 2) “Filming begins Monday in Mississauga”.
Nobody watches the CBC nor reads the Globe and Mail.
I remember about 15 or so years ago the Globe and Mail was free at the University. What made that interesting was nobody would pick up a free newspaper. Talk about advertising your product. After a number of months, the free Globe and Mail was removed from the University. You could still buy it in the bookstores.
Last time I tuned to the CBC–I was in grade school watching re-runs of I Dream of Jeannie (mid-70ish? in Windsor, ON).
You would think with all the Government money flowing to the CBC, they could afford a hairdresser for Rosemary Barton.
The CBC should die a natural death but no one will allow that for some reason.
I did enjoy watching The Rockford Files an 11:45 followed by an Errol Flynn movie, and due to a scheduling change one night I discovered The Prisoner with Patrick McGoohan.
The Gloat & Wail has changed format and now resembles The Coffee News, only with less substance.
To add injury to insult, not only does the CBC maintain that it is neutral politically, so do many others in the main stream media outlets. Their competition, for goodness sake. Birds of a feather…
CRTC watches CBC for quality control and training purposes.
Actually you would be and are amazed at how many on the left derive their news and views from places like CBC , CTV , CNN, CP24 , The View and look down upon any alternate viewpoint , especially from the Alternate Media.
If you have any doubts look at the just concluded (almost) Federal Election . Roughly half of the population either doesn’t give a shit , or are indoctrinated by the left media.
Canada is in a mess .
China.
China controls , influences , bribes , extorts an unknown number of Canadian officials both private and public.
Green Energy is a disaster .
Trudeau has decreed as of 2035 no fossil fuel cars will be allowed. Where is the multitude of nuclear reactors and the infrastructure and money needed to implement this insanity ?
Debt :
The debt under Trudeau is astronomical . People assume Justin can just demand the Bank of Canada print more money without any consequences. Hey lefties take a look at Venezuela where due to inflation many of the poor are existing on $6US per day ! Current exchange rate 1 CAD = 3,282,101 VES.
This from a country with one of the largest oil reserves which was destroyed by the socialists/communists.
This is Canada’s future under Trudeau.
… and I didn’t even mention COVID and the loss of freedom.
Given that the CBC is the most subsidized of leftist clone networks its anachronistic existence is obvious to anyone. The majority of media outlets in Canada exist as a mindless fog now paid but naturally predisposed to keeping the sunlight of alternative views, news, and narrative that doesn’t represent those of the institutional left from those shrinking numbers of viewers. The CBC hasn’t had any reason to exist since the advent of cable and satellite other than as an illiberal tool of political statism and ongoing opposition to all things “conservative”. That Canadians tolerate and support a state regime that has put the media on its payroll speaks volumes of the results of decades of such mindless fog.
Nowadays, you can watch Bonanza at noon on CHCH… That is, if you can get past the politically correct disclaimer that leads into the show.
I have not watched CBC nor any other so called news network whether CTV, Global, Fox, CBS, ABC, CNN, or any other TV for over 15 years. Nor have I any plans to start watching any of these Ministry of Truth channels anymore.
“Maybe now that Justin is giving them an extra forty million dollars, they can produce something worthwhile again. ”
During the election campaign the Liberals were promising an extra *400* million…
