Israel reportedly struck a site in Iran early Friday in retaliation for Tehran firing a barrage of missiles and drones at Israel late Saturday.

The semiofficial Fars news agency reported on the sound of explosions over Isfahan near its international airport. It offered no explanation for the blast. However, Isfahan is home to a major airbase for the Iranian military, as well as sites associated with its nuclear program.

Unconfirmed: Iraqi sources report that airstrikes in the capital city of Baghdad have targeted a building where a high-level meeting was being held with the presence of several groups supported by Iran and members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The aging Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles that have formed the land-based leg of the nation’s nuclear deterrent triad for half a century can no longer be upgraded and require costly replacements, Adm. Charles Richard, head of U.S. Strategic Command, said Tuesday.

“Let me be very clear: You cannot life-extend the Minuteman III [any longer],” he said of the 400 ICBMs that sit in underground silos across five states in the upper Midwest.

“We can’t do it at all. … That thing is so old that, in some cases, the drawings don’t exist anymore [to guide upgrades],” Richard said in a Zoom conference sponsored by the Defense Writers Group.

Where the drawings do exist, “they’re like six generations behind the industry standard,” he said, adding that there are also no technicians who fully understand them. “They’re not alive anymore.”

The Nuclear Theory You Never Knew Was Nonsense

In 2018, I was asked to submit a paper and make a presentation on the fraud of LNT to a joint meeting of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) and the Health Physics Society (HPS) on low-level radiation hazards and risk management. I was asked because the organizers of the meeting knew that I was critical of LNT radiation biophysics — I thought it was a crock.

LNT says there is no safe level of radiation exposure, but obviously, the better rule is the rule of Paracelsus: “All things are poison and nothing is without poison; only the dose makes that a thing is no poison.” (The dose makes the poison.) No threshold of LNT throws that maxim out the window.

My negative attitude about LNT was nurtured by a twenty-plus-year interest in the work of Ed Calabrese, U. Mass Amherst, reigning expert on low-level radiation hazards and the theory of heresies that asserts a tri-phasic effect of exposure of all kinds — 1) a no effect level, 2) a beneficial effect at low exposure levels, and 3) a toxic effect at higher levels of exposure. My medical experience with drug effects shows that same hermetic diphasic effect — drugs have a sweet spot between no effect and toxic effect.

I would strongly caution people against celebrating what is happening in Russia. There have been fewer harsher critics of Putin’s invasion but chaos is very rarely a good thing.

Prigozhin is not the only one with a private army in Russia. Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has a large force under his command who have 0 loyalty to Russia or Putin. They hate Wagner but if Putin has to be rescued by them, why not take him out as well as take over the country?

Will the national guard fight for Putin?

We don’t have answers to any of these questions ..and an armed mutiny in a nuclear nation is a big deal.

Evgeny Prigozhin has announced that having moved his units to within 200km of Moscow he is turning around “to avoid spilling Russian blood”.

He claims his “March for Justice” was triggered by an attempt to disband Wagner.

It’s hard to describe how NOT over this is.

You can’t lead an armed mutiny which has allegedly shot down a number of Russian MoD helicopters and threatened Moscow and then just turn around and go home.

This will run and the pressure will be on Putin for heads to roll.

Remain skeptical: The information war is peaking. Social media is a huge battlefield today.

By the way, if you want to know what I think, this is what I think.

I’m old enough to remember when Trump was a Russian asset, the Truckers Convoy was the work of Russian actors, and Putin was falling down stairs and dying of a mystery disease.

But hey, lets set aside their track record for lying, and skip along behind Biden and Trudeau into a confrontation with a nuclear armed Russia like good little citizens, while we eagerly await the next round of gun confiscation and internet speech laws to take effect. Kiss your old vaccine passes for good luck! Do it for democracy.

Let me share a little story.

Many years ago, a great controversy erupted when a tailings pond at a northern Saskatchewan uranium mine was breached, and radioactive water flowed into a local creek. As you might imagine, much hand wringing and Indigenous outrage and excitable CBC stories ensued.

Omitted from the reporting eruption was that the tailings spill had lower levels of radiation than the natural creek water, effectively diluting it.

Anyhoo… Saskatchewan is now the second largest producer of uranium in the world!

Not every Obama policy came to naught.

Inspectors from the UN atomic agency discovered uranium enriched to 84-percent purity in Iran last week, closer than ever to weapons-grade levels, Bloomberg reported Sunday, citing two unnamed senior diplomats.

Iran has been known thus far to have enriched uranium to 60%. A purity of 90% is needed to produce nuclear weapons.

International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors are trying to determine whether Tehran deliberately made the move or if it was an “unintended accumulation within the network of pipes connecting the hundreds of fast-spinning centrifuges used to separate the isotopes,” the report said.
