  1. More of that mischief, I see. Good. Keep it coming, as you do it so well.

  2. Well done Kate. Kinda fun playing the game under their rules. I can smell hair on fire from here. My choice for the new name?
    Washington Thinskins

      1. What about the poor buggers that were circumcised? Do you tack on “and Burgundy Heads” to the new name? Must be inclusive…

      2. Because their record shows that they’re out in front, or because whenever the cheering fans get them excited, things start to look up for them?

  3. Kate, they not only owned slaves, they owned black slaves. There’s a misconception that they only enslaved other Indians.

Here in Burlington, the famous Joseph Brant (Tyandanaga) owned between 30 to 40 slaves, many black. He brought them with him from New York when the Crown granted him a personal area of land in what today is Burlington and a significantly larger piece of land near Brantford for Six Nation’s.

Oh, and the Mohawk are not indigenous to the area. The Crown purchased the land from the Mississaugas and gave it to Six Nation’s as a reward for supporting the British during the Revolutionary War. Interesting to note that the first thing these great stewards of the land did was to immediately start selling it off to white settlers.

So if Black Lives Matter, the shame of Indian slave ownership must be redressed.

    1. Oh, Kate, you are such a brave, naughty girl! But you know history.
      ———————–
Thank you, Steve, for that bit of history. You are quite right that most of the Brant Mohawks were no Canadian “first nations”, any more than we old stock wasp Canucks were, i.e., the ones who came with or before Brant and settled in Eastern and Western Ontario with land grants from the Brits or came as UELs before or after that war.

Yes, the ones with large grants all became real estate developers of the day, as they could not possibly use all of the granted acreage themselves, even with slaves.

Ditto for the prairies, where many were formerly USA-born, but camped north of the 49th for the summer to pick yummy berries, meet and hunt, or showed up in “now Canada”, after having been driven out of the American west. That said, many BC tribes, some indigenous Eastern tribes and some northern tribes across the country, not real nations, and Metis too have deeper roots in Canada than those Brant Mohawks. Those here in British North America before us used slavery too, so after 7 generations, I bow to no one, as this is 2020, not 1833. I know my ancestors who came in 1763 up to 1817-60 never had slaves.

Slavery in Canada was tiny and chastised by the Brits 33 years before we became a Dominion. “The Slavery Abolition Act, (1833), in British history, an act of Parliament that abolished slavery in most British colonies, freed more than 800,000 enslaved Africans in the Caribbean and South Africa as well as a small number,” (NOTE SMALL NUMBER!) “in Canada. It received Royal Assent on August 28, 1833, and took effect on August 1, 1834.”

Why do we always adopt US problems?

Let the kids out to play this summer at bars or parties, as they are sick of COVID, so ridiculous protests are the sole outlet now.

      1. Not only freed the slaves, but paid compensation to the owners. Included in those receiving compensation were a significant number of Indians in Canada. The money borrowed by the crown to pay for those slaves was only paid off in the early 21st century. The truth is, Canadian taxpayers were paying an annual annuity to the crown (British Government) to pay for freeing the slaves, for most of my life.

  4. I learned something so thanks for that.
I have read that slavery is still practiced by the religion of peace today. Fact check please.

    Keep up the mischief!

  5. The Washington team will need a new Brand. The Washington ???

Washington Lobbyists — they are the primary ticket holders for the Redskins, so the team would be supporting them back? The logo could be a cash stuffed envelope? Contributions, Cash, and Coke? (I bet some of Kate’s commenters could come up with funnier ideas?)

  6. Kate

That is up there with the irony of “The Guardian” banging the drum on erasing past connections to the slave trade only to have it brought up that “The Guardian” was founded by money from the slave trade

  7. Excellent Kate, informing Canadians is always good. Too bad they rarely learn.

  8. Majority of Indian tribes in the Indian Territory (what is now Oklahoma) supported the Confederate side. During the Civil War thr U.S. federsls fought pitched battles against Confederate Indians.

  9. Torturing prisoners was common practise among tribes. The shrine in Midland Ontario partly tells the story of Catholic priests who were burned at the stake. And let us not forget human sacrifice and cannibalism that was practised by Indians in Mexico and Central America. During the War of 1812 there were incidents of indians scalping and torturing American prisoners of war.

    1. Scalping is a practice unique in the world to NA indians. The indian to this day is shit scared of the spirit world. Spirits are everywhere and will get you. I was once told to quit whistling in the house as I was disturbing the spirits. I replied I was whistling up the good spirits – the ones that liked Rogers and Hart, and Gershwin….. Anyway the act of being scalped prevents you from entry to the ‘happy hunting ground’.

      1. If I remember correctly, the first records of scalping appear in the records of the military governor of New York who was paying his Hessian mercenaries a bonus for Indian scalps. This practice so horrified the natives that they adopted it. I wasn’t there so I won’t swear to it.

        1. DLM

The practice of scalping didn’t come from the old world. Where in history can you quote a reference to it?

Scalping was so abhorrent a practice that sometimes it was used against the indians to send a message. Taking the scalp of ones enemies was a common practice in NA long before the Europeans arrived. Scalps were displayed and wildly celebrated in indian culture.

        2. The DC Hessian Scalp-Takers.

Good submission to our focus group. A little long for a jersey but good job picking up on the overtones of privileged white supremacy. May require an adjustment of the K-6 curriculum to help them understand that Hessians were both proto-Nazis and supporters of the English slave-state.

      2. True, to the best of my knowledge. I was just watching a show on the Celts, they would sometimes behead the losing side while on campaign, and hang the heads around their horse’s necks as a weapon of terror / warning to the next bunch of victims. “Don’t mess with us, or your head will be on my horse tonight.”

Whole head? Yes, old country. In fact, every populated continent. Scalp? I haven’t heard of such a thing from anywhere but North America.

        1. I remember reading somewhere that the practice of scalping was introduced by the Dutch. Don’t forget New York was once Nieuw Amsterdam. Have no idea why the Dutch would have introduced this practice, since it wasn’t used back in Europe. Suspect it was always there amongst the tribes, but gained “European” origins when the settlers encouraged their Indian allies to use same against foes.

  10. It would seem that a group of SJW’s lodged in FedEx may have jumped the Gun….A Public Company needs shareholder approval for this level of committed financial suicide… Nice fleet of Trucks & Planes in plain sight

    JMHO

  11. Are they based in Spokane? For those who are geographically challenged, I would suggest the new name should be ‘The D.C. Redskins’.

  12. Soon, all sports teams will be be “name of town/city” “type of sport” “club”.
I see the libtard troll responded to your tweet with the typical “but”response about Vikings.

  13. It’s funny that I witnessed 4 or 5 Hijabs leading a BLM protest march on July 1, screeching in their megaphone:

“Colonialism is stolen land” – mindlessly over and over.

I kept thinking, “well get the f*ck off it then”. I also realized that since everyone seems to think that first come first serve is the Social Justice rule of law, then we were here before Islam and they can take their own colonization of the west and double f*ck off as well, we were here first.

  14. Because of the dishonour and shameful criminal acts associated with the name “Washington Redskins,” the name will be changed.

Henceforth, they will be simply called “Redskins.”

  15. My family history writes about the time my forebearer lived with a native tribe in Black Hawk County, Iowa. 1830’s. The tribe members told him of another tribe that had lived in the area some 100 years earlier. This tribe had regularly taken slaves from surrounding tribes and had practiced canabalism regularly. This story came to a head when the tribe lured their neighbours in for a peace treaty. The celebration ended with sleep in the camp during which the host tribe killed their visitors and ate many of them. When they realized the political fallout they decamped and moved hundreds of miles south. Their history followed them as they remained outcasts as their numbers shrank to extinction.

I have never had a DNA test but our family book tells of my great x 5 grandmother have fine black hair well into her ’70’s. SJW’s and native activists are combing libraries across North America removing original source history from the shelves. The story I told above was actually fleshed out by the archives found in Black Hawk Country. I should check as this source could be gone now.

  16. Reading a book on Gaius Julius Caesar. The taking of slaves was endless and they were primarily white people. Every victory Caesar or any leader like Genghis Khan made was followed by selling the captives into slavery. 1 in 4 in Rome were slaves. Slaves had slaves. The muslims took literally millions of slaves, primarily white women, from Europe. Its in one of America”s major songs “from the shores of Tripoli.”

Our so called teachers don’t teach history to our students. Watched a video yesterday as the interviewer asked what Independence Day meant and when was American independence achieved. Very few knew the answers as we Canadians used to be taught far more American history than Lorre, my brothers American wife, was taught in her schools in California.

    1. Slave does come from Slav, and they weren’t known for being dark skinned. Just the closest source of slaves when Rome was becoming a powerhouse.

  17. Muslims spent 1,000 years raiding towns in Southern Europe to capture slaves. The first US foreign war was against the Barbary States of North Africa to free enslaved US sailors.

  18. A good thread.

Missionaries on Canada’s west coast reported the tribes bringing back prisoners following skirmishes with their brothers to the south (what is now Washington State). Women prisoners were usually integrated into the tribe as wives. Some of the men were kept as slaves and others were fattened like modern day cattle and butchered at ceremonial feasts. I read somewhere (can’t recall) that this practice continued into the 1860’s.

The first occupiers will increasingly be called to account as this madness continues. Politeness over these matters is disappearing.

    1. Part of this is recorded on historical plaques in Washington State. Visiting a couple of the beaches (at La Push and nearby) I read some of the historical monuments and they mentioned that the Haida tribes came south to raid for slaves. This would be fewer than ten years ago when I saw it.

  19. A number of sports teams will have to change their names because of the association with slavery.

Let’s start with the Seattle Mariners. The slaves didn’t arrive by plane, did they? Someone had to transport them by ship. And didn’t pirates also take captives and sell them as slaves? Well, there goes the team in Pittsburgh.

Then there are the Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Of course, dealers in sports memorabilia will make a fortune as items associated with the “banned” names will fetch higher prices as they become collector’s items.

    1. “Then there are the Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Chiefs.”

The Cleveland Indians should just switch to symbols of red dot Indians. They are proud of their heritage and are unlikely to object.

The Kansas City Chiefs should just change the imagery to Scottish. An arrow is an arrow.

  20. This is it. None of the savage tribes trying to lay claim to the fruits of western civilization ever had a real moral objection to slavery—just to having to get up in the morning and going to work.

  21. And it should be also said that the “Prophet” Muhammad also HIMSELF bought, sold, captured, and owned slaves.

  22. Perhaps the only name change required is to the country itself. There are states, but united they are not!

  23. How about the self flagellationists at Simon Fraser University. Their sports teams are called the Clan.

Apparently some of the knobs at the school have equated the Clan with the KKK? Huh? The Clan refers to Scottish Clans. Simon Fraser was a Scot ffs.

  24. Yes, it will outrage Islamists everywhere, a possible side benefit provided no terrorism, but what about the –

Washington Pigskins. Nice traditional name for a football and quite descriptive of the surrounding environs of the Beltway.

    1. Wouldn’t a change to the Chicago Blackcocks promote the BLM movement and, with the BBC fans, bring more minorities and ugly fat women into hockey fandom?

  25. The Blackcocks? Heh The mind reels imagining the possible permutations with that. The__________Knee Takers?

  26. I can’t wait for these boobs to start tearing down the pyramids in Egypt, they were built by slaves and owned by slave owners, just sayin’.

  27. when telling the truth is mischief…

it means we have gone too far and we must turn back.

the left has made it a crime to tell the truth, just like in Orwell’s 1984.

We must go back to saner times.

  28. The Washington Blackfaces. The team renamed themselves in honour of the Globalist PM of Canada. If its OK for Canadians then it should be OK for Washington, right ?

  29. Awkward!
