    1. Plastic guns are on Trudeau’s illegal list are they not?
I’ll guarantee you if you went to the downtown of any major center in this country and asked if plastic guns should be made illegal you’d have a majority say yes. Not because they think they should be but because they think that is the right answer.

    2. Never even winged Han Solo! Hahaha ha ha Even after about 5 sequels.

Ya know, I constantly hear about “community policing” in the darker “urban” zones of big cities. Where the kinder-gentler PO-leece get to “know” the people on their street and on their beat. Well … it’s obvious that brand of “community policing” hasn’t made it to Canada. Any self-respecting cop would have rolled up on this GIRL … asked to see her kewl-looking blaster, said have a nice day and rolled on.

WTF is WRONG with your snowflake Canadian police? They keep you “safe” from costume Star Wars blasters … but not from mass murderers?

  1. That guy filming missed his opportunity to call the pig what he is. A Jack boot fascist!

  2. In Justin Trudeau’s Canada, the police take down a “Star Wars Stormtrooper with a Toy Blaster in a show of absolute power. Trudeau’s totalitarian utopia gains followers with it’s capriciousness use of absolute power. It is a temptation some can’t resist.

They feel safe in knowing, that Premier Jason Kenny will not lead Albertans out of the House of Bondage to live free in their own home and native land of Alberta. They know they don’t even risk being rebuked for their calumny.

    1. Police forces across the west (of civilization, not canada) have adjusted their screening practices over the last 25 years to produce exactly this type of cop. Police training all follows a very similar curriculum, that is why we are seeing such similar abuse of power and process at all layers of law enforcement.

True, this has happened in the past, but it was never considered normal police practice. After all, in the olden days a lone cop actually enforcing the law with the real baddies had to be able to trust the law respecting citizens around him and vice versa. Now they come in swarms and respect nothing but covering their own asses under the guise of protecting yours. Funny how protecting your ass all to often involves yours being in a body bag for what used to be handled with a common sense talk and literal slap across the face.

      1. Before they get to training they are nearly all given the same standard apptitude test. The test was produced by a private company and designed by psychologists.

The test is basically looking for two things:

A high degree of respect for hierarchical authority. This is actually supposed to weed out applicants on a power trip. Respect for hierarchical authority means that they not only expect people of a lower rank (the people they call “civilians”) to obey their orders without question, but to take orders from those they perceive of higher rank without question.

Enough intelligence to follows orders without screwing them all up, but not so intelligent that they can analyze the order. Not outright stupid, but not much brighter than average to maybe a bit dim.

In my area an officer with ten years on the force was fired because he got a masters degree in criminology. The actual reason given is that they were afraid that his duties would be impaired by an understanding and thus, perhaps, have some empathy, of the people he was interacting with.

In the Old Family Home Town an applicant was rejected for scoring too high on the IQ portion of the test.

These two events are what set me looking into how police officers are selected these days. The latter case also came to the attention of Michael Moore who did a couple of short subjects on it. Yeah, I know, but even a blind pig can find an acorn now and again.

A quick and dirty search turned up this article about it:

        https://thefreethoughtproject.com/court-police-departments-refuse-hire-smart/

        1. That also seems to be the case for hiring airport security. Many of the ones I encountered at the Edmonton Airport didn’t strike me as being candidates for Mensa membership.

      1. What is not fake in Canada are the many unemployed moose, elk, bear and deer waiting along our hi ways in hope of becoming your new hood ornament.

        1. In Alberta, it is my understanding one calls the local game warden or near offer, and then one can take the carcass home or to the nearest abattoir. A lot of people had that number handy just in case.

  3. Petty, capricious thuggery from start to end. Obviously innocent person gets brutalized, her face smashed because they knew they could get away with it and they love doing it.

They handcuff her for no reason whatsoever and keep her handcuffed when they already know she had a toy not a gun.

Around 2:28 a piece of excrement with a SiG patrol rifle (when cops carry them they are patrol riffles not assault style weapons) demands the citizen reporter stays back and threatens him with arrest. The reporter is in fact staying back and the subhuman in blue is approaching the reporter not the other way around.

Around 3:21 another thuggish moment. The pieces of excrement know they are being filmed so they park their truck to block the view.

    Note the CBC language here:
“…carrying what turned out to be a fake firearm…”
No, you worthless demagogue, she was carrying what obviously was a costume prop. She was dressed as a Star Wars character in front of a Star Wars store.

“Police officers in Lethbridge, Alta., are being investigated … ”
Cops investigate cops and decide cops did nothing wrong.

She is lucky she did not get murdered in cold blood. That too would be investigated and cops would be found not at fault.

    Jackbooted thugs one and all.

    1. “Around 2:28 a piece of excrement with a SiG patrol rifle (when cops carry them they are patrol riffles not assault style weapons) ”

Never concede to their semantic shenanigans or you have lost, make them live by their own rules. It is an “assault rifle, designed for one purpose only”. And with the standard capacity magazines, and quite possibly select fire, it is far closer to military grade weaponry than anything owned by law abiding Canadians.

      1. Besides our military bases, I would guess the largest concentration of actual prohibited military assault rifles would be on and or near Parliament Hill. In the fall there was a domestic shooting a mile away in downtown Ottawa and minutes later the Parliamentary Protective Services (not the RCMP) had their AR’s in hand.

Irony and hypocrisy rolled into one shit sandwich.

  4. Too bad the first guy filming her walking around didn’t stick around another 60 seconds. He realized she was not interested in him at all, and wasn’t going to get a date. His video of the beginning of the police over reaction would have been really, really interesting.

The police investigators will determine that everything was by the police officers was done in accordance with acceptable police practices, and that terrorizing innocent people is good policy. The police were faced with an unknown potentially very dangerous threat in movie prop body armor, and carrying a well known movie prop weapon in the empty and unpopulated parking lot of a restaurant in broad daylight on the forty-something anniversary of the movie opening. Then after she dropped the weapon, they realized the perpetrator was a scared woman. That is obviously more dangerous than dealing with domestic disputes, traffic stops on roads at night, or investigating a potential burglary in progress.

I have lost any respect I had for the police while growing up. My decade old method of dealing with any LEO is to keep my hands in sight on the wheel, always show them a neutral expression, and answer any questions as briefly as possible. Last time I said a pleasant greeting, he immediately became suspicious and hostile. If it is the FBI, my only answer will be that my lawyer will be happy to arrange an interview, and that I will say nothing until I consult my attorney.

  5. Okay, some points to note…

Yes, they were stupid and far too heavy-handed. Instead of trying to make her lie down, I’d have first made her take the helmet off, slowly and carefully. That would have changed things a bit, seeing she was a young woman. But then again, I also know (not from personal experience, I’m happy to add) that an outfit like that does NOT allow for free movement…

BUT, carrying replica weapons in public IS an offence here in Australia as well, and this was in Canada, not the U.S., where some of the laws are similar, and where the larger firearms are easier to obtain. It’s an offence because the average person has no idea the weapon isn’t real; and in this case, neither did the Police initially. In the U.S., depending on which State she was in, she’d have either gotten a high-five or a bullet!!! The proper way to do this would have been for the restaurant owner to notify the Police first, and maybe get a permit or something. That way, any passing patrols would have been briefed; hell, they might have even joined in…! Police can be scifi nuts too; several of the ones I worked with were…

Moreover, they just had what 20 people killed by a guy dressed as a MOUNTIE… And I bet they all got a lecture about making incorrect assumptions without verification from the Powers That Be. They weren’t going to make that mistake again (not that they did in that case, but they’d have gotten a savaging about it all the same). So, they see someone fully dressed in impact armour and carrying what looks like a riot gun, and you think they over-reacted?!

Well, I don’t… Yes, it could have been handled better; but by EVERYONE involved…

    1. There is nothing illegal about carrying an unloaded rifle in public. It could be been real and she would be breaking no law in Canada.

      1. It is sort off gray matter. Yes* you can theoretically transport an unloaded unrestricted firearm very much in the open. Sort off. Nobody does it in an urban area. But you’re right there is, as best as I can tell, no specific law against that. The laws are different for transporting restricted firearms, these have to be double locked, and unloaded with ammo separate from the gun. However, what she carried was neither a restricted firearm nor an unrestricted firearm, it was a painfully obvious Sci-Fi movie prop a child’s toy that does not look like a gun anymore than a toy light saber looks like a real sword.

They knew from the start this was not a gun. But decided to teach her a lesson anyway, humiliate and hurt her just to demonstrate that none will challenge their power. Lucky this time they were filmed. There are countless similar cases of daily power tripping jackbooted thugs that go unreported.

*Not a legal advice check for yourselves.

    2. Shut the hell up, Cops are supposed to be able to assess a situation in seconds and respond appropriately. It should be fundamental to a job where you are extremely likely to be called on to shoot people dead.

These cops clearly COULD NOT assess the situation. If you cannot tell what is going on with a someone in stormtrooper uniform then you should NOT be a cop, PERIOD.

Do NOT denigrate the memory of the victims in NS by making a comparison here. There is no comparison. There was absolutely NOTHING done wrong by a free restauranteer, with a free employee, in a free country. Wake the hell up!

      1. Totally agreed. We hear of cops being dismissed all the time for wrongful shootings, or at least sent back to the academy for remedial training. Every single one of these officers should be given 6-mos. no pay … sent back to the academy for remedial training … busted down in rank and pay to Rookie police officer … and … the most Senior of all the police officers onsite should be dismissed for not immediately breaking up this shitshow of police jackboot tactical bullshit and telling each one of these officers to go do something productive.

That’s what I would recommend if I were serving on the local city council. I would do everything possible to humiliate this pathetic display, by humiliating each one of these officers.

BTW … sorry my Canadian friends, but I had to look up Lethbridge. Looks like a nice place on the river there doncha know?

        1. “Every single one of these officers should… productive.”

You’re extremely gentle with the punishment you propose. For the punishment to be just books would have to be rewritten extensively…. every time a representative of the state (not just a cop) abuses their authority the punishment should be severe publicly administered and not easily forgettable.

        2. These morons simply went to Lethbridge Community College and took a two year Law Enforcement programme. Complete booger eating morons with absolutely no people handling skills. Lethbridge is small enough that everyone will know who they are too.

      2. Frenchie77 said: “These cops clearly COULD NOT assess the situation. If you cannot tell what is going on with a someone in stormtrooper uniform then you should NOT be a cop, PERIOD. ”

No, it is actually much worse than that I’m afraid. They put the girl on the ground and bloodied her nose -after- they already knew the prop was a plastic toy.

They already knew it was a bogus gun call. They knew when they arrived and saw a kid in a plastic costume it was bogus. And they went right ahead and did the whole gun-call dance anyway. The girl is lucky they didn’t taser her to the ground.

Its official policy. This is what they’ll do every single time, and it will not matter if it is a six year old girl in a fairy costume with a pink squirt gun.

You are in much more danger as an innocent person facing the police than you are facing random thugs. Much more.

The only question that remains is will Canadians continue to put up with this? Or will we start cutting police budgets so ferociously that they stop? You cut their budgets in half a couple of years in a row, and they -will- comply.

Tax cuts can fix a lot of things, not just your paycheck problem.

        1. “No, it is actually much worse than that I’m afraid. They put the girl on the ground and bloodied her nose -after- they already knew the prop was a plastic toy.”

          Bingo!

“You are in much more danger as an innocent person facing the police than you are facing random thugs. Much more.”

Exactly, jackbooted thugs one and all. By definition, selection, training and procedure.

    3. Quit making excuses for these thugs. If citizens are expected to rely on the police, certain behavior is incumbent upon the police, and these thugs did not exercise that behavior. She was such a threat that violence was called for, but they felt secure enough to walk away and get in an SUV to prevent filming. This is what we are supposed to rely on, the day after Trudeau illegally bans a bunch of guns by Order in Council*

If seeing it was a young lady changes anything about their behavior, then that is wrong. Also, on some of the videos circulating you can here her voice and tell it is a frightened girl, and she is telling them she can not get down because she has restricted mobility due to the costume.

Police recruiting idea. Every applicant has to submit a handwritten 50 page essay on Sir Robert Peele as the first step of recruiting, and a 100 page essay on the same as the final step. They always say they have a lot of paperwork, best to get used to it.

      * Acording to Viva Frei, a Montreal lawyer on youtube in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsrGbf_IkFw The legislation allowing order in council bans, prohibits them from banning what they believe has a legitimate hunting purpose, and the order in council has a specific exemption for native hunters, therefore they believe there is a legitimate hunting purpose.

      1. Facts are facts on Orders in Council – the government will use them however they see fit. Why not? – even if somebody does sue them, they know who the courts will side with.

Bit of history. When Dim Campbell was Lyin’ Brian’s Justice Minister, she passed a gun law that banned a lot of guns – the NFA has the gun catalogue she and her cronies used, they basically went through, circled anything scary-looking and banned them. She did it by Order in Council, there – Canadian Law!

The NFA took ’em all to the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench and threw them all out. Little Kim didn’t follow government regulations for Orders in Council – OiC’s were brought-in as a war measures act for when things are happening too fast for Parliament to respond, and an OiC must be before both Houses for 30 sitting days. Li’l Dimmie didn’t do this – she rubber-stamped ’em and hung ’em on the wall.

Well, the gummint considered appealing, because “when we say “regulations”, we don’t REALLY mean regulations…” And all the despoilers – the miners, the loggers, the property developers – and their slick-soled Bay Street lawyers – sat up, rubbing their hands in glee: “Oh really? Then what about your regulations governing the use of Crown Land?” So the gummint dropped it; besides, the LIE-berals were about to get back in, and little Johnny Cretin had already announced “Dere will be TOUGH NEW GUN LAWS!” So Allan Rock confirmed all Dim Campbell’s OiC’s, and added a bunch of his own – all of which he rubber-stamped and hung on the wall.

Bottom line – if you’ve been following the RestoreCSA issue on these pages, you’ll have seen that our gummint’s response to anything of this nature is, “Yes, we know the regulations say this must be done, but we’re not going to do it. So there – make us!” And Little Potato just demonstrated he’s happy to steal Canadians’ property whenever he feels like pandering for votes, even when it makes no sense and won’t help – after all, “assault-style weapons” have been used in one crime in Canada, and that one was stolen. But clearly they’re so big a problem that he’s prepared to throw a $billion of taxpayer dollars at them, because reasons; and being in a minority and unsure if it will fly, he’s just gonna’ assume dictatorial powers – nobody will mind, even though he tried that once already with Treasury Board and got told to sit back down. He’s SMARTER than us and KNOWS what we all really need – can’t we SEE THAT?!

Oh and, these things are really expensive, and a $billion won’t cover very much of very many of them; but they’ve already declared that “they” will determine fair market value for our confiscated firearms, and “we” will have no recourse. Thanks a lot, daddy Trudeau – it was you who changed the Canadian legal focus from British Manorial Law to the French system, whereby everything belongs to the State and they’re just letting us use it. Hope the next gummint comes for your canoe.

    4. Dis

“replica” …?? A star wars blaster.?
      BULLSHIT.
“..average person has no idea the weapon isn’t real..”
      BULLSHIT.

Anyone with a 10th of the intelligence shown by the cops and walking by could have seen this was simply a prop….It does not even resemble any know weapon on the planet.

This bunch of low IQ thugs do not deserve to be called “Police Officers”.
Suggest you Go kiss NAZI thugs somewhere else buddy.

  6. Those cops should be assigned to a security detail at the next Comicon.

  7. A low IQ + cowardice + loaded weapons + huge power gets you this result or worse, over and over and over again.

The snitch who called this in was probably given thanks and told to always report every single suspicious thing with haste.

    1. The snitch who dropped the dime on the stormtrooper was obviously a Trekkie from down the road at Vulcan.

  8. What is with the Police in this country? To serve and protect means the law abiding public, not themselves and their political masters.
They think everyone is a criminal. Everything is a crime, except when its isn’t, depending on what status card they carry, the colour of their skin and the god they worship. Canada is an apartheid country.

    1. Until the shutdown, I encountered that type of behaviour at the security check at the Edmonton Airport.

    2. The mindset of those who work in criminal justice.

      WE are all considered:
“…Non convicted Individuals Residing in the Community..”
As stated by a Police type person – guest on the Joe Green Radio Show back in 2006-7

  9. So, do they get a campaign medal for that?

    The Galaxy medal:

Suspended on a ribbon azure with a yellow stripe; a copper disc engraved with a flaming anal ring surmounting the motto “Anus Maximus”. On the obverse a penis, limp, wearing a stahlhelm

  10. I think it reflects our heightened state of paranoia. It’s the new normal.

    1. Yep, paranoia for sure.
Heightened emotions of all manner I would add.
Excess emotion on display most everywhere.

  11. Canada: a nation of Karens, run by a wannabe Mussolini and policed by violent thugs.

And people wonder why I tell them I don’t give a flying f*ck about Canada and Canadians any more, and bitterly regret the 31 years I spent serving this moronic country in the CF. The sooner Canada breaks up and we haul down Pearson’s rag for the last time, the better.

    1. Same story and same sentiment. I don’t regret my service. Service is its own reward. I regret it meant nothing. Tommy this and Tommy that….

      1. and kick him out! The Brute!
But its hero of his country
when the guns begin to shoot!

        1. “And it’s Tommy this and Tommy that and anything you please,
And Tommy ain’t a bloomin’ fool – you bet that Tommy sees!”

  12. These police officers needs a couple weeks off with no pay, retaining and testing before there allowed back on the street .
A friend grand son 17, bought a pellet gun with his first job . He went to a field with no one around with a couple empty milk
jugs . He set them up as targets and was shooting at them . Some one seen this and called cops the quick reaction force showed
up pointing AR at him . The kid was thrown on the ground fined over 1000 dollars. Maybe a better way would have been for cop
to walk out there and tell him he can’t practice in this area . Even if it was a high power rifle and he was shooting at empty milk jugs the reaction should have been the same. Go there and talk to him and find out whats going on. Until that gun is used in criminal manner that should be the reaction. If these police officers can’t see this for what it is there in the wrong line of work. If there being trained this way then this needs to be addressed some sort of common sense needs to be used.

  13. It has gone worldwide – made it to the Daily Mail in the UK, for example. Read the comments – almost universal contempt.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8291163/Employee-dressed-Star-Wars-stormtrooper-held-gunpoint-police-mistake-blaster-gun.html

But it will pale in comparison when the cops in Newfoundland trot out their new powers.

    https://thepostmillennial.com/n-l-police-receive-powers-to-enforce

Again, another illiberal Liberal regime – they just can’t help themselves as “We will save you from yourselves, children, because we are superior and you need a minder – personal rights be damned”.

    1. “The officers eventually realized that her blaster was fake. ”

Is there actually a real blaster?

I thought Star Wars movie was a movie with a lot of special effects.

      Heh.

The RCMP are a Canadian joke. They are up to it when its silly, real crime is an afterthought or maybe too dangerous to tackle. Better stay inside.

      1. Fun fact: all the guns in Star Wars are actually surplus WWII prop guns with greeblies glued on them. The Stormtrooper blaster is a tarted up Sterling SMG.

    2. From your second article:
“The law protects inspectors, lawmakers, the chief medical officer, peace officers and more from personal liability.”
Let that sink in, words fail me. A low life piece of shit that at the best of times. The state is explicitly telling those thugs that now is the time to act out all of their occupation force fantasies.

  14. Can I predict the results of the internal “investigation?”

The police performed exactly as expected and are to be commended for their actions. In fact we are recommending them for a medal for beating up a girl with a toy gun.

      1. My email inspired by Al in Ottawa’s good practical advice. I’m sure many here will do a much better job.

Regarding recent video of Lethbridge police taking down a teenage girl in a star wars costume:

Thankfully this video has gone viral.

To say it does not show some members of your force in a good light is a massive understatement.

I look forward to hearing from you,  at your earliest opportunity as to how this outrageous behaviour will be addressed.

Sincerely hoping a platitude filled generic reply will not be headed my way.

        Regards,

  15. Late to the game here…as usual.
What an embarrassment. These are from the same police force that ran over a deer several times to kill it. Now they beat up a 19 year old girl. Meanwhile, just a few blocks away, heroin and meth are being openly consumed.
Once, I had to deal with a meth head at my place of business. Took the cops 30 minutes to get there and three of them had to show up, with their guns, tasers, pepper spray and flak jackets. All I had was four inches of belly fat to protect me.
Of course, if you are going 5k over the speed limit, they are the most efficient police force on the planet.
Great to see the home town getting international attention once again:
    F-18 crash
    Marilyn Manson assaulted
Busiest safe injection site in North America
Cops run over deer to euthanize it
Cops beat up a girl in a costume

Chris (embarrassed to be) in the Bridge

    1. Chris, great comment!

Perhaps some of it could be shared with lpc per Al’s suggestion above.

  16. It took 12 hours for the cops to take down an actual shooter. It took them 5 minutes to take down a 19 year old girl with a plastic blaster in a suit that made her incapable of moving or seeing properly. Great work guys. I feel so good about giving up my rifles and putting myself under your protection.

  17. “ran over a deer several times to kill it.”

The assholes couldn’t pull out a gun and shoot the frigging deer in the brain but they all pulled their guns on a kid in a costume with a plastic gun. I guess she can thank her lucky stars they didn’t run over her ten times like the poor screaming deer.

  18. Anyone spot the irony on how police went above and beyond the call on a 19 yr old girl trying to keep her job by dressing up in a Halloween costume vs someone in a full body covering burka who could be either sex or even concealing something more potent than a plastic toy prop? Definite double standard along cultural divides. Shows how little the word “Equal” means in the toilet paper Charter of Rights. I would have liked to see a 6ft 6″ Chewbakka present to even the odds a little bit.

    1. In Lethbridge, Chewbacca gets driven over by the police van (over and over again).
In my former work, I needed the police to remove people on occasion. If certain demographics were represented, you could have measured the response time with a sundial. Though when a firearm was suspected, they were there quickly.

I find it difficult to believe that they didn’t figure it out that it was May 4th, in front of a business decorated in sci-fi genre and a plastic stormtrooper outfit. Glad the poor girl was not hurt any more than a bloody nose. It certainly does not enhance the LPS reputation but at least they are consistent.

    1. Truth hurts.
I’ve worked with police for over 30+ years. I’ve seem some jerks and good ones, but if you are not smart enough to notice it’s a fake weapon. You really should look for another job.
The public is NOT safe, when officers don’t not use that large mass between there eyes.

    2. Canada is well on its way to being the world’s first testosterone-free country!
      Soy up,eh!

  19. I think there’s a direct correlation between bad police behavior and how they’re depicted in Hollywood/media. Not to mention how they’ve convinced everyone how dangerous their job is despite not even making the top ten, at least in Canada, along with getting everything they want at budget time and a union that can circle the wagons around one of their own that makes teachers look like pikers and you’ve got a class of untouchables who get to play with their toys whenever they’re bored and public perception be damned.

I’m old enough to remember Toronto Police Union boss Craig Brommell admitting to Adrienne Clarkson on the TV’s Fifth Estate how he sicced on duty officers to follow Olivia Chow around at night (to get dirt on her) only because she was on the TPSB and thought the TPS needed to be reined in. Shows what can happen to ya if you get on their bad side.
More stunning yet – No pushback from Clarkson.

Anyways. We created this Frankenstein so we only have ourselves to blame.

  20. When I first heard about this, I thought it was someone dressed as a NAZI storm trooper, and had something to do with some Aryan Brotherhood white supremacist.
It turns out to be a fangirl in a fantasy costume. Give me a break.

  21. So let’s look at it like this…

I put on a Halloween mask and grab a toy gun and go wandering around in public. 100% chance someone calls 911 about someone in a costume with a gun.

The police show up having NO idea what they’re showing up for – the information they are acting on is that someone in a mask has a gun.

They show and ask me to drop the gun. I do. They ask me to get on the ground. I do not. They ask me again. I do not. They ask me again. I do not. They ask me again. I do not. They ask me again. I finally get on my knees, not fully on the ground. They ask me again to get on the ground. I do not. They ask me again. I do not. They ask me again. Finally I get on the ground as they asked me 6 or 7 times ago.

At this point I’m still wearing a mask – they have no idea who I am. Could be a 19 year old girl, could be a tweaked out meth head with warrants, could be a terrorist with bombs strapped to my belt.

So now that I’m on the ground (still masked) after refusing to comply with several requests. What do you think should happen now?

Police should just drive away? “OK, the guy ignored the first 7 requests to get on the ground and he’s still wearing a mask so we have no idea who he is… but the gun looks fake. OK good enough, no need for further investigation!”

Of course not – they have a job to do, and they need to do it in the safest manner possible. If they get a call about someone with a gun, they need to search that person to make sure they don’t have a gun. They need to verify their identity (especially when they’re wearing a mask). Before they leave, they HAVE to do their due diligence. Could they see that the gun on the ground is probably a toy? Absolutely. Could they be 100% sure? Not without examining it. Could they be 100% sure the suspect wasn’t a danger? Absolutely not, they had no idea who it was. Could they be 100% sure the suspect didn’t have other concealed weapons on them? Nope, not without searching them. On a call like this they need to be 100% sure.

Now put yourself in the cop’s shoes – you’re responding to a call about someone with a firearm, the suspect is wearing a mask and is not being very cooperative. Would you take the risk of NOT cuffing that suspect? Would you risk your life and your fellow officers’ lives? With hindsight we know this was a girl doing promo work – in the span of seconds / minutes when this was going down the police did not know that.

They didn’t shoot her, they didn’t tase her, they didn’t tackle her, they didn’t kick her, they didn’t punch her, they didn’t rough her up, they didn’t arrest her… I don’t think they even swore at her. They cuffed her, searched her, questioned her, and released her. Yet I’m seeing comments on here that she was “brutalized”??

    1. It would have to be a really stupid person not to realize what was happening. A person that stupid is unfit to be a police officer. They threatened to kill a kid dressed in a costume so obvious that anyone other than an effing retard should have known what was going on. All the police hire today are cowards and girls. I would have walked up to her and asked, “What’s happening?” I was trained how to take out machine guns not be a chickenshit coward. Have they even thought about training police?

    2. The police today see themselves as being apart from society; not part of it. Their jobs are not to “serve and protect” but to “keep em in line.” Why should she, or anyone, have to get on the ground? Why should they be 100% sure that she, or anyone else is not a danger? She had done nothing wrong. They should be 100% certain of their need to draw fatal weaponry. This was pure thuggery.

    3. Not that long ago, the Ottawa cops once asked a lady in the wee hours of the morning where she was going. (It was home.) She told them it was none of their business. She was arrested and jailed and stripped search … for walking down the sidewalk.
      Go fuck yourself.

    4. Markinedmonton, you are defending the assault and battery of random citizens for not following police instructions fast enough to suit you.

What if she’s got a back brace because of a spinal disk injury and can’t bend at the waist? What if she’s deaf and can’t hear you screaming like some form of demented serial killer? WHAT IF SHE’S GERMAN and doesn’t speak “get down on the ground with your hands on your head”? Hmm?

What if she’s a 19 year old girl who is at work, doing what she was hired to do, and has never had a gun pointed at her before in her short life? She’s confused, frozen with fear, and wearing the boss’s prized and very expensive storm trooper costume which she doesn’t want to break.

She’s not following instructions being screamed at her by cops who already know the gun is a plastic toy. They’re still following the book when they shouldn’t be.

You know what? Police need to use their DISCRETION when they get to an incident, and not blindly follow standard operating procedure. This is Canada, a free country. We don’t drop and hug the ground here on demand, that’s not how it works.

You know what else? Being a policeman is dangerous work. Stuff happens. People die. That’s the job. You don’t get to take it out on the rest of us because you are the mutant who took the cop job, Mark. Go work at McDonalds if you don’t want to take the risk.

    5. “Now put yourself in the cop’s shoes”

Can’t do that, shoes will not fit. I have a big penis and high IQ.

      “ – you’re responding to a call about someone with a firearm, “

You determine it is not a firearm and leave laughing at the stupidity of Karen that made a call. That is all, end of the story. Maybe go to a Kren’s house and caution her about filling a false police report.
      She is not a suspect.
Cop safety was not in danger but more importantly cop safety is NOT I important.
      At all.
This is the only occupation in the world when so little qualification and so low IQ is rewarded with so much pay and security. So, yes safety is not important. If you’re not feeling safe find another job where your talents are appreciated. If all goes well, you can become a tow truck driver and steal people’s cars for ransom, if not then maybe you can become a male prostitute if not that, maybe there is future for you in bum fights. There isn’t much more a cop can do.

“Could they see that the gun on the ground is probably a toy? Absolutely. Could they be 100% sure? Not without examining it. “

Then politely, smiling, with no aggression. with your sidearm in the holster, your hand away from it and your Rambo gear in the trunk approach her, exchange a few sentences ask if you can take a look at the toy. And on the extremely minimal chance that she is areal stormtrooper with the real blaster… tough luck. There is no reason for you to get to behave like an occupation force just in case. You pass by mooselimbs covered with terrorist attire and portable tents, (God only knows what is underneath those) all the time and you can’t even verify their ID. And yet you live with that despite the fact that mooselimbs killed many more people than Imperials.

      “…they didn’t rough her up,…”

Sure she bloodied her face herself, for fun. She was crying not from pain when they were twisting her arms but pout of excitement.

The ONLY reason they did not beat the shit out of her is because they knew they were being filmed. They tried of course to intimidate the reporter and obscure the view as much as possible. There is a reason why those thugs consistently oppose body cameras.

P.S. did I mention that people who defend cops are typically as worthless as cops themlseves? They are. But sometimes they’re even more worthless.

      1. So why did the police bring up a truck to block everyone’s view?

Simple, they goofed and knew it. So lets hide from the general public and cameras, cause they knew they were in the wrong. EGO got the best of them.

    6. Sure thing mark In Edmonton.
Even though the article clearly states ,the suit don’t bend that way,so her ability to “Get on the Ground” is damn near nill unassisted and the helmet blocks hearing and vision..
Nor that the Cops reaction is idiotic in the extreme..
Failure to comply..Yup all her fault.
As for the “Weapon” well the cops training must be really impressive that they can see a weapon in a piece of plastic junk..
One cop making all these errors and assumptions might be excusable…three and more is just stunningly idiotic.
Yes the situation was “out of control”,on the police side only.
Video shows, after one of them examines the “weapon” they carry on..

  22. I wonder if it’s the same Lethbridge cop that repeatedly ran over that deer a few years ago. Wonderful judgement being shown by these blue idiots.

I am more infuriated by the stupid busy-bodies who called 911.

    1. We used to have one of those “Karen” types next door. Kids across the alley were shooting paper targets with BB guns. In their own high fenced-in yard, no less. She had the f’n SWAT and Hawks helicopter show up. She was the type that figured her Sh*t was air freshener. So happy when the bank foreclosed and kicked her out.
