The First American Prime Minister, At The Ice Hockey Game

We get mail!

Kate, this probably will not be in the media tomorrow about the American Count Iggy'

He attended an Ontario Hockey league play-off game in Mississauga, Ontario tonight, there were about 4000 fans from Niagara and Mississauga present in the arena. He was introduced to the fans, waved, bowed etc. and was booed by the whole crowd for over two minutes. We are not sure how long he stayed at the game afterwards. Mississauga according to the media is supposed to be a Liberal stronghold !!!.

Well, it's been reported by Open Ice Hockey reporter Nathan Dearing. Over at the Ignatieff campaign bus, the big media tweeters remained silent.

Update - Well, here's a brand new Canadian Press story on the game. No Liberal leaders reported in attendance.

Morning Update - Confirmation from the V.P. Marketing of the Mississauga St. Mike's Majors ...

And this absolute howler from CP reporter Steve Rennie, traveling with the Ignatieff campaign.

Final Update: Now being covered by SunTV, captured to youtube by SDAMatt!

Now being carried by CTV and CBC. SDA gets results!

Iggy is staring into an abyss.
The compliant media bubble I believe is protecting Iggy not out of liberal bias, but because they don't want to be blamed for the trainwreck.

I'm pretty sure that the game was televised on Rogers Ch 10 (according to brief web search). Any chance that Mississauga Matt taped it? :-)

So if Don Cherry had a team at the polls Ig would be in fourth place?

Watched a video on cbc of him in a hospita. It seems he's no longer preening , like a horny duck.

Posted by: cantuc at April 23, 2011 11:25 PM

Ouch, that's gotta sting. That, combined with the more recent polling data gives me cautious optimism.

Posted by: Colin from Mission B.C. at April 23, 2011 11:28 PM

Iggy claims the NDP spending plan is "science fiction". Pot and kettle I guess. The more desperate he gets, the more I am looking forward to him labeling Layton and his gang "Marxists". At least he would be telling the truth. Read the preamble to the NDP constitution.

Posted by: Ham at April 23, 2011 11:36 PM

Iggy probably got the idea from seeing PMSH do the CBC interview in a hockey rink. Problem is Harper looks natural in a hockey jacket, which he is. Iggy, not so much, maybe cricket is more his cup of tea.

There's *got* to be some video out there. Keep checking Youtube! I searched the following;

Nice, Martin. :)

Posted by: soundofmusak at April 23, 2011 11:40 PM

This situation is rather like Paul Martin showing up at the 2006 Grey Cup in Vancouver, and being booed so loudly by the sell-out crowd, that the CBC had to dial down the sound.

Posted by: James at April 23, 2011 11:42 PM

I really missed Paul Martin's strained "I just shat myself" grin that he always wears. It was nice seeing him again. Reminded me of a pending conservative victory.

Posted by: soundofmusak at April 23, 2011 11:45 PM

James @ 11:42

I was there and you are not kidding about the volume of the boos from the crowd! There was a couple in front of us from Edmonton and I thought the woman was going to jump onto the field to get in a kick at Martin. It certainly was a memorable day :))

Personally, I think all politicians should be booed at public events at which they have no relevance. We elect them to manage the finances, maintain the highways and secure the borders; not interrupt our free time with their egos.

Chrisinmanitoba; Do you not remember Katsmeat Kinsella getting a big belly laugh amoungst Lieberals and the Olivers of the corrupt MSM while wearing a Barney suit making fun of a Good Man Stockwell Day. Well I do, and any thing that these stinking lying lieberals get thrown at them is not enough. They are, and have been thieves liars and cheats, ever since Pearson, and having had many street fights, you just don't feel sorry for the dick that picked the fight with ya, you get as mean as you can to kick his ass. BHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!

We should organize mock funerals all across this country.

Just remember, when a crowd of people boo a journalist at a political rally, that is news (national news!), but when a political leader is booed at a hockey game during an election campaign, that is silence. Especially when the leader is Liberal, but I am sure other commenters will tell me that I am imagining the Liberal bias of our mainstream media.

I guess we'll have to see if anyone actually reports this as news. I am not going to hold my breath!

Maybe it's better that no journalists will admit this happened. People from the game will talk about it and they will say that it was censored by the media ...

Sometimes I wonder how many journalists really believe they are around to influence public opinion as opposed to reporting events. Maybe they misbelieve in their own credibility. Thankfully journalists don't choose governments.

Didn't Mississauga go almost solidly CPC last election?

By this point it surely must be clear to even the thickest skulls in the party that Liberal policies are not popular any more. You can blame Count Iggula for being a bad leader, but that doesn't explain Ontario turfing the Liberals last election, and particularly the GTA voting in Rob Ford.

People are -afraid- now. More spending, more taxes and more multi-culti Greenie goodness isn't selling anywhere except the parts of 416 area code where all the teachers and snivel servants live.

Way to go Mississauga for booing the Count.

Six hours from now nanos releases its Tracking poll from today. There was none on released on good Friday - did they conduct one at all? That poll result - a week away from election eve will be the basis of a lot of strategy decisions by all parties. It will likely set the tone for the remainder of the campaign.

...

Gilles Duceppe doubled-down on the sovereignty issue today - after at least two columnists and presumably many others pinned their massive loss of support to the ndp this past week on precisely that kind of sovereignist retrenchment. Could it be that sounding the taps bugle for sovereignty no longer rouses the quebecois to attention but instead it causes them to desert the post? Obviously duceppe doesnt think so. Perhap its not just the lpc that is yesterday's party.

...

There is an old saying that one always fights the current war based in the circumstances under which the last one was fought and won or lost. The most searing loss that the LPC has suffered this generation was attributed largely to adscam (it wasn't the only reason). Consciously or unconsciously, the party elite felt that it could bring down the CPC using the same ethics meme. Thus use of the trumped-up in contempt vote, the gracious help of elections Canada and a few ethical breeches by staff and perhaps even MPs. IOW, if it worked for the cpc, then by gum, they would do in the CPC in using the same meme. They also had the nearly twenty-year old precedent of the Mulroney serial corruptions that went along way to destroying the PCPC.

But they overlooked one huge difference - a difference that made all of the difference to most canadians: the ethical breeches, such as they were, never involved people successfully lining their own pockets and where there were those who tried - and there will always be those who try - they never got away with it. The system prevented it - either by chance or design.

Thus we had the LPC going to war under circumstances that did not resonate with the general public. And make not doubt about it, correctly or incorrectly, the general public perceived the lpc as being the party that triggered this election - not the NDp or the BQ.

So, two thirds of the way through the election, the lpc is mired in the polls more or less exactly where they have been for almost four years - and organizational atrophy at the local level is beginning to show and cause even safe seats to be in trouble.

At that point the lpc went to defcon1 and abandoned the ethics meme - reverting to the strategy that prevented them being trounced in the past - the scare card - focussed this time primarily on healthcare. But this time around it backfired completely. Left of center supporters became annoyed - perhaps realizing that this was an every man for himself move - that the lpc was failing yet again and they moved their support to the party that they at least respected for its steadfastness albeit a losing steadfastness. Better to go down on a ship that doesnt fly a disgraced, false flag like the lpc does.

Tomorrow the lpc will resort to using a large, cheap ad buy (Easter Sunday afternoon ain't super bowl halftime) to put forth a slap chop style infomercial. It defies logic that that could make a difference. What will they talk about that hasn't already been said already? Last weekend we had the revivalist rise-up exhortations. Will we now see (those who can't find their remotes will maybe see that is...) Jim Bakker tears?

It's difficult to see how the lpc pulls the election up and away from slamming into the carrier deck. Perhaps well crafted ads by the CPC and BQ will rattle enough supporters who had jumped over to the ndp to return to the fold and give the party enough of a vote lift to be at the end of the second of May still with more seats than the BQ and the ND. And finishing third finishes the party - quite likely for ever - certainly for the next eight years.

And it finishes mr ignatieffs term as leader, and the leadership elite and bob Rae and likely Justin trudeau - if he isn't defeated will find a less challenging career path than that of a hood ornament on a BuwickElectra-era party with a rod from the number eight cylinder through the block. And no vote grants to pay for a rebuild either...

Grim prospects indeed for the lpc.

Now if the Edmonton lady mentioned earlier had managed to scale the boards and get a kick in the commentator could've yelled: OLD TIME HOCKEY!!!

Then the colour man could have gone on to ponder if that makes things even between Alberta and the Liberals for the NEP. At this point the play by play man would've just replied: no...

Hope and Fear: Da Bubble is Iggy.

Liberal Count Ignatieff “rattled”.

PET Cemetery pleads/begs: Recall Citoyen Kyoto Dionky.

“The Liberals are rattled by the polls. Some acknowledge the campaign is in save-the-furniture mode, and some privately debate how many seats Ignatieff would have to win to stay on as leader (85 to 100).

But Ignatieff’s team says they have reason to hope that voters will shift back to the Liberals before election day.”

…-

“Mao smear news to Liberal leader

Ignatieff handlers kept story from him”

“On the day after the English leaders’ debate, Sun newspapers across Canada ran a front page photo of Michael Ignatieff with the headline: What the Mao? Ignatieff Channels Chairman.

The Quebecor chain – the largest circulation newspaper group in the country – linked Ignatieff to murderous Chinese dictator Mao Zedong because during the debate, Ignatieff said, “let some flowers bloom here,” calling for greater openness in Canadian democracy.

The Sun suggested Ignatieff was quoting Mao, who famously called for Chinese officials to “let a hundred flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend,” before a brutal crackdown.

When he was informed of the Sun’s headline Saturday in a Halifax interview with The Chronicle Herald, Ignatieff laughed long and hard.

“I missed it,” he said, and laughed again.

“They shield,” he said, referring humorously to his campaign staff who decide what news he sees. “I live in a void.””

"Elections Canada to muzzle Twitter"

"Agency banning tweets regarding riding results before all polls close"

""The Twitterverse is planning to rebel against the ban. There are plans to organize a "tweet-in," with tweeters protesting the ban on May 2 by tweeting results en masse. Then we'll see how many of these "e-slacktivists" actually risk the fine, and what Elections Canada will do about it. Elections Canada, which can't seem to keep accurate voters lists, has been sending voting cards to dead people and noncitizens, and admitted it ran unauthorized special polling stations at the University of Guelph in Ontario, is wasting everyone's time by going after Twitter users. Talk about not having your priorities in order.""

Complete opposite of the 1984 campaign. The press was not friendly toward John "chick" Turner. Chick being his university nickname.

Toward the end of the campaign the boys at the back of the plane were drinking the Liberal provided booze doing impersonations and singing song "chick chick chickee good-bye".

All while Mr Turner and his wife sat within earshot at the front of the plane.

I don't condone either behaviour, the protection or the mocking, both are unprofessional. But I will say if anythign shows the disconnect between the populace and the "watchdogs" it is something like the incident at the game.

I said before this felt Charlottetown like, elits in one place and people in another. This ads to that impression.

Used to hate to leave me
Now after loving me late at night
When it's good for you
And you're feeling all right
Well, you just roll over and turn out the light
And you don't bring me flowers anymore
It used to be so natural to talk about forever
But used-to-be's don't count anymore
They just lay on the floor, till we sweep them away
And baby I remember all the things you taught me
I learned how to laugh and I learned how to cry
Well, I learned how to love I even learned how to lie

"The weapons/daggers/kerpans are found underneath the Sikh turbans."

when the multicul folks pushed to allow kirpans in school (because of course, they're only ceremonial) what is to prevent the class homicidal grade 11 20 year old from knocking the privileged sikh on his ass, take the kirpan, use on someone else? voila!! no need for the hoodlum to sneak a weapon past aaaaaaaall that security.

I never did get an answer.

Let's speak the UNspeakable - Mississauga has been Liberal for years ONLY because Mississauga is VERY HEAVILLY ethnic in it's population of Pakistanis / Wackistanis, Indians, Chinese, etc. etc. but Mississauga HOCKEY FANS are native-born white Canadians, and their patron saint is Don Cherry, no girly-man weenie boy American Liberal he!

Like others have said, it's now so obvious that Iggy is crashing and burning that I almost (but only almost) feel sorry for HIM but I will never be able to feel sorry for the Liberal Party.

Posted by: Davers6 at April 24, 2011 10:03 AM

It looks like the MSM has gone silent on the Lieberals, but on the other hand, have been pumping Taliban Jack every chance they get. The way they carry on about TJ, you would think he was a front runner in this election ... and not a 3rd choice afterthought. The MSM strategy this election seems to be 'anyone but Harper'.

Watch for that little twit Trudeau ... you know the substitute teacher whose entire life's experience was visiting Fidel Castro with his Marxist father. In desperation, the Liberals will roll him out next time around. He is one quarter French so he will get the pass.

I am sorry the crowd booed -- as that's just being mean-spirited and rude; it shows our society's increasing lack of civility towards one another. I will never boo for Ignatieff, Duceppe, Layton, or May, even though I detest their politics and their underhanded tactics. Neither would I clap for them. I'd remain silent if they showed up at an event I was at. (At least I hope I would!)

However, having said that, what a shot in the arm for "our side"!!! I have a feeling there are quite a few secret (and not-so-secret) CPC supporters out there, many who won't admit to voting CPC but who will in the end.

The Chaotic Coalition is crazy and dangerous; we've seen how they'd perform in the HOC in the leadership debates. These guys aren't leaders, they're members of a cabal of entitled, self-righteous, bullying Leftards, who would spend Canada into the poor house in a nano-second. (What hypocrites: They slam PM Harper and his party for overspending but forced him to overspend by criticizing his not spending enough. As per usual, PM Harper and the CPC are damned if they do and damned if they don't with this crowd.

Yea, poor Iggy will lose the election then take a long exotic vacation then settle back into the highbrow Harvard club, plotting the fall of your society via Marxism.

Don't shed a tear; this is what keeps the animals out - since they took our guns away to do it by force afterwards.

Posted by: Knight 99 at April 24, 2011 10:46 AM

That booing was restrained. You want to know what real booing is, check a Philly Flyers crowd. They would boo Santa Claus and the Easter bunny. Count Iggy got off lightly.

People were there for a hockey game. They were not there to be unwilling props for an Iggy photo op. They were right to boo him and I hope they would boo any campaigning politician who tried to use them in that way.

Posted by: JMD at April 24, 2011 10:46 AM

minuteman: "I hate Iggy, but that is just plain rude." It is rude, but crowds are spontaneous and do not necessarily follow rules of etiquette. For Iggy, perhaps, a lesson in humility.

Posted by: LindaL at April 24, 2011 10:46 AM

You gotta remember batb when The annointed one Barack, was spending "stimulus", Taliban Jack and Iggy got all jiggy and screamed at Harper to spend "stimulus", that I disagreed with but at least it went to roads and sewage lagoons and treatment plants, and not Saddledomes and Rexall Places like the little theif from Shawinigan spent it on last time. Just think where a coalition would spend money, the arts/ flitting fairys on obscure stages/ abortions in inner Motumbo Africa/ money to Palistine, yea the list is endless Canada, dont let it happen.

Something that hasn't been discussed yet but which is very relevant are the secret meetings the NDP and Liberals had 6 months ago or so about merging the two parties. What if it wasn't about merging the two parties but actually all about a coalition after the election?

gellen, Happy Easter to you and your family, too!

bartinsky, I'm with you. Politics is the art of the possible and to stay in power, where the CPC could do a lot more good than being in Opposition, Prime Minister Harper has often had his hands tied behind his back vis a vis the demands of the Disloyal Opposition of the NDP, LPC, and the Bloc. Like I said, PM Harper and the CPC are damned if they do and damned if they don't. So, what I really like about Stephen Harper is that when he comes to a fork in the road, caused by a media/Opposition road block, he just goes straight ahead.

That's why they can't stand him. He just goes ahead and gets the job done. That's also why a lot of Canadians like him: He's working for them, not himself, like the other three leaders.

(Jacko says he's for the little guy, the hard-working Canadian family, so how come he and Olivia cost Canadian taxpayers $1.2 million? They've become very accustomed to a lifestyle that's beyond what any hard-working Canadians family can afford -- and they live in Toronto, not Vancouver, relevant because it costs more to fly to BC than Toronto from Ottawa. What hypocrites, with smiles on their faces -- like the crocodile ...)

And if that is a Liberal riding, it would be good to see boos translate into votes, except I wouldn't be surprised to see 30% still go Lieberal, 40% go NDP, 25% Conservative, 1% Green, and the remainder not vote.

The only meaningful insult is to keep them out of power. My aged gut twists at the knowledge of what is going to happen if the Conservatives don't get a healthy majority this time.

When the Red Star or CTV turns on a Librano, you know that Librano is toast. Their next problem is how to foist off Rae on us.

After the blatant robbery, pillage, lies and deceit ROC suffered at the hands of the punk from Shawinigan, ROC has figured out how hollow is the Librano strategy: rob the ROC blind to buy a majority via Quebec.

With the world teetering on economic oblivion, folks don't give a rats' a** about "National Unity"... and certainly squandering funds in such an economic climate in order to purchase (actually always attempting but never succeeding) "National Unity", or "Social Justice" is so dauntingly stupid that even Katmeat could figure it out.

Some day the Canadian MSM might even get a clue. We're wise to their schtick.

The boo is highly symbolic. And earned.

Good going on pushing this into the media, it's what really happens during an real election, not the ass covering and water hauling that's taken place for years.

These people have lived in a bubble for far too long, exactly as maz2 has directed his fine arrows at above. Seriously, when was the last time a REAL debate occurred with some real policy choices having been tabled? I'm thinking it was the fight over the NAFTA debates. An election is supposed to be about hiring a group of people to govern, or firing the last group, it's not supposed to be about someone's image problem in the media. .

If the media refuses to ask the tough policy questions, what's left but to mock their choice of wearing a tie to a hockey game?

Oh well...towards the end Oliver described Missauga as a "swing riding" and hockey fans in so many words as rude yahooos.....

Then at the last minute, he went after the NDP election platform as foolish wasteful spending with no viable source.....for a momment I got the impression he would have liked to express his opinions of Layton's personal hygene, sexual preferences etc....

Despite Oliver's tight control of his expersion, the eyes are the mirrors of the soul. From start to finish those eyes projected rage and hate.....when he turned to his attack, his eyes almost glowed GOWELLUDE(stargate) like...

Giggles Tabor was so upset, throughout, hysterical would be an accurate term.

At one point Oliver, Baird and Dewar debated....Baird kept his cool....Oliver and Dewar fir the most part were talking over/shouting Baird down....Oliver was blantly the LIBRANO spokesman.

I consider myself an unemotional observer....I just noted that the dog took about an hour to emerge from hiding....doggie treat time and major pets......

Too true KevinB. When a player was not participating during the season, he was required to wear a suit and tie.

Canada's corrupt liberal media is teetering on the edge of a financial meltdown. Ratings and credibility are at historic lows.

The deal with the CRTC used to be a blank cheque (simulcasting US programming) in exchange for promoting everything liberal. The internet has changed everything.

In the next couple of years watch broadcasters and newspapers petition the government (Harper's majority government) for stimulus cash and parliamentary appropriations.

All of a sudden, liberalism is extremely bad for business. How sweet is that?

Who goes to a hockey game in a suit and tie? The coaches, the managers, the owners, injured players -- and that's true whether it's junior or pro. At Vancouver Canuck games during the work week, you see lots of suits and ties. I've worn one there myself; the games start early on the west coast and people go straight from work to the stadium and have dinner there in time to watch the game. I thoroughly enjoy Iggula's discomfiture at finding himself unwelcome in such an un-Liberal demographic, but some posters here don't seem to get out much.

Well, booed is the flipside of that. He didn't show up anonymously or quietly 'cause he loves hockey, he made an appearance as part of an election campaign.

If the MSM are reporting this incident it means that thousands of SDA fans are way ahead of the curve - AGAIN!! The msm were warned: SDA gets results. You win again, Kate. Congratulations to you and Matt.

We are at the 'possible' Trojan Horse moment in this election, IMO. The Troika and the msm backed georgie porgie/soros gang might have some Marxist magic up their gun barrels and I see the wisdom in the words that bartinski posted:

'Chrisinmanitoba; Do you not remember Katsmeat Kinsella getting a big belly laugh amoungst Lieberals and the Olivers of the corrupt MSM while wearing a Barney suit making fun of a Good Man Stockwell Day. Well I do, and any thing that these stinking lying lieberals get thrown at them is not enough. Man up boy, wer'e almost there.'

Conservatives must keep our eyes and ears open and push every single skirmish right over the top. Victory is never declared until after the final battle (May 2)is won. We have the EC bush fighters and the soros acorn folks to monitor before we can get smug. It is not over til the fat lady (E. Canada in this case) sings.

Happy Easter to all. God Bless Canada.

The leftist dog-fight has ended with the Count vanquished by Taliban Jack.

The phony-war was called off by Liberal leader Bob Rae, et al.

Here is the clue:

>>> “Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff and Liberal incumbent Bob Rae speak with reporters on Sunday in Toronto.”

>>> Take a bow, Count. Exit, stage left.

…-

“Ignatieff would work with Layton if NDP held more seats than Liberals”

“TORONTO — Despite running attack ads questioning NDP leader Jack Layton’s judgment, Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff said he’d have no problems working with Layton if he was boss.

Ignatieff told reporters Sunday in Toronto that he sticks with what he’s said all along — he’s willing to work with every political party even if that means working with Layton in an NDP-led arrangement, if that party wins more seats than the Liberals.

“What I’ve said from the beginning to the end, has not changed and will not change. I’ve said I’m willing to work with all political parties. All. Repeat, all parties in the House. What Canadians want after May 2 is for their Parliament to work. We can’t predict what the shape of that Parliament will be. But I want to make it very clear my willingness to work with any political party to get the business of the country done,” Ignatieff said.”

That's Iggy's main problem: He's not real. He's the Rosedale bagmen's puppet and he accepted the gig.

I'm not clear he'll slink off to Boston. I figure he and Szuszanna will hightail it outta here first-class all the way, with the biggest smiles on their faces you've ever seen. Jess:
"He will won't go down in history as the only PM found in contempt of Parliament inthe history of Canada - and in the history of the Commonwealth - as Harper will".

A good line but not quite correct.

The government of Stephen Harper was defeated on a motion of non-confidence, which was framed around a description the its contempt for parliament. The actual report from the committee investgating the contempt allegation was tabled for parliament on Mon Mar 21. Parliament never considered, or voted on the report of the committee, the Liberals decided instead to defeat the government on the non-confidence motion.

Look at Hansard for the week Mar 21 t0 26, Iggy is talking about a government "about to be found in contempt" two days before the actual vote.
The similarities with Hollywood western is sriking: "We will guarantee you a trial, before we hang you"
The end result is that this government was never defeated on a formal motion of contempt of parliament, because it was never put forward.

Forget the record, it never happened.

Not to belabour the point Batb, but that poor little soul you’re defending from the bullies, can and has bullied a million or more Canadians with the stroke of a pen. Without even being in full charge of parliament.

Let’s save the day when the poor dear actually has control of the country and decides to lash out his personal ideologies with the full enforcement of the law.

#1) We know he’s a liar.
#2) We know he whips MP votes.
#3) His party was scandalized and run out of town for fraud when they last had power.
#4) He can’t answer a simple question with a strait answer.

Some rag piece written by Dimitry Anastakis and Jeet Heer aka” The Marxist and anti Semite” does not qualify as anything factual.

I liked the full blown insinuation:

“They've accused him of overspending in the last election and have even gotten the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to raid the Conservative party's headquarters to find incriminating evidence.”

Wow! Now what became of this so called evidence? Hmmm neglected to mention any findings, what?

I really liked this line:

“The same goes for most of his party, which this week accused Elections Canada of a partisan witch-hunt, being in bed with the Liberals and the media and any other number of tin-foil-hat conspiracies”.

Yawn, typical lefty spin when cornered with the facts, the CBC/ CTV bias is coming to an end. The Liberals are going down and there’s not a thing you can do about it. Their days of wreaking havoc on Canadian society will be decided by Canadians in a week’s time.

Jess:
The Harper governmen being found guilty by a committee, is but step two in parliament finding of contempt. The committee was presupposed to bring such a verdict, without seeing any evidence. This committee was stactked with opposition MPs.
The actual report, tabled by the committee, was never considered by parliament. If it was so important, parliament would have yearned to dicuss it, but the fact is Mar 26 was an opposition day, and the Liberals were determined to defeat the government. A motion was presented,.
and the house voted on it, but it was a general motion saying the government was in contempt, etc, but not a separate motion.

The government was defeated for sure, but the motion, of contempt of parliament, was never brought to a vote. The Liberals had a choice to either vote on the committee report, or vote non-confidence, and they chose the latter. The record sounds good, but this government was never found to be in contempt of parliament.
