   1. That explosion looked like gasoline or some kind of fuel. Tall roiling flames means combustion. Pure explosives is a flash and dark grey smoke. Got to admit if you had soft targets to hit, thiswould be the way to go. Almost reminds me of Napalm.

If you look closely at the video, you will see several objects shooting upward ahead of the fireball, trailing vapor or mist behind them, and the vapor trails are soon consumed by the rising fireball. In other words, somebody was storing rather a lot of compressed flammable gas in large containers at that location and the initiating explosion ruptured those containers which then shot off like rockets.

      This is a BLEVE, a boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion, though not a typical example. In the common scenario, a storage container of flammable material is involved in a fire, which heats the contents to above its boiling point, while the structural integrity of the container is compromised by overheating. The container ruptures because of internal pressure, and the material inside flash-vaporizes, catches fire, and becomes an outward expanding fireball.

      In this case, it would appear that multiple pressure vessels containing a compressed flammable liquid (propane or butane for example) were hit by an explosion and ruptured all at once. The material inside those vessels was well above its normal boiling point and flash-vaporized when the containers failed. The explosion also initiated the fire, so you suddenly had a huge expanding fireball.

      BLEVE’s are one of the scariest hazards of fires involving flammable liquids, and have killed a lot of people who did not understand the danger. Do a search for BLEVE videos, and you will see some spectacular fireballs.
