The number of victims has been raised to 19, from 16 crime scenes across northern and central Nova Scotia.
A thread here on the Q&A currently underway.
Leather: We're relatively confident we've identified all of the crime scenes, however, there were five structure fires and we believe there may be victims still within those homes. The investigation is still ongoing and that's why we don't have a final total.

I have absolutely no where to go with this one. I drive through that area twice a year to visit family and have been doing so for over 50 years. Unbelievable.
Huh, she sure shut down the “firearm” question quickly. Guess they still need to build a narrative there. Not allot you can say about fake uniforms and police cars, those are already registered and prohibited for public use.
They relied on Twitter for emergency communication? I hope that’s not normal or I’m really screwed.
No kidding. An alert could have saved many lives.
Me too … I’ll never get the Twit-alert …
However, my NEST Thermostat, which appears to secretly monitors my activities, will probably issue an alert
An interesting moment in the news conference there as a reporter asks RCMP commish Brenda Lucki whether the attacker had a firearms licence. Lucki pauses…and then Minister Bill Blair jumps in to say RCMP doesn’t need to answer yet. (Seems like a very simple yes/no question.)

Yea, the fact that the guy chose to go fake Stazi won’t be much of a concern here.
They’ve spent many decades scaring the public to crap their pants when a cop pulls up, use the wrong pronoun and go to jail. Don’t defend yourself, no firearms, no N95 masks unless it’s to protect the other.
Now it’s surprising when one crazy a-hole dresses up as one of the biggest gang members in town and kills a bunch of defenseless scared people thinking they already paid their “protection money”.
Perhaps the time has come for the federal government to offer free firearms training to citizens and a grant to assist in the purchase of a firearm for personal and household protection. After all, the police are now suspect and untrustworthy. They largely do little more than document crime scenes, issue tickets and eat donuts.
Gun-free zones are for fools and their murderers.
We have never left the jungle, we simply paved it.
.
Agree 100%.
But unfortunately Liberals think guns kill people and worse banning them will get them votes.
Yeah … but I still rest so much more comfortably knowing that my next-door city of Berkeley is a Nuclear-Free Zone. We are OFF LIMITS to a newly resurrected Kim Jong Un.
Anyone have a clip of that exchange with Bill Blair?

JOE WARMINGTON: Nova Scotia mass murder evil, calculated
https://torontosun.com/news/local-news/warmington-nova-scotia-mass-murder-evil-and-calculated
“The guy went on a rampage (Saturday night) — burning houses and shooting people,” alleged a police source. “He got in to his police car he had made at home and drove around pulling people over and executing them.”
Several houses, including Wortman’s home, were burned and the murder spree included the execution of “a mom and dad in front of their children,” said police source.
An officer said Stevenson rammed her killer’s vehicle on a highway and “he shot her in the chest with a bunch of rounds.”
My wife already has the perception from something she’s looked at (her sources tend to be MSM/CBC/Globe & Mail etc.) that significant majority of the victims are women….wait for it.
Apparently the sick f%ck had issues with his ex girlfriend as she was a victim along with her boyfriend.
This tragedy will be exploited. You can bet on it. Remember the Polytechnique? How could you not, they remind us every year, put the flags at half-mast, for something that happened 30 years ago. An “example of the violence women face every day”, like it’s every day 14 people get shot. Let’s see if they even let the bodies cool down before they call for a gun ban.
Oh yeah, Turdoo will put forth a more strict gun ownership ban. I am waiting for the day when the Liberals
will even come after my father’s war rifle and a couple of small hand guns(all legally registered) that he pilfered from Europe. I have never even fired them, they are securely locked away but I treasure them as keepsakes. Remember that Turdoo admires China’s basic dictatorship and he lauded the dead Fidel(his father) as a devoted servant of his people. I will, for the heck of it, post his quote here for all to laugh at. He is such an a$$ kisser.
““It is with deep sorrow that I learned today of the death of Cuba’s longest serving President.
Fidel Castro was a larger than life leader who served his people for almost half a century. A legendary revolutionary and orator, Mr. Castro made significant improvements to the education and healthcare of his island nation.
While a controversial figure, both Mr. Castro’s supporters and detractors recognized his tremendous dedication and love for the Cuban people who had a deep and lasting affection for “el Comandante.
I know my father was very proud to call him a friend and I had the opportunity to meet Fidel when my father passed away. It was also a real honour to meet his three sons and his brother President Raúl Castro during my recent visit to Cuba.
On behalf of all Canadians, Sophie and I offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and many, many supporters of Mr. Castro. We join the people of Cuba today in mourning the loss of this remarkable leader.”

Shiny’s talking points spreader, doesn’t think we should know anything about the guy?!?
I’d look for his donations to the Liberal Party of Canada and his association with Justin.
The point which will be lost on all too many people is that things like this don’t generally happen here in the US. Unlike the UK and Canada, you go out and pull some crap like this, you’re likely to get shot the hell up by one of your intended victims. Just like in the US, these freakish madmen go where the victims are–On the US side of the border, that’s the various and sundry “Gun-free Zones”.
In Canada, that’s pretty much everywhere and anywhere. You don’t have the effective right to defend your life in Canada, even within your own home. I dare say that if someone had shot this “mad denturist” at the door to their home…? They would be the ones getting charged with a crime, even if he had been caught with a can of gas, a lit match, and “illegal firearms”. The RCMP uniform would likely cinch being charged with a capital crime for killing this guy, ‘cos there’s no way you could have known he wasn’t a legit Mountie going about his business when you shot him.
Sad commentary on our times. My sympathies to the innocent and dead, but this is pretty much an artifact of the fact that you can’t entrust your own security to the state. This same story could have happened about anywhere in the Western world, and I can remember reading about a South Korean policeman who did something similar:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woo_Bum-kon
You either handle your own security, or you’re a domesticated animal waiting for the state’s agents to come for you whenever they like.
Absolutely astute, accurate and true. Would add that all people have the right to life and therefore the means to defend themselves. It is not something you can surrender to the State. They cannot do it
Women inflict violence on men all the time. Their preferred way of doing it is using the police, courts, and “justice system”.
No need to comment on the tragic side of this, it has been said already! This will be exploited, by the RCMP, the Politicians, the anti brigade, and the media! Has anyone checked out the blue truck on steroids, with armored glass and a rotating gun turret on top. That got there fast, so it must have been close by! I wonder how many of those are in storage across our country! Nice to know our authorities have their asses covered, with HD military equipment. The thought that we are a peaceful nation is disintegrating, and the very thin veneer of civility is cracking! As to Kirk’s post above, I mostly agree, and he correctly stated what would happen if someone had actually shot this freak before or during his rampage. that said, I have made my choices on this, and will defend myself and my loved ones if I must, and yes I do have access to firearms and ammo. (My house is not a gun free zone) A firearm does not need to be sitting “in storage” if you are at the home, and loading it is a very brief affair! At least I might be alive to actually go to court and prison after such an encounter! Just make sure you use a long gun, and not one of those extra deadly assault style rifles or a scary handgun.
A shotgun is best for home. A short one.
With a laser for target acquisition.
You still have to be precise.
Some pretty premeditated madness. Tough to stop unless you A) Illegally carry a legal weapon or B) Illegally carry an illegal weapon.
It took all night and then some for the cops to finally stop him.
It is obvious that deadly civilian intervention could have saved a lot of lives.
The JBTs took so long because they were never in any rush to stop him in the first place. The more carnage he inflicts on defenseless sheep, the easier it will be for their political masters to advance their gun grabbing agenda. Agenda that every cop supports.
Gun bans are not generally supported by police.
The only ones who do are the politically appointed ones.
Bullshit. Please stop pretending cops are the good guys.
Obsessed with RCMP crazy guy who probably tried to get into the RCMP and failed the psych exam. I suspect his gun was owned legally. If this had happened in say Idaho, he would have not been able to kill so many people without someone firing back. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-nova-scotia-mass-shooter-was-a-denturist-with-an-obsession-for/
There are certain unstable personality types that gravitate towards the police and politics. Sometimes they get weeded out, sometimes not.
One of the stranger things I noted during my time as a recruiter for the US Army was that you could generally count on the guy who came in looking to become a Military Policeman (who tended to ask all sorts of questions about badges, guns, and authority to arrest…) were almost universally the sort of person you’d look at and go “Hell, no… I don’t want him with a badge and a gun…” as your first and most immediate impression of them. There’s a look to a lot of them, very high-strung and nervous.
The killer’s presumed high school yearbook picture has that same sort of look to it. I’m not surprised he was apparently rejected by the RCMP, but I am sort of shocked they managed to catch on to his apparent issues ahead of him being selected. This is exactly the sort of person who usually manages to pull off a convincing image as a prospective candidate for law enforcement. It would be interesting to see his file, if there is one.
If he was that obvious even in his high school picture, when he was posing, imagine how he would have been in a proper interview. It will be interesting to see if his gun was legally owned since the RCMP are supposed to do such a thorough exam of his background. I feel so bad for the innocents killed by this nut, especially kids who saw their parents shot. You see a uniform, you see the lights, you pull over. You don’t think of a loon on a killing spree.
But you do now…
The mass murderer killed more than people, more than a RCMP officer. By way of his modus operandi, his disguise as one of them, he killed public trust in the uniform, in the sight of their marked vehicles and the RCMP as an federal institution in Nova Scotia.
While finally stopped by the arrival of an RCMP SWAT team, the 12 hours of so of murder and mayhem, provided evidence of the truth of the legal opinion “Police are guardians of the public, not guarantors of individual safety.” ( Justice Ross Colver, of the B.C. Court of Appeal).
The Right to armed self-defence, under Common-law is for instances when the sanctions of society and the sanctions of the law prove insufficient. This because the Right to Life was considered an individual Natural Right.
In effect, that Natural Right was violated and painted over, by the 4 federal political parties and the Judiciary, who no longer recognize it. Who treat it as an anachronism, as a branch they trimmed from the “living tree Constitution”.
Thus how can there be an obligation to warn the general public over the airwaves or cell phone alert system et al otherwise about the nature of the marauder? Home invasions, arson, street shootings. Which, if fully honest would be “you are on your own, w/o police protection until… ?” In the absence of the Right to Life and to defend that Right and the means to do so.
Whether it’s a home invasion shooting or having your house set on fire killing you and you’re family or being shot to death if you try to escape burning to death unarmed an defenseless. This is the consequence, intended or not. This when a Natural Right to Life has been politically and judicially turned into a privilege, one granted by government.
I recall the story in the late 1980s, of a dangerous local criminal hiding in the forest around Miramichi, N.B. as police searched in vain for him. News reports were of citizens, keeping old rifles and shotguns loaded and handy to defend against a home invasion. During that period, that monster murdered two spinster sisters(the term used then) and an elderly priest, all of whom likely chosen for their vulnerability.
Applicable is the proverb by a J. Cooper – “The past, is another country.”
Well said.
Maybe these two nutcases were related.
The monster of the Miramichi was:

You are right about the public trust. From now on, no Canadian will see a police officer approaching without some discomfort that this could be their last moment.
They may not recognize our natural rights, but they are still there, are in the Bill of Rights and if used in a defense cannot be denied.
12 f#@*ing hours this guy was driving around the province executing people and the NS RCMP didn’t have the brains or the consideration to use the province’s Emergency Alert system on cell phones, etc… and used TWITTER instead to update? How many lives could have been saved??
I’d be shocked if lawsuits from victim(s) families aren’t forthcoming.
Is it possible that the gun used to murder most of the victims was the murdered RCMP officers gun?
How did he burn 5 houses down and destroy multiple vehicles?
Prayer the folks.
This latest mass murder even shows again what can happen when you are forced to rely on government for your protection.
If Canadians were allowed to defend themselves by legally carrying a gun (properly trained , licensed bah blah blah) this asshole would not have gotten very far.
What are the responses of government and their lackys, more gun control. 180 degrees from what needs to happen.
All of this is insignificant. The only important question is what will you do when they will come for your guns.
English, Australians, Newzealanders, and Canadians, so far, have demonstrated perfect traits to be disarmed, in stages, eventually completely. Does this mean anything to you? It was you who brought this onto yourselves. Always docile, always tame, always complicit, always silent. It is not Trudoe or his father, who brought this onto yourselves. It was Kim Campbell from the PC and all of you. Quit whining, you are making yourself sound funny.
Take the history of gun control legislation in Canada and match it against the list of sitting parliaments.
1892 – handgun licensing – comes from the conservative government of Macdonald/Abbot/Thompson
1913 – handgun carry permits – conservatives under Borden
1919 – ban for non-Brits to own guns – coalition under Borden/Meighen
1920 – licensing of guns and registration of rifles, repealed in 1921 for Brits but kept for foreigners until 1950 – ditto
1934 – handgun registration – conservative under Bennett
Your beloved cons have paved the way for the liberals to continue on, and as soon as it became a political playing card, they changed their color. Boo-hoo!
Well done Benjamin Gray, that was a perfect piece of CBC writing, omitting the rest of the story.
Cut off the time line at 1934,excellent you should write climate science communication..
Where for is Comrade Chretin and Saint Allan Rock?
Oh right their 1994 impositions were “conservatives in action” too.
Now yesterdays Liberals would be todays conservatives and yesterdays conservatives were “progressives”..
So the Uni-Party marches on.
What is quite fun is watching the slow realization by the well indoctrinated citizen’s of Can Ahh Duh..of how useless their high priced help truly is.
Everywhere.
This killer had a genuine RCMP uniform.
Amazing.
