The FBI apologized to the secret court that handles national security investigations for the way it conducted surveillance of a former Trump campaign adviser during the 2016 election, according to a court filing made public on Saturday.
FBI Director Christopher Wray outlined steps the bureau is taking to ensure it doesn’t make the same mistakes again. He wrote in the filing to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that the FBI will tighten procedures governing wiretapping applications to the court, which oversees intelligence gathering under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
The FBI response comes after a report last month from the Justice Department inspector general that revealed serious issues with the bureau’s applications to the court to wiretap former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. The FBI suspected Page had possible ties to Russia.
That report prompted the court to take the highly unusual step of publicly rebuking the FBI and ordering the bureau to revalidate its work.

Utterly corrupt. Irredeemable. A failed institution. Enemy of a free people. Burn it down. Salt the earth. Etc., etc.
You’re right… swamps cannot be drained, at least without rather large inputs of energy (i.e. LOTS of money). Swamps are the lowest places around, where everything around them drains to the swamp, especially the muck and mire. Should you manage to find a plug in the bottom of that swamp, DO NOT REMOVE it! If you remove the plug, the swamp won’t drain, but will fill to a new, higher level from backflow through the plugged hole.
The only way to drain swamps, in practical terms is to eliminate everything you can that feeds them, and divert to other uses. Only then will the swamp dry up, the muck, mire, and evil creatures be exposed, and finally it will whither and die.
Unfortunately, most of the swamp creatures will wander off to find new potential swamps, and when those become toxic you will have to go through the process once again. I’d guess that the cycle time on that is somewhere around 30 to 50 years for optimum results. Only through persistence and perseverance can the swamps be controlled; they can never be eliminated.
BULL SHIT
17 consecutive “mistakes” which allowed the FBI to spy on the Trump team. The odds of 17 mistakes always going against the Trump people are greater than 130,000 to 1.
Yes, Sid V is correct in his assessment.
FBI trying to outdo the KGB…Russia, Russia, Russia!
Why the hell is Wray still working for the corrupt FBI… Comey, Page, Strozk, Wray etc.etc. they should all be in jail.
(sarc) Your superiors should be in jail? Tsk, tsk. You don’t know your place, do you? (/sarc)
This is a charade.
No wall, no arrests and foreign military intervention abounds.
Prove me wrong.
I’m so old I can still remember how strict the legal system in Canada and the US used to be about telephone wiretapping. It was considered a very serious action by law enforcement, was constantly being challenged in courts, and law enforcement shook in their boots while making sure they jumped through all the hoops and followed proper legal procedures. Now… the amount of spying on our personal lives by governments and commercial entities is staggering, like many people I am amazed at how internet advertising seems to know everything going on in my life including health care matters, it’s almost like there might be electronic monitoring of conversations inside my home. Almost…
wray is as corrupt as brennan and comey. Hopefully he ends up in Gitmo where they all belong for the rest of their lives.
It must be remembered that the FBI is but yet another government institution and, as such, THEY DON’T GIVE A RAT’S BEHIND.
Why?
Because they know that they don’t have any “competition” as a private business has and therefore they, in their minds, can’t be fired.
Shock-waves hit Washington, D.C., when Donald Trump fired James Comey and Washington, D.C., has been trying to destroy Mr. Trump ever since.
This is why there is SO much rage on the part of people like Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, James Comey, etc., etc.:
“Us? Fired? By that inferior?”
“The FBI suspected Page had possible ties to Russia”. The FBI knew he was a CIA operative, but altered evidence (one of the ‘mistakes’) before the FISA court in order to approve surveillance. Page is now lawyering up for some rather significant civil rights suits. This thing ain’t over and an apology won’t make it go away. Discovery will be very interesting.
A good way to start ‘fixing mistakes’ is by sending prominent violators to jail.
You have to love it. Page was a spy whose job it was to contact Russians. He joined the Trump team in a minor position and the FBI got permission to tap Trump’s campaign because Page had contact with Russians. I hope Page sues for $100 million and gets it – make Comey and the rest of the crooks pay for it. Why is no-one in jail up to and including Obama?
Ignorance of the law is no excuse, for joe citizen.
But wilfully breaching the letter and spirit of that same law by a government agency is a “mistake”.
Why yes it is.
So fire them all.
I feel that President Trump is slow walking this morass, partly as it keeps the base enraged and partly because he has no choice, proper procedure is tedious, time consuming and boring as hell.
I say let us use the new rule,Demon Rat standards,if it is a liberal or progressive comrade, we need no proof,no evidence and no accounting..Hang them Now.
Apologize next century.
CNN trying to stop Devin Nunes from outing them on their Parnas libel is another example of leftist tortoise tort tactics.
Notice though that the walls are closing in; for example an exculpatory Flynn 302, previously lost, miraculously reappearing thanks to a tenacious lawyer who replaced a conflicted team.
It was probably just another mistake.
When you fight a monster you must take care that you do not become your enemy.
“Mistake(s)”. The last verbal refuge of accepting guilt and denial of responsibility using one word. Also considered “criminal mindset” within the mental health community.
