    1. Exactly the opposite. Quebec is threatening to take their ball and go home. Alberta is thinking they’re in a lousy deal, and if others won’t pull their weight then there’s no point in being the only one harnessed and continuing to pull the cart.

      1. Can you actually stop being stupid for just one moment?

Quebec is not “threatening to take their ball and go home”.

Quebec is walking through the door and saying “nice establishment you got here; would be a shame if anything were to happen to it”. In a mafia accent, of course.

THERE IS NO QUEBEC SEPARATION MOVEMENT. NEVER HAS BEEN. All there ever was, or ever will be, is the Quebec Extortion Racket.

        1. “There’s no Quebec separation movement. Never has been”.
In 1996 they came within an eyelash. Premier Parizeau was going to issue a declaration of independence the next day. Quebec members of the military had been asked to support them.

That said, I say they don’t get another try unless the ROC gets to vote as well on the same question.

          1. BJG

And my Reply would be very simple…
PISS OFF and stay that way.
            You have my blessing.

In the end what Quebec does or doesn’t do matters little to Westerners. Calving off the biggest welfare state would be the best thing for this country…and take the Maritimes and your 2 Bit trust fund (_i_)hole with you.

          2. “That said, I say they don’t get another try unless the ROC gets to vote as well on the same question.”

50% plus 1 in a crooked vote and they are gone. Quebec would declare independence that night and nobody is going to send their kids to die to keep it.

        2. ??? why the vitriol? Don’t you see that “I’m gonna take my ball and go home” is coercive? “If you don’t play by my rules then no one gets to play.” Think it through a little better next time.

As for “there is no Quebec separation movement” you honestly think that they don’t believe their own press who are commonly telling them that they are better than us, and a drag on their greatness to be? It’s delusional, but I think that many Quebecers do believe they’d be better off on their own.

    2. “How do you get Alberta out of Canada?”

      Heh.

Your first problem will be figuring out how to get rid of Edmonton.

  1. You should have sent them away last time.

Like Stan said, secession can become a habit. That is why Abraham Lincoln fought so hard to maintain the Union.

  2. The other parties have stolen green theology from the Greens and incorporated it into into their own platforms so why not have the Greens steal, at least for their Quebecois candidates, the policies of the PQ.

    1. Greens are commies and fit right in with the extreme socialists in Quebec. Without the billions sucked out of the ROC Quebec would have to dump all those “great” social programs that the ROC support through transfer payments. Their major industries and employers ie SNC Lavalin, Bombardier etc would all shut down without billion dollar subsidies that come from the ROC. Let them go with the condition that Canada owns the St Lawrence Valley and the river. Good bye.

  3. If Quebec goes and Alberta goes, the whole stupid project called Canada can go. The federal government does nothing that any of us need and the sooner each province becomes a self governing entity the better.

    1. Originally that is how Canada was set up. Except weak Provincial Prime Minister’s fell under the power of the PURSE of Ottawa. The Provinces ended up exchanging Colonial Status to Britain for Colonial Status to Ottawa. Canada was set up as an anti American project by the British Crown. Because the American Rebels scared the crap out of the Crown so they created Canada to thwart the USA. Their losses of USA and all the wealth that entailed. Canada became their storehouse and they commissioned J.A. MacDonald to create Canada and regain the loss of that tremendous wealth and prestige.

      1. Actually, I think it was the American civil war that prompted action on Confederation.

The Charlottetown Conference was held in late 1864. By then, the Confederates were on their last legs, having lost control of the Mississippi. Robert E. Lee’s leadership was, perhaps, the only thing that held their breakaway country together. It was a matter of time before the war was over.

However, Britain did support the Confederacy as it was a source of cotton for its textile mills. Many of the blockade runners were themselves British and, from what I understand, Lincoln wasn’t pleased by that. Without Confederation, the Americans might have launched a punitive strike against Canada because it was British territory.

  4. This time Albertans should support Quebec Independence, and when they go they can take all their enforced Fwench language garbage with them no more Forced Fwench culture in ROC. And dismantle the Forced UN MultiKult Factory with them as well. Note I said FORCED. If some one wants another language and culture that is up to them, but they also pay for it themselves not the bankrupted tax payer borrowing Billions to assuage Gallic Ego’s. The Culture Industry whether Indian or Fwench or Ukrainian has destroyed Canada. Like Trudeau said Canada is a POST NATIONAL COUNTRY, get on with the dismantling of the GULAG. Besides Canada was hijacked years ago by the NGO’s and the UN. The Old Canada has been dead for years. Time to bury the corpse.

    1. The entire country should force Quebec to leave under economically crippling and morale destroying conditions.

      1. Actually Jim, I think the rest of Canada should simply say please leave. Be your own country.

Many Quebecers think that Quebec supports the rest of Canada (remember “fiscal imbalance”?).

So the argument should be; Quebec can stop sending money to Ottawa if it becomes independent.

SDA readers know the real story, but why should we stop Quebec separation? It means more money for the rest of Canada. And Trudeau would go with Quebec.

  5. Well if this report on projected world oil prices for 2020 is right, there will be no money to hand over in Equalization. The report is saying possible 25$/barrel global price. Which means Alberta will be getting about 12 bucks after discounts. So Atlantic Canada and Quebec will get what they voted for no oil cash cow. And Trudeau will still be PM so he will strip all cash out for Quebec and tell the rest of Canada to go seek nourishment elsewhere. This will be very good for Alberta Independence very bad for Alberta families. https://www.zerohedge.com/energy/russia-considers-possibility-25-oil-next-year

    1. We sure are lucky the Liberals kept Alberta from cashing in on the booming U.S.A. economy under Trump. Normally, Alberta makes money when the U.S. economy booms. It has happened like that for 100 years. A booming economy to the south of Alberta keeps the price of oil high enough to make our oil feasible. Landlocking us dropped our available price and destroyed our economy. Now, even IF we can get a pipeline, we won’t get anything for our oil if the world-wide recession shows up, as predicted by economists world-wide. Thanks Liberals. We will NEED a new country to survive.

  6. Off the Canadian teat.
Make your own country as you please.
No money, none, as in zero from Canada.
    The sooner, the better
    Good luck and fare well.

  7. I’ve said for years people in the west should run for the Bloc. This would do a couple things to speed up Quebec separation.
    A) if there are enough bloc MP’s they could have Quebec separate.
    B) When people in the West vote bloc it would promote more Quebecers to ask for separation.
I think the person running would get campaign financing from the Bloc, because the Bloc wants more members to push separation.
The bloc wouldn’t be able to whip those members. These members would be free to vote how their constitutes want.
When Quebec separation came these members who don’t live in nor want to live in Quebec would try for an agreement in the best interests of the ROC.
