I’ve learned over the years that there is a difference, a big difference, between someone who considers themselves a new Canadian from X, and a Y-ian living in Canada (and there’s definite patterns in which origin countries people from each group fall into, although it’s not always what you’d think). It’s best not to get the two confused.

    Also, remember that it takes money, connections, and lots of both, to get out of some of these hellholes, and poor, homeless orphans and widows don’t have enough to make it to the next camp, so I’ll leave it to your imagination who has enough capital and pull to make it all the way across oceans to Canada.

    Australia has had the debate and public inquiry into the matter. I’m not aware of Canada ever gone thru such an exercise to set overall immigration policy.
