The foetus does not choose the circumstances of its conception, gestation, or existence. These are determined by its mother and father.
The foetus does does not commit violence against it’s mother and has no aggressive intent, so no claim of self-defense can be made on the mother’s part.
The parents, assuming they willingly engaged in actions that created the foetus and are therefore responsible for it’s circumstances, must act in agency for the foetus. They must act in what would reasonably be considered its best interests, including the preservation of its life until such time as it can make its own decisions, or more able agents can be found that will assume that responsibility.
This would be similar to digging a pit then accidentally causing an innocent bystander to fall into it. The people who dug the pit are responsible for the other’s well-being while in the pit and for arranging for their safe exit from it. They are obligated to act in agency for the other. Failure to do so would be negligent at best, if not criminal.

The foetus does not choose the circumstances of its conception or gestation. Women, and men, who freely choose to engage in procreative activities determine the circumstances of conception and gestation. They create the foetus, and force gestational dependency and confinement upon it.
If anything, women who abort their children, except in cases of rape or medical necessity, should be charged with kidnapping, unlawful confinement, and manslaughter or pre-meditated murder.
