We have comets and asteroids to thank for Earth’s water, according to the most widely-held theory among scientists. But it’s not that cut-and-dried. It’s still a bit of a mystery, and a new study suggests that not all of Earth’s water was delivered to our planet that way.
It always seemed like a lot of comets.

I long for the day when science ceases to be speculation.
OWG, when science becomes “settled”, you gots religion, which begets wars. Be thankful for the “questions”:-)))
This isn’t science, nor is it speculation.
It is not a theory raised by well-meaning scientists who continue to refine their theories in a quest for truth.
It is lies. Those who come up with this fake-science are always either Jesuits or patsies advancing Jesuit “science”.
Behind this fake-science is religion. Science is not at odds with Christianity, but is certainly at odds with the Roman Catholic mystery cult.
I will settle for the Bible before I settle for what passes as science these days.
“But scientists are malcontents, always trying to have a better, more thorough understanding of things. They were questioning the “water from comets” theory before this newest study came out.”
Yes,they’re “malcontents” , rebellious heroes when it doesn’t affect their funding to have dissenting opinions. Where is their skepticism with the theory of CAGW aka climate change?
Scientists have fallen in public trust from semi-gods when I was young to the level of particularly bad used car salesmen, except at CBC where they’re still little deities.
– and leads-to an obvious follow-up question; where did the COMETS get all that water?
I blame Trump.
– Or maybe global warming – if those comets keep dropping all that water on us, there’s no theoretical LIMIT on how high the oceans can rise – we’re all gonna’ DIEEEEE!!!
You also forgot the patriarchy and white privilege. They’ve been blamed for everything else, right?
Y,are you saying it IS time to panic now?
– Maybe later; I just got back to my desk with a hot lunch…
Ahhh, let’s just keep that GRANT money graveytrain flowing shall we?
A breakthrough is just around the corner, I assure you.

It could be just a problem on my end but when I was looking at that site my desk top PC froze and I haven’t had that issue for quite some time.
there are some conservative sites where my computer grinds to a halt. I usually unplug and start over. I am sure the sites are being blocked because they would not willingly shut down on their own.
Could it be that God created the earth and everything in it and the scientists will never figure it out?
The Scriptures tell us that the depths of the oceans and heavens were opened and water covered the earth. -Genesis.
The millions of dollars for Grant Money scientist tells us that large space rock formations brought life and water when it crashed into the earth at 27,000 miles per hour. ha.
I prefer to believe the theory that doesn’t cost me any more tax money.
What a sad, lazy way of looking at things. Thankfully people don’t all think like this or we’d still be living in the 12th century.
something large enough to put all the water on the earth would have destroyed the planet.
Well, going by that theory, there should be a mandatory god tax, funds to be dispensed at the will of government.
Don’t worry,it’ll start modestly, say $25/tonne escalating to $100/tonne by the end of the century. Imagine all the good works government can do with that money!
so Liz, were did god come from????
enemy 555+111, England. Just ask any Englishman.
Outside. (the universe.)
That was simple.
In science, as opposed to pseudo-science, a particular theory is never proven, or as Algore would say settled. Note the great ideas of science are all called theories, such as Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. Yet the Michael Mann’s of the world would have you think of their theories as if they were facts.
Maybe there needs to be a formal statement that the closer a branch of science is tied to politics and religion (including the church of wokeness), the less likely it is concerned with facts and truth. A general theory of scientific accuracy and bias : Scientific accuracy of any scientific field is inversely proportional to the amount of political and religious bias.
So, any branch of science may have disagreements, even heated arguments, about things like where all the water on Earth came from or if Pluto is a planet. If you can argue and allow opposing opinions, it’s probably healthy science. If political and (pseudo) religious leaders are screaming “heretic!!”, making laws to prevent debate or calling for the censoring of ideas and excommunication of deniers – then there’s a problem. If there is such unscientific nonsense, it is a surefire indicator that the science will be polluted. The scientifically correct side is rarely the side that screams for the silencing of opposing ideas. For historical reference start with evolution, heliocentrism.
All the science that’s fit to support government policy. We vare skeptical about science done by corporations, why not that doen by governments?
One might question then why the contentious parts of “science” are always manufactured by the Roman Catholic church. They came up with evolution, heliocentrism, gravity, the Big Bang, the Piltdown Man hoax, dinosaurs, etc.
On the surface, that sounds preposterous, but with a little digging (investigation beyond googling Wikipedia) you find all sorts of odd facts. Like Copernicus being a Roman Catholic priest. Like the illuminati being created by a Jesuit priest. Like virtually all of the land-based telescopes being owned/operated by the Roman Catholic church.
All the Roman Catholic-created “science” is untestable by the common man. Instead we just have to trust them.
As for anything from space, we can also go to Freemason-run NASA. Freemasonry being controlled by the Jesuits.
All roads lead to Rome.
That isn’t true. If a theory is shown to hold up in all circumstances over hundreds of years, it gets promoted to the status of Law. This is extraordinarily rare; the Laws of Thermodynamics, The Law of Gravity, Newton’s Laws of Motion, and everything that derives from them pretty much exhaust the list.
Gravity is not science. Gravity was invented by the Roman Catholic Church to explain how objects wouldn’t fall off of the bottom side of a “planet”.
On a flat plain, there is no need for gravity. Density and buoyancy are sufficient to explain all known phenomena.
Gravity was “proven” because of the Roman Catholic invention of “space”. Hence the explosion of tv shows about “space” before NASA supposedly landed men on the moon, to indoctrinate the masses to believe in this concept, unknown at the time.
I think this belongs under this “settled science” thread because, as sure as gravity, May was going to Dismay, as Paul Watson says:

Theresa May…another Sleazy dishonest lying sack of Hammer & Sickle shit….in the mold of Justin Trudeau, Pierre Trudeau, Macron, Angela Merkel, most UN functionaries and any number of EU Bureaucrats in Brussels.
COMMUNISTS….we seem to be surrounded by them. Infesting Academia, Media & Politics be it Municipal, Provincial, State, or Federal….
Communism was created and perfected by the Roman Catholic church centuries ago, along with concentration camps in the Paraguay reductions. Modern communism had to be re-“invented” by a Jewish patsy (Jews always being the favorite patsies by Rome) named Karl Marx. Everything Rome does is with the goal of enslaving the people again, so they may again reign supreme as they did for many centuries. Many millennia if you include their earlier Babylonian, Persian, and Greek incarnations.
But most people believe that Rome received a fatal wound when the reformation began, and believe it to simply be a benign force in the background, an old relic that still survives as a shadow of its former self.
In reality it is as deadly as it has ever been – it has just adopted Jesuit General Lorenzo Ricci’s (aka Sun Tzu) tactic of appearing weak when it is actually terrifyingly powerful.
Or perhaps ,one comet had a different ratio and provided the 2% different water . Occums razor
Much as I like this stuff the taxpayer generally doesn’t care. Who pays for these studies
“Who pays for these studies”
Short answer. The taxpayer. Part of the university industry requires that those with tenure continue to think about ‘stuff’ and write about ‘stuff’ and teach that ‘stuff’ which is good because who knows what mischief a PhD in sociology or psychology could get into if they weren’t working.
One thing I noticed while I was a grad student is how a lot of professors spend a great deal of time creating work for themselves. They didn’t care what they investigated just as long as somebody else paid for it. They were little more than over-educated freeloaders.

There are interplanetary gasses, largely hydrogen. 5 billion years of earth gravity has retrieved a whole bunch which combined with freed primordial molecular oxygen made water. Do I qualify for my Nobel prize in 12 days like Obama. Actually, I like my theory best.
my theory is the earth and certainly possibly other rocky planets came out of a supernova.
thus the iron core (which would naturally gravitate to the centre of the star and sit there)
the huge proportion of elements less than iron and proportionate rarity the further up the table one goes.
and especially the fact most of the earth is still today molten magma.
hint: radioactive decay can happen either fast and create lots of heat in which case it all cooled in the past 4 ‘billion with a B’ years, or, much slower like uranium in which case the heat conducts quickly to the surrounding rock and out out out finally radiating off the surface. NOT enough to melt it. especially an entire friggin planet’s worth eh?
but if it all came out of a supernova, the surface would cool first, which we have, and fracture from shrinking which we have, and the iron core producing a magnetosphere which we have.
etc etc.
and as according to scripture it would happen in actually less than a day. a matter of minutes IIRC.
but this is just a theory, I lack the resources and mathematics etc for a fuller consideration.
If I could just put one thought into your head. We have been taught that our solar system is composed of 4 rocky inner planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars) and 4 gassy outer planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune). This is probably a crock of shit.
A more likely theory is that all the planets in our solar system are rocky planets. Some just have a larger atmosphere than others. The so-called gas giants have enormous atmospheres (so large we can’t see their surface). That doesn’t mean they have to be defined as gassy, just that their atmosphere is much larger relative to their rocky core. It could be that at some point away from the sun, the solar wind can not overcome the gravity of the planet and massive atmospheres form.
One of the unique properties of planet Earth is it’s magnetosphere, thought to derive from a rotating liquid outer core. Interestingly Jupiter also has a magnetosphere, as does Saturn, Neptune and Uranus. So does Mercury. The moon, Venus and Mars are not really magnetic at all, suggesting these planetary bodies have no liquid core and therefore cannot produce a dynamo.
Another thing about the Earth. It is highly differentiated, especially near the surface (within the crust). The crust is about 40 km thick and humans have penetrated about 10 km of it. The rest is speculation. We don’t know a lot about 75% of our crust let alone the rest of the interior of the planet. But we have no problem making wild speculations about what happened 4.5 billion years ago, then extrapolating our theories to other solar systems, theories that don’t even stand up to our own solar system. OK, maybe that was 2 points…
This new theory has more holes in it than a robot whore house.
If “this model suggests that the inevitable formation of water would likely occur on any sufficiently large rocky exoplanets in extrasolar systems” then where is all the water on Mars, Venus and Mercury?
You need more than the inevitable formation of water. You need an atmosphere to keep the water trapped. You can’t be too close to your sun. You can’t be too far away. You need a molten core to circulate the magma.
Theory 1: Earth was formed by collisions of many rocky asteroids and formed into a molten sphere. Water was added later.
Theory 2: Earth was formed as a wet planet with water on the surface.
Theory 3 (this one): Earth was formed as a molten sphere with water trapped below surface and with later wet asteroid collisions.
I sometimes get the feeling that we’re not learning anything new, that we’re just recirculating and repackaging our current theories.
I am very interested.

tell me more about robot whorehouses.
src, yah, stevo appears to be an expert in that area, I’m curious also. Stevo could replace unDork as the premier entertainment in here:-)))
I don’t know, Watto is doing a pretty fab job.
Here’s another theory. There’s no such thing as a planet, including Earth.
Earth is all there is, as described in the Bible, and as was believed by all nations and faiths. The sun, moon, and stars exist in the firmament – a hard surface several hundred miles above the Earth’s surface.
The ridiculous notion of a sphere earth was invented by the Roman Catholic Church shortly after Martin Luther translated the Bible into vernacular German at high speed, using the newly-invented Guttenberg printing press. Once the people could read the Bible for themselves and see through Rome’s lies, Rome had to find another way to enslave the people.
It did so by coming up with what it termed “learning against learning”, a strategy devised by Cardinal Wolsey. The idea was to create a fake reality that conflicted with biblical teachings. Rome then dreamed up “space”, dinosaurs, evolution, the heliocentric model, “billions and billions” of years old earth, etc.
This is fact. But decade after decade of Rome’s military order, the Jesuits, teaching lies in schools and universities has made their lies sound like truth.
Now truth sounds “crazy” and those who believe themselves wise spit at those who would free them from their chains.
Watto’s in overdrive today.
I can only show you the door…
He’s no Spurwing Plover.
So you know, I don’t get a kick out of posting ridiculous-sounding bunk. Nor of being ridiculed or insulted by people whose posts I enjoy and agree with.
I am new to the evil of Roman Catholicism myself, but the more I dig the more horrifying facts I find. This isn’t just me either. There’s a growing community of people who actually read books written before this century when what I am saying was commonly known.
There is a reason why the Jesuits were kicked out of every nation in Europe, and out of both China and Japan. There is a reason why the US hung several Catholics after they murdered Abraham Lincoln, and why they abolished the position of ambassador to the Vatican, until Roman Catholic Ronald Wilson Reagan restored it, along with Freemason and Roman Catholic Billy Graham.
If you find any of my points at all interesting, or disagree with any of them, feel free to do some research. Perhaps like me you’ll dig into it to disprove it, only to be shocked to find out it’s all true,
Or email me at triplewatto@gmail.com if any of you wish to talk with me privately.
I’d prefer that you stay on topic.
