With the $5.5 billion purchase of Texas-based Newfield Exploration Co., Doug Suttles says he envisions a “headquarterless” company. That transformation may have actually begun in March when he moved house to Denver.

I don’t want my country back.

I want a new one.

  1. Shoot I have quite a bit of shares in their drip program. Seemed like a good idea at one time.

    1. I am a retiree who likes dividend stocks which pay monthly dividends. Up until two years ago I had made money on those nice pipeline stocks (e.g., Embridge). But after the Trudeau-Butts victory, I saw the writing on the wall: the two Liberals are dead set against any Western Canadian development, so why put money in this area?

Trudeau and Butts promise increased immigration. This means soaring housing prices and apartment rates. So I have a heavy weighting in multi-apartment REITS (e.g. Interrent IIP.UN). They have done nicely of late. We are becoming a nation of consumers, not producers, under Trudeau. And the fix is in.

  2. “I don’t want my country back…”

What makes you believe you ever had a country? It has always been just Ontario and Quebec. Everything else was always just a piggy bank for them.

    1. Southern Ontario and southern Quebec have always wanted an impoverished western Canada. Serfs have to know their place, after all.

      1. That’s always been just an amusing and irrelevant flea vs flea fight. Canada’s true enemies are in order of danger;
        1. Canada’s owners, The British Crown and her minions in the Ruling Class
        2. The Parliamentary System and it’s feudal dearth of democratic structure and principles
        3. Socialism and Government cheese
        4. The apathetic and wholly ignorant Canadian peasantry

  3. During the reign of the environmental president (Obama) the USA increased its oil production from 5.5 million barrels per day to 10.5 million barrels per day. Lots and lots of pipelines built.
Not a peep out of the greens.

    1. US oil production increased despite Elephant Ears efforts, not because of them. As for the greens, they called watermelons for a reason, green on the outside but red on the inside.

  4. There are lots of rumours floating around about TCPL and Enbridge and their respective future plans. We’ve already seen rigs and their crews moving south and companies passing over Canadian investment and looking for opportunities down in the US. If it continues, then it’s only a matter of time before we will start losing HQ’s. And that won’t just impact those companies but all of their advisors (accountants, lawyers, consultants, etc.) who rely on the those HQs to get premiere work. Not to mention all of the office space and the knock-on effects that creates.

Calgary is in a lot of trouble. Hey, where’s that guy who thought this was great cause all the immigrants would leave and he could get reservations downtown and it would all blow over in a couple years? Haven’t heard from him in awhile….

I own shares in both and they’ve been doing poorly ever since Prinz Dummkopf ascended the throne.

But, my fellow Canadians, we should rejoice and sing because we will have the great distinction of being the first country in history to officially abolish its oil and gas industry! I can hardly wait to start scrounging for unicorn dung to heat my apartment.

Seriously, Prinz Dummkopf and Duke Buttshead have all but officially declared war on western Canada. They have long seen us as a renegade region of the country that must be pacified once and for all eternity. They will do it by destroying the basis of the economy. Somewhere in Hades, PET must be smiling that his son, at last, amounted to something he could finally be proud of.

      1. “Prinz Dummkopf and Duke Buttshead” hate the oil and gas extraction industry; they would prefer it died.
Meanwhile the USA is now becoming an exporter of oil & gas:

The U.S. is poised for multi-decade success as the global energy mix shifts, with supply growth underpinning ethane’s growing role and the country’s status as a net exporter by the mid-2020s, a midstream analyst said.

Enjoy the Canadian decline…so much for “hewers of wood and drawers of water” and the RESOURCE economy!

The only excess gas we have in this land, is the withering political flatulence emanating from our august ‘leader’ and his illiterate ‘carbon taxes’.

    2. buying opportunity for Alberta oil companies, especially those pumping light crude with little gas.

    3. You do realize that the industry leaving Alberta and Saskatchewan is the Liberal and NDP plan.

I want a new country is right and the sooner, the better.

  5. I come to SDA several times a day but have rarely commented lately. Perhaps it is a function of not seeing any real value to spending the time to opine on a subject to people of a like mind with no chance for any impact. (And I really don’t want to engage in any kind of debate with the occasional troll that shows up)

However, when my beloved Kate posts a line in reference to a free and independent West, such as “I want a new one”; no matter what, I want to jump in and yell AMEN!!!!!

  6. So, where’s the outrage organized by that so called “opposition Party” called the CPC over the wrecking of the economy of Canada by these Central Canadian jerks? Having a Milk In?

How’s Ms Notley gonna pay for all that health care here in Alberta, or Moe in Saskatchewan, when there’s no money coming in & any cash being genreated is chasing east with all the Equalization? We’re paying Central Canada for that very Equalization as it is! If I was her & him, I’d tell that prick in Ottawa to stuff it, I’m not putting my population in any sort of jeopardy on this CO2 jiggery pokery that impacts our lives out here & fire up every coal mine operation to the max. The Province of Alberta owns the resources in Alberta, we’ve already had that court case settled. The Feds want to shut us down on CO2, they can send troops to do that if they want to go that far. Their choice. Some wag on another blog I visited this AM opined that “forcing” people to comply was actually an option in his POV.

If I was Kenny, Day 1 as Premier, take Alberta out of Confederation.

    1. If you have not realized by now that the media does not cover the conservative party, then you have been asleep. If the conservatives wanted the same coverage as the liberal they would have to buy a network and subsidize it to the tune of 1.4 billion dollars per year.

    2. If I was Kenny, Day 1 as Premier, take Alberta out of Confederation.

Amen. I’ve got my Rupert’s Land flag ready if that should ever happen.

    3. No provincial government will ever do that – Ottawa will simply say we are cutting off Federal everything, the threat of which will be sufficient to keep it from ever coming to pass.

  7. Just look on the bright side. When the oil sands shut down, Justin can build lots of housing on the land for those three hundred and fifty thousand muslims he is bringing over every year. Don’t have Gerald Butts call you a Nazi. Be a feminist like Great Leader Justin.

  8. I think the time has come to have a serious discussion about whether Western Canada should remain in Confederation. It’s not like the rest of Canada is securing your borders, protecting you from marauding foreign bandit scum, nor even treating you with respect while they confiscate your wealth and give it to people who hate you. What on earth do you people GET out of Confederation? The Queen on your money? I am all ears …

  9. The economy maybe grows from the heart out but business moves from the country out.

    1. The way Prinz Dummkopf is going about it, you’d think that “heart” should have a “p” in front in order to be more accurate.

  10. Kate, I seriously doubt President Trump will long tolerate a Chinese puppet state on the northern frontier of the United States. We may get that new nation, conceived in liberty, brought to us before you know it.

  11. Trudeau and Butts are taking ya head first into the Leap Manifesto. But cheer up, more and more immigrants on the way!!

    1. Will I be less of a (post-national, sharia-compliant, gender-balanced, carbon-neutral Soros vassal on stolen aboriginal land) Canadian if I don’t have at least 20 “refugees” living in my apartment with me? Will my “anonymized” personal data show that?

    2. Leap Manifesto…

Sounds a lot like Mao’s Great Leap Forward…

Clearly, Cansock (Canadian socialism) is more Maoist than Stalinist. Ingsoc probably is too.

  12. Deu 28:15  But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:

Deu 28:36  The LORD shall bring thee, and thy king which thou shalt set over thee, unto a nation which neither thou nor thy fathers have known; and there shalt thou serve other gods, wood and stone.

  13. The Spawn hasn’t figured it out yet (Butts likely hasn’t briefed him during his daily scripting) that in his war against the Western Canadian Oil industry, the Federal government isn’t getting the wealth nor is Quebec nor is anyone in Canada. The US refiners between the border and the Gulf are getting the difference between WTI and WCS which is currently around US $40/bbl. The greens, the Canadian Supreme Court, the Indian Industry, the LPC, and the media are best thing that ever happened to the US Oil refinery sector.

Pipelines are being built everywhere except in the deranged dominion of Canada with the third largest Oil reserves on the planet.

  14. not being in the oil investment business, anybody care to briefly explain the ramifications of this announcement? implications? why is it bad? does it point the way to an abandonment of the Cdn operations?

    1. Encana is a big player in the Oil Patch. They had moderate exposure in the US along with core areas of Canada but have now acquired a major US producer clearly showing an intention to focus growth in the US where they have egress and better pricing for their production. Central Canadian antagonism, BC watermelons, US greens, the SCOC raising FN expectations and Trudeau/Butts (and their media parrots) have all succeeded in making Western Canadian Oil assets near toxic for investors.

  15. US oil production increased in spite of “Big Ears” because most of the fracking of oil/ng was bought and/or is leased on private property where the Dems/Greens can’t do a damn thing about shutting it down.
