  6. Max may have some Conservative views, but I never considered him to be the sharpest tool, or the most creative. His portfolio handling caused problems for Harper. Harper had a sharp mind but lacked charisma, Stockwell had some charisma but lacked a mind. He did well enough in his portfolio though. Preston had political smarts, and a dash of charisma, but wielded it the way a wiry nun with a ruler would of done. McKay, just happened to be in the right places at the right time. As for Scheer, he’s a human version of Bambi, and will never be seen as threatening, strong or leadership material. To top it off, he’s supposedly running against little Lord Fauntleroy and looks both outmatched and outpaced at the same time. We’re at the bottom of the barrel these days folks. The peoplekind of Canuckistan will never recover. I’m watching the currents, and an exodus may be order in the near future.

    My great epiphany occured whilst reading (for perhaps the third time) a single sentence in von Mises’s *Human Action*

    I heard Max mention Public Choice economics (the theory that public servants act out of self interest). Apparently he’s gonna end this. Ha ha ha ha ha knee-slap ha ha ha hand palm to forehead.

    He also mentioned Bastiast and his principle of concentrated benefits (goodies for favoured factions) and diffuse costs (on a per head basis too small to get worked up about). He’s gonna end this too!

    I happen to agree with everything he says but give him zero chance of getting anywhere with this pretty think tank talk.

    To those whining that the vote will be split, I say… GOOD! Let the CINO’s support the Trudeau-admiring Scheer while the rest of us make a serious effort to change this country’s suicidal path before it is too late.

    I submit that a Scheer liberal government would set this country back EVEN MORE than another stint with a Trudeau liberal government. We do not have the time to waste on yet another Harper-ish version of a leftist-appeasing centrist party.

The story goes QE (money created out of thin air) blew asset bubbles the ones pension funds are invested in and it will take ever more cheap money to keep the assets inflated. while this has been good for pension funds and stawk holders it has impoverished main street. to keep any semblance of an economy going gubermints have to spend ever more taking on more debt which costs more to finance. while its OK to make stawk holders richer and count on “wealth effect” to grow the economy, to actually hand out money to main street would not be a good thing cuz people would actually spend it and we could end up with inflation vs the stagflation we have now.

Partie Populaire is the real name, it will always be based in Gatineau, and it was chosen to appeal to Quebecers.   30. there is a strong libertarian aspect to this new party. martin masse, now employed by the party, has been promoting libertarian ideas in quebec for decades. the focus has always been on the individual with responsibilities balanced by rights. if this seems “pie in the sky” to some – no problem… salmon swim upstream every year. this coming year canadians will get to choose from a list that includes a ppoc that will not base policy on tired divisive left / right ideologies but on rational sanity (is that redundant?). we should not underestimate its appeal. 40% is the target. i like to think i’m a conservatarian and will run with the demotarians and libotarians and anyone else that wants prosperity and lots of it in canada.

    Arguing against “The Populists” is uphill from the start. A modification to Populist Party would seem to work in both French and English. If Mad Max can finesse that, he’s off to the electoral races.

    If Max’s supporters, can effect free public debate, then bad ideas can be discredited and die off.

    Think of Canada, “a free and democratic society” as a garden. It needs tending and weeding from time to time, and fixing the fence.

In Canada, the NDP and Liberal Parties vie for roughly 60% of the vote between them while the core Conservatives around 30% and up to another another 10% for the rest (Bloc, Green, various Communists, Libertarians, and joke Parties). The core conservatives can rarely get a majority government without pulling in some disgruntled centrists who vacillate between Parties. Harper’s majority was due to NDP strength in Quebec as well as going slow and mushy centrist himself. As much as I find Scheer a pretty boy centrist squish, a libertarian leaning Conservative Party under Max, whom I would have preferred, would very likely fail to gain power in the deranged dominion. Similarly, in the US, Rand Paul, whom I would have preferred any day to the loose cannon populist, would likely not have captured the disgruntled smokestack and protectionist crowd and would have lost to Hillary the most Evil one. Unfortunately Max has no hope of capturing power under his strangely Marxist sounding banner even if he totally displaced the Conservatives and failing that all he will manage to do is shrink the core Conservative support to less than 30% ensuring the Liberals power, a Party that, in a rational world should be incapable of being elected to the role of dog catcher. Real politics is very depressing. If the culture can change through economic conditions, hard times, events etc, the core support levels can shift allowing some hope for the future. It’s very difficult to get enthused about working to elect a Party led by someone deserving of little more than holding your nose when you vote knowing that if it all works out, dragging the brakes on the decline is as good as it gets. Where is my single malt!
