  1. This is interesting,
George Orwell and 1984: How Freedom Dies
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37N0aFmO19o
Huxley, the author of Brave new world noted that the masses would willingly exchange freedom for “sensory pleasure and endless consumption”.
Does anybody recognize the parallels of that sentiment and the absolutely massive propaganda of the politicians and “news” cartel on the legalization of weed?
Leaving aside the opinions on good or evil, what is the purpose?
Tomorrow, in Calgary, is going to be marketing confab of weed producers, media cartel, politicians and justice industry on the bliss of smoking the casitas.
You can say its every politicians dream.
Get them mellow and you can tax them, control them, dictate to them and nobody gets upset, what’s not to like.
Neil Postman in a book “Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business” contrasted the ideas of Orwell and Huxley.
“What Orwell feared were those who would ban the books”.
Hmm ….. would that be in the same sense as limiting freedom of speech.
“What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book for there would be nobody that would want to read one ….”
Does anyone see the parallels of those thoughts and reality of today?

  2. Somewhat in the same vein as Lev’s post I offer the following.
As well, a new book purchase from Amazon.ca arrived today. “Clio’s Bastards” or “the wrecking of history and the perversion of our historical consciousness”, by Curtis R. McManus (a Saskatchewan resident).
McManus says, “Over the past four decades, academic history was slowly perverted….”; “Historians altered the content, purpose, and goals of the discipline as they sought not Truth but Justice as part of a larger ideological program of radical social change.”
McManus ends with, “We come to our world expecting to see light and so we see light. but it is not light at all. It is rather, twilight. If we look closer, we see that the shadows have already begun growing longer. Ant there, off in the distance, we dimly apprehend a darkness, gathering, and it is coming this way”.

  3. This is little off topic, and normally, I wouldn’t post in the comments links to petitions, but this is different. This is matter of life or death for many people in South Africa:

“Remember when we were told “Penguins Don’t Migrate, they’re dying!” ? – never mind
WUWT readers may remember this story from last year, where Chris Turney, leader of the ill fated “ship of fools” Spirit of Mawson expedition that go stuck in Antarctic sea ice said: “Penguins Don’t Migrate, they’re dying!” and of course blamed the dreaded “climate change” as the reason. Of course three days later, Discover Magazine ran an article that suggested Turney was full of Penguin Poop.
Well, seems there’s a surplus of Penguins now, in a place nobody thought to look, there’s an extra 1.5 million Penguins.”

“A Hidden Metropolis of 1.5 Million Penguins Has Been Discovered Thriving Out of Humanity’s Reach
One of the most remote places on Earth.”
“Scientists have discovered a previously unknown ‘supercolony’ of Adélie penguins, hidden in plain sight on Antarctica’s remote Danger Islands.
There are more than 750,000 pairs of penguins living on the islands – 1.5 million animals in total – which is more than the rest of the Antarctic Peninsula combined.
Not only is this an incredible reminder that we still have so much yet to uncover about the planet we live in, it also provides scientists with hope. Up until now, there were fears the penguin species was declining rapidly due to climate change.
What’s crazy is that before this, no one really thought the remote rocky chain of islands off the Antarctic Peninsula’s northwestern tip was home to penguins – let alone 1.5 million of them.
“Until recently, the Danger Islands weren’t known to be an important penguin habitat,” said Heather Lynch, an ecologist at Stony Brook University who was one of the senior authors on the study.
You can see the penguin supercolony for yourself below. It’s astonishing:”.

    “Hendrick Avercamp
    The Little Ice Age”
“The vibrant paintings of Hendrick Avercamp (1585–1634) transport us back to a time when Dutch waterways regularly froze in the cold of winter. In his landscapes, people young and old, rich and poor, share both the joy and the hardship of the Little Ice Age.
This climatic phenomenon, which peaked in the 17th and early 18th centuries, was characterized by extremely severe winters that arrived early and lasted well into spring. Avercamp’s earliest dated painting, from 1608, came after a winter in which temperatures averaged well below freezing.
Born in Amsterdam and presumably trained there, Avercamp spent most of his childhood and adult life in Kampen, a small city far removed from that artistic center.
His powers of observation may have been heightened by his disabilities—he was unable to speak and probably also unable to hear. He captured an astonishing range of human conditions and activities, from gentlemen playing colf on the ice, to children throwing snowballs, to gypsies telling fortunes.”

    “Trudeau’s diplomatic imbecility
Will Prime Minister Justin Trudeau please stop destroying Canada’s relations with the government of India?
It’s not in this country’s interest to do that.
Nor is it worthy of a prime minister to deflect attention from PMO security failures by giving credence to unsubstantiated accusations that “rogue elements” of the Indian government were responsible for a Canadian convicted of a terrorist act being invited by Canada to attend two of Trudeau’s functions in India last month.
It is grossly incompetent for the prime minister to allow this security screw-up by Canadian officials — which Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was gracious enough to overlook while Trudeau was in India — to escalate into a serious dispute with Modi’s government, which denies trying to sabotage the Trudeau visit.”

“Jaspal Atwal, a Surrey businessman, who is a one-time member of the now-banned International Sikh Youth Federation with a conviction for a 1986 terror-related shooting in B.C. posing with Surrey Centre Liberal MP Randeep Sarai, right.”
    …-
“New video casts doubt on Trudeau’s version of Atwal scandal
New video footage, uncovered by the Sun, casts doubt on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s explanation about what happened on his disastrous trip to India.
Just hours before news broke that a convicted Khalistani terrorist was part of Trudeau’s entourage in India, Liberal MP Randeep Sarai was interviewed on India Today and can be seen touting the Canada-India security relationship.
Sarai has since been thrown under the bus and blamed for inviting Jaspal Atwal — a B.C. Sikh convicted of the attempted murder of an Indian cabinet minister in B.C. in 1986 — to an official state dinner reception with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in India.
But last Wednesday, the rookie member of parliament was proudly discussing Canada’s approach to counter-terrorism and defending the federal government’s record in working with India.”

  10. I don’t believe for a second that this was a security screw-up. The invitation came from bongo himself as a reward to buddy for delivery of the Sikh vote. How else can it be explained?
Who paid for buddy’s trip? Was he on the government plane with the rest of the libranos?

But a leaked document outlining a strategy by a coalition of environmental groups to fight the project shows how far they are prepared to go to orchestrate outrage.
The proposed action plan — dubbed KM Action Hive Proposal — was leaked to British Columbia’s opposition Liberals and obtained by the Financial Post.

  18. Sad to hear of Ronnie Prophet’s passing. He was married to Saskatchewan’s own Glori-Anne Carriere – born in Gravelbourg. I had the pleasure of seeing them both perform in the Palm Springs area a couple of years ago at a Canadian Snowbirds Association gathering. They put on a great show to a very appreciative audience. RIP Ronnie.
