  15. You are not wrong. The allowance is for soldiers with a particular qualification which renders them liable for particular tasks and/or conditions beyond the norm. If they become unfit for those duties it is wrong to pay them extra while most soldiers not able to undertake those duties are not eligible for the extra allowances.
    Doesn’t change the fact that the Liberals find the military and it’s traditional values and culture distasteful and that they neglect and mismanage defence policy and the forces.

  16. It doesn’t matter any more anyway. In twenty years Canada will have a totally different population than it does now. If they think the country is worth defending, let them defend it. I spent almost twenty years wearing the uniform of this country, and the country that I defended doesn’t exist anymore. The country I live in now hates me and wants me gone, so my kids sure aren’t going to take the queen’s shilling. Who is going to invade me who hates me more than the people who are now my neighbours?

The federal gov’t is currently spending about 1% / year of GDP on its military while promising to spend 2% … it’s been this way for more than a decade, it will take a generation to catch up to the underfunding, and if Canada is ever attacked on its own soil, I do hope the attack starts in Toronto.

In fact, one of the main reasons why I took the Queen’s Shilling was to prevent in a small way the evil forces that gave my grandfather and my wife’s grandfather so much grief and killed so many of both our extended family members. Now, the brainwashed spawn of those evil forces control most of our media and educational facilities.
    I wonder if many of you are rushing to judgement as to how currently serving and retired forces members voted? I have seen no stats that would suggest most voted for the Liberals and I would like to see some evidence. But if people did vote Liberal, then, as Sean says, they deserve what they are getting.
    Furthermore, my take on the article and policy changes is that if those injuries were caused by over and above normal dangerous service such as behind the lines action, then there was additional pay. Maybe I am wrong.

  21. Marc, the attack has begun and it started some 20 years ago in the GTA. White faces no longer dominate in many areas and racist (Others vs Caucasians) aggressions are on the rise. I have personally been verbally assaulted and threatened in a heritage department store check out line and when I requested that the (Asian) cashier phone for Security she didn’t lift a finger. I witnessed other such instances, so I have since moved my residence well away, yet the malignancy keeps on expanding. Canada has become a non-serious country with serious issues. I doubt it will improve in my lifetime, if ever.

  22. I am currently serving. I think this is a reasonable policy change; however, it should not be applied retroactively. If you cannot perform your duties for a lengthy period of time, you should not receive special pay for performance of those duties. I am also of the perspective that we should have a stricter test than the FORCE test apply to all pers, and especially to combat arms pers (Reg and Res). I know it is tempting to politicize everything, but I think this is simply a reasonable policy amendment (aside from the retroactive application). My bet is that this policy amendment originated within CAF, rather than from the Minister’s office.

  24. As a former member I agree with VancouverGuy. Allowances are a way of compensating military personnel for undertaking risky or undesirable duty. Field pay, hazardous duty pay, isolation pay, jump pay, etc… are for those troops that do the hard and dirty wirk of soldiering. You shouldn’t be drawing jump pay if you’re working at a desk in Ottawa any more than you should draw hazardous duty pay working at Esqimalt.
    The same goes for those on medical category. If you’re no longer fit to serve in a parachute unit, there’s no reasonable expectation to keep drawing jump pay. The same goes for aircrew no longer fit to fly. And so on, and so on, etc…

  29. Why should the United States promise to defend those countries that refuse to keep their end of the NATO bargain?
    2% of GDP doesn’t sound like much, but Canada hasn’t spent that since Brian Mulroney was PM.
    If President Trump announced the dissolution of American membership in NATO until the rest of the deadbeats made up with their past decade’s financial arrears over say, 10 years, and kept their member’s spending at the agreed to rate of 2% what would the Globe and Mail / CBC / CTV / Liberals do about it? would they actually cry as the greater threats from around the world said “screw you Canada” the North Pole is ours now, (for example), and then blame Trump?
    And to further point out the incredible smallness of the latest Liberal volley at the military, current military spending is less than $20 billion, to make up for this military spending malfeasance the current spending would need to jump to $80 billion per year to make up for their past idiocy, then taper down to $40 billion, adjusted for inflation. The federal gov’t owns this. Not those currently serving.

    ANALYSIS/OPINION:
    I know of no white person alive today in the United States who has ever legally owned a black slave, or any slave for that matter. Almost 700,000 mostly white men died 160 years ago to end slavery. Jim Crow ended generations ago. Yet black America, for the most part, is still locked in inner-city gang violence and economic hardship. Why?
    Is it because America is racist? Is it because of some overhanging white supremacy? Is it because of the Illuminati?
    No, unfortunately, it is because of black culture and the adoption of Democratic Party government dependency.
    We have just had eight years of the first black president. Black athletes, and entertainers, routinely earn multi-million dollar incomes. I can easily name several black billionaires without even trying too hard. A large percentage of black America is very successful. But, it is not enough. Too many black youth are being left behind.
    And it is no one but black America’s fault.
    No one can solve this problem but black America. No one can throw enough money at it. We’ve tried that. Black America needs to look in the mirror and stop blaming others, especially white people.
    I am obviously white and conservative, and I served in the military, which, during my time, was as color blind as you could be. I can also honestly say I don’t give a damn what color your skin is, neither do any of my friends. I do care about your actions..
    Blacks are around 15 percent of the population. Depending on what study you look at, they commit around 40 percent to 50 percent of violent crime in America. Of course, there is going to be a problem with police. And, of course, there are some bad policemen. However, those bad apples do not kill black people statistically anymore than they kill white people. Even Harvard said that recently. If you were a cop, and you had to work in a neighborhood infested with crime and murder, wouldn’t you act differently than in a neighborhood where there was little crime? The most effective thing black America could do to improve its relationship with police is to significantly reduce violent crime where they live. Yes, that means change the culture of where you live and your community.
    I for one am tired of being blamed. I am tired of dealing with people who only want something from others. I don’t oppress anyone. I don’t hold anyone down. I’m tired of getting on the D.C.. metro and seeing white people being harassed by roaming gangs of black youth with their pants around their knees. Yes, you want a white person uncomfortable? That makes me uncomfortable. It’s our nation’s capital and it’s embarrassing.
    Blacks have nothing but opportunity in America. Try finding the same opportunity anywhere else in the world. If you are born in America you’ve won life’s economic lottery. Take advantage of it.
    The problem is this generation has been taught an agenda of cultural Marxism by our education system. They’ve been taught to be a victim, and it’s still going on. All you have to do is watch the young black, female student at Yale screaming at the college president to understand that. Blacks in America don’t even know how good they got it.
    Don’t kneel when my anthem is played. Too many people died for that flag. You are free to protest but not then. I am free to not watch, or pay to watch you play if you do that. The NFL should make it a rule that you stand for the national anthem. There is no free speech to disobey a private employer on private property. This would solve the problem immediately.
    The NFL has deeply offended most of America. They will pay an economic and reputational price, as they should.
    We have a real cultural problem in this country, the result of the Leftist multicultural agenda. Multi-ethnicity is perfect and should be encouraged. Having more than one American culture is destroying the country. But then again, that is what the Left wants.

It is a NATURAL thing that is imprinted on our DNA. I “discriminate” 24/7, I make “selections” of who I choose to associate with, and when I feel rational FEAR or DANGER. Yes, as a matter of fact, I DO cross to the other side of the street if I happen upon a group of young black men … hanging-out … apparently doing nothing in particular. But I do the same thing if it were a bunch of white suburban punks living on the streets of Portland panhandling. It is called discrimination … not racism. It is healthy. It is our inborn INSTINCT. Women have particularly sharp discrimination skills. Perhaps the smaller, more vulnerable, sex have evolved to SENSE danger from creepy men (of all colors). The female biological imperative gives women really sharp discrimination skills. It is a means for their very survival (and for reproducing HEALTHY progeny).
    And call it profiling … meh. It’s still NOT racism. Young black men driving automobiles are statistically FAR more likely to be; carrying drugs, carrying illegal weapons, be on parole, have a suspended license, etc. etc. So yeah … they’re “profiled” (discriminated against) by the POleece.
