Recently the Trump administration began the ‘close out’ of the ENERGY STAR program, essentially repealing the ENERGY STAR mandate which granted the EPA’S Billionaires Club a complete monopoly over all government procurement for decades. Media Foundations can’t afford to report on the ENERGY STAR repeal, because no other industry profited more from the Junk Science produced by this corrupt federal agency than members of the Liars Club. […]
ENERGY STAR is arguably the most corrupt federal program in US history, built entirely on myth, fraudulent scientific research and bogus technical reports. Which explains why most Americans have never heard of the ENERGY STAR program, and couldn’t locate a single shred of evidence supporting the EPA’s phony claims of hundreds of billions of dollars allegedly saved by EPA Partnerships.
How will media spin this fiasco ? The US has never developed a National Standard for the measurement and verification of energy efficiency in products, all energy-savings claimed are estimates made by bureaucrats. Yet lawyers somehow managed to turn the ENERGY STAR brand of ‘certified’ government energy efficiency into a multi-billion dollar commodity, and relied on mainstream media to promote their delusional energy-saving claims to the Global community.
Sorry, forgot the link! It’s here.

It looks like an interesting story Kate, but why no link? Coffee O’Clock on a Monday strikes again….
Sigh. It’s always about good INTENTIONS.
The thought process: “We can reduce our energy consumption and thus need less energy production if we make things that operate more efficiently. This will be a very positive good for the world where a surging population will require ever more energy to live in a 1st world style. Energy production uses resources and causes pollution. Thus we will try to minimize energy production increases through end use efficiency.” A good intention.
Thus we have LED lights, vehicle mileage goals, appliance efficiency goals, etc. Energy Star labels affixed to everyday appliances (hot water heaters, refrigerators, dish washers, etc) as well as windows/doors and computers would tell the public how much energy would be used.
And while there were some positive results of these efforts, they were achieved only by adding increased costs and, in reality, less desirable effects in other ways (glaring white light bulbs filled with mercury, smaller more expensive automobiles, appliances costing 3 times as much as before, dependability reductions, etc).
Energy efficiency of appliances was probably the worst of these goals. Not much can be done to electric motors to make them more efficient. The same with gas burners (furnaces, hot water heaters, stoves, ovens). (Yes, you can add or improve insulation but really, the gains are minimal.) And these two things are why Energy Star ratings are such a joke. Cost to benefit is zero even after years of use.
‘Cost to benefit is zero even after years of use’
The ratings are entirely meaningless and yet the energy star stickers are plastered on every appliance in the store and every province in Canada is on board with the scam.

Those “ratings” were always bullish!t and everybody knew it.
But they were forced down our throats anyway, along with low-flow shower heads, toilets, the ban on incandescent bulbs, the ban on phosphates in detergents (*there’s an easy way to get around that one) and other such nonsense.
The Green Blob is everywhere and it will take more than 4-8 years of Trump (assuming he doesn’t listen to his daughter and son-in-law) to purge this menace from our shores. But I’m worried. He’s already begun to soften his stance on the abomination that is the Paris Accord that he promised to ditch.
(*Go to your nearest commercial paint store and buy a box of Tri Sodium Phosphate {TSP…used to be available in auto parts stores here in the U.S. but no longer}. For dishwashers put in 1-2 tablespoons. For laundry put in 1/3 cup for a big load *AFTER* agitation has begun. Dishes and clothes will come out just like in the olden days! Plus you get the satisfaction of quietly saying GFY to the government nanny-staters.)
Energy Star equals the output of green theocracy in action. In a rational world, the cost of energy use is incentive enough to minimize its use. Low cost energy goes against everything the green priests stand for. High cost energy removes competitive advantage for industrial activity which is a blight on mother earth according to their scripture.
Same writer, different post.
“I found this out the hard way when I tried marketing a new type of energy-efficiency technology for large electrical motors, but was forced through a gauntlet of government bureaucrats determined to “Level The Playing Field” and “Eliminate Barriers”. Competition was not allowed, and government agencies could simply ban the use of disruptive technologies that challenged the supremacy of the ENERGY STAR brand of ‘certified’ energy-savings.”

I would say good. Not much more needed.
Now … would you like me to get started “LEED” certification ? And how multiple so-called LEED PLATINUM buildings actually USED and leaked more energy than their non-rated counterparts ? There have been countless examples that proved the whole “rating” business is just another green SCAM. Same thing with the Green Point Rating System for residential and non-residential construction. Just a bunch of greenish-virtue-signaling nonsense.
Hmm a quasi-gov’t agency “fraudulent scientific research and bogus technical reports”, ENERGY STAR brand, which is allegedly producing multi-billion dollar revenues in Global markets from ‘certified’ energy-efficiency. “No technological breakthroughs were involved in this miracle, only the reshuffling of words on paper were required to create incredible value for this rare commodity.” Where have I heard all this before? EPA meet CSA!
Not much can be done to electric motors to make them more efficient. The same with gas burners (furnaces, hot water heaters, stoves, ovens).
Incorrect. Just two examples:
ECMs are DC motors that function using a built-in inverter and a magnet rotor, and as a result are able to achieve greater efficiency than some kinds of AC motors.
The standing pilot ignition system is not as efficient as an electronic gas ignition system. It uses gas even during off cycles of the main burner. The standing pilot ignition system also adds heat to the system even in the summer. This causes lower overall system efficiency.
You are quite correct. LEED certification was a big scam from the get-go. In fact many certification schemes are big scams by regulatory agencies to increase their over-reach and revenues, with little or no improvement in performance.
It should be Reduce, reuse, REPAIR, REPURPOSE, recycle. But those two extras were eliminated, ensuring the marketplace could be flooded with cheap ‘energy-saving’ crap. At best it gets recycled after too short a lifespan. Repairing most items is no longer possible.
And for some reason, energy efficient also means short life span. I have only anecdotal evidence, for instance, 20 years for my first washer, 7 for a new energy efficient front loading one, same for dishwashers and the cycles on dishwashers are now an hour instead of 20 – 30 minutes. I know I try to avoid buying anything with a circuit board since those are the first parts to go (thankfully, I had an extended warranty and so the circuit board on my stove, located above the self-cleaning oven door, was replaced when it overheated and fried.)
Instinctively, repairing and not having to manufacture a replacement item has got to be more energy efficient than constantly tossing something out to buy new.
But I guess remember 5 Rs was too hard. So we tossed out the number one way of keeping things from landfill and reducing consumption and, along the way, tossed out a number of jobs as well. Now, even if you want to repair something, getting parts is hard but getting a repairman is even harder.
