  1. No point in screwing the west over just in pipelines and carbon taxes, might as well throw a few more things in the way. Anything to stop our rebuilding process. Time to take a hike

  2. Where’s that picture of Harper that says: “Miss Me Yet?”
Junior is doing his old man proud: screw the west every chance you get!!

  3. “Skrepnek said CertainTeed has gypsum production plants in Vancouver, Calgary and Winnipeg, but the operations are only able to supply between 40 and 60 per cent of the building needs in Western Canada.”
Dumping? It seems U.S. product isn’t cutting into CertainGreed’s ability to supply 40-60 percent of what is needed to rebuild Fort Mac.
Tariff protection, as in the past, keeps producers from upgrading/modernizing their facilities in order to produce with more efficiency. If CertainGreed were rowhouse/apartment owners renting out property, we might rightly call them slumlords.
    So much for free trade.
Zoolander better keep his yap shut if Trump becomes POTUS and makes good on his claim to impose tariffs on foreign goods, starting with Canada.
    Consequences.

  4. Get ready for more of the same and worse as both Trump and Clinton are pimping protectionism. One Eastern drywall manufacturer whining (and winning) today and in a month, the entire Canadian lumber industry will pay dearly!

  5. “both Trump and Clinton are pimping protectionism”
You can be sure that the only thing Clinton will be protecting is the Clinton Foundation bank account.
As soon as some foreign donor wants access to the U.S. market they will just pony up a donation and get access.
    It’s that simple.
*IF* Trump is a multi-billionaire as he claims, it won’t be so easy getting a waiver from him.

  6. Does this mean the tariffs don’t apply in the eastern half of Canada and Nunavut? If so, there’s an interesting business opportunity there.

  7. “CertainTeed has gypsum production plants in Vancouver, Calgary and Winnipeg, but the operations are only able to supply between 40 and 60 per cent of the building needs in Western Canada.”
I’m guessing CertainTeed wasn’t getting competition in western Canada until the U.S. drywall manufacturers started competing(read dumping) with them and lowering the cost of drywall.
The implication is that there are Eastern Canadian drywall manufacturers who can and do already supply the needs of Eastern Canada.
CertainTeed ran crying to the Liberal Party of Canada because competition from the U.S. lowered the cost of drywall and was cutting into CertainGreed’s expected profit line.
CertainGreed was only able to supply 40-60 of needed drywall?
Gee, short supply means higher prices.(law of supply and demand)
Why would they want U.S. companies to make up the shortfall and cut costs by actually meeting the demand?

  8. correction:
Why would they want U.S. companies to make up the shortfall and cut PROFITS by actually meeting the demand?

  9. They have had a busy week. And give them credit they know who butters their bread. I wonder who made the “donation ” . And I feel safer already . You see they are going to prevent gun violence. Before you go to murder someone you will have to get a permit to move your restricted firearm. That will stop them!!! Give it a couple of years they will have us starving in the West and you won’t even have a gun to hunt something to eat . I , for one , will now go shopping for sunglasses. I need the for these ” sunny ways ” .

  10. We started importing drywall from China, but by 2009 there was plenty of evidence it gave off toxic fumes, followed by Court cases and class action lawsuits.
Drywallers I worked with said the stuff was garbage, didn’t break cleanly, crumbled from the corners.
But,I can’t find out on the internet if drywall is still being imported to Canada from China.
They may increase the duty on American drywall, but I wonder what the situation is re Chinese made drywall,or is that part of Trudeau’s new trade agreement with China?

  11. I just bought a sheet of drywall from my local Home Depot … for the first time in years. It seems as though the entire core has been reworked from clean, white, gypsum … into some brown recycled-looking rag core. It absolutely did NOT break clean, but is ragged and even required that I use my rasp to smooth the edges. I sure hope this crap can resist FIRE ! … and won’t cause cancer from all the off-gassing of recycled “product” and glues.

  12. It is an American private firm. This is an opportunity for some Canadian entrepreneur to get busy and supply western Canada.

  13. Certain Greed could have started a temporary third shift. Oh No. Much easier to call in a few Liberal favors.

  14. They want to keep the price up at the same level of expenditure and same wear on the factory components with no competition from the U.S.
It’s textbook crony capitalism, aka fascism.
Will CertainGreed be getting any of those tariffs? No, they just get to keep the price high.

  15. I found out today this tariff will add $1400 to the price of boarding my new house. CertainTeed raised their prices as well.

  16. And why not raise their prices? Zoolander’s regime just handed CertainGreed a monopoly.
I thought there were anti-trust laws against such a thing.

  17. I think they quit importing because it was so bad. Around here many were boarding by the foot, and that shit just slowed you down, and we all know, time is money.
