If you scroll down and read the comments then you’ll understand the glaring omission from people who praise German renewables – biomass. Activists would like you to think that renewables are only wind and solar and that installed capacity is the same as actual electricity production (wind produces only about 20-25% of capacity). In reality, Germany and many other EU countries rely on biomass for the majority of their actual renewable production/consumption. In the same breath that activists mock fossil fuels as old technology they hide the fact that Big Green relies on even older technology, wood burning, which still produce C02 emissions but they have been deemed carbon neutral. Remember when environmentalists wanted to save the forests and hated logging.
To be fair, if you refuse nuclear technology and don’t have access to hydro then biomass is the only reliable form of “green” power.
Intermittent power producers can’t afford the cost of conditioning the grids to make their power usable and that’s why they rely on the rate payers to pay that cost so good luck getting lower prices.

The enviro-twits have an unusual perspective on CO2. The CO2 from burning biomass is immediately sucked up by the plants and trees nearby, however CO2 from fossil fuels goes straight up into the atmosphere where it makes the planet warmer.
Exactly. Fossil fuels are merely and older, more energy concentrated version of biomass. How is harvesting plant debris from the Carboniferous Period worse than burning recently growing plants? Except for fossil fuels having superior kJ/kg and fewer water related combustion issues in thermal plants, of course. You have to burn far more trees to get the same heating value of high grade coal, oil and natgas.
none of this stuff will ever work. oil, gas, and coal will keep us warm for hundreds of more years. nukes will produce power long after every wind turbine has crumbled to rust in the dirt. if only rational thought was part of the human genome.
