The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that tens of thousands of Métis and non-status Indians are the responsibility of the federal government, ending a 17 year court battle.

We are all Métis now?
The federal government started registering Indians in Newfoundland and quickly got over 100,000 out of 500,000 population despite the fact the local population had been exterminated in colonial times. I suspect that isn’t the half of it. Some of my ancestors are 400 years out of Europe. It would be unusual if I wasn’t part Indian. I call for a brand new Half-Breed Association to protect the rights of half-breeds that appear to be white. I use the term half-breed out of respect of the mixed race people who were definitely not Metis, such as the Scotch half-breeds.
In my family’s oral tradition, I am descended from 1,000 chiefs so I am a pretty big deal in the Indians that appear to be white circle.

Given how badly the “Indian Act” is working out for status Indians, I am not sure why the Metis are “ecstatic” about this decision. Do they want to give up their chance for a normal productive life in favour of being a dependent on the State? This is not good for anybody.

This decision was inevitable,especially given that many of the folks who describe themselves as Metis actually have as much Indian blood as those who languish on Reserves and call them selves Indians.
Big difference in the contribution to Canadian society is, the Metis worked for a living, the Rez Indians were more inclined to seek handouts.

Back in the 80’s on the long form census questionnaire they posed this: Do you consider yourself metis? I guess they were trying to determine how many meetis people they had in the country. Many replied in the affirmative thinking there must be something in it for them. No actual proof is required to establish your back ground….. you only had to think you were. It is a sort of – I think therefore I am.
You’d think that with how the Canadian government historically has handled the Indian question that they would say, ‘Never Again’.

Eventually the Bureaucracies controlled by the Progressive/Liberal will combine the Reservation Indigenous people and Community Funded groups into one Collective Location; possibly called by some alternative term for Concentration.
The Metis are big part of Manitoba. They have lived and worked side by side with us.

Ruling is too exclusive. Indigenous people should include anyone born in Canada, no one chose to be born here.

So the SCOC has just poked the Liberal ‘multiculturalism’ con in the eye with a sharp stick. Evidently there can be no assimilation in Canada as the judicial system has just stated that “A Canadian is not necessarily a Canadian”. (That statement has a ring to it something along the conscription line.) We now have a judicially segregated nation. We have the ‘White Colonialists’ descendants, you know the people that build this society, and we have on the other side those people that prey on the ‘White Guilt’ and demand that they be compensated. At what point does the SCOC become irrelevant? Is there room for the SCOC in the healing circles of the medicine lodge, or in the mosques of Sharia courts, where will it end?
Why not go full SCOC wet dream and extinguish all sovereignty of the Crown and the entity called Canada. That would mean we are all living on various Indian tribal lands without any “white man’s” law. It also means no taxes, no bureaucrats, no laws against shooting Indians or anyone else, no Indian Affairs and dole for Indians, and no treaties. Perhaps the 97% of humanity without the 1/16 or better racial purity criterion could negotiate a more equitable arrangement under such a situation or at least create a Newfoundland racial demographic in the process. Bannock is a flat bread eaten by Plains Indians and Metis.
It’s sort of similar in taste and texture to East Indian naan bread.
