UnitedHealth, the country’s largest insurer, announced last month that it would no longer advertise its ObamaCare plans over the next year and may pull out completely in 2016 — a move that sent shockwaves across the healthcare sector.
Hemsley’s remarks double down on his earlier warning that the ObamaCare exchanges remain weaker than expected after two years and that it will take far longer for insurers to profit from the millions of new enrollees.
The company had already eyed ObamaCare’s federal marketplace cautiously since it launched in 2013. UnitedHealth only began selling plans on the exchanges last year.
Now, UnitedHealth officials have said that move will result in a half-billion dollars in losses over two years.
Of course it was designed to fail. You can’t have singe payer government control if any of the private sector can show they can do it cheaper and more efficiently.
If Hillary wins the Dems will try to go single payer.
But they will fail – both houses of congress will prevent it and the chaos will be enormous.
If Rubio or Cruz win obamacare will be dismantled in the first ninety days – completely if the senate Dems haven’t enough votes to filibuster. Otherwise it will be defunded and and become moribund.
Gord, I truly wish you are right. But, even with a repub win, the congress and the supremes are still hanging on like a rotten August pumpkin. There are just too many in the house and senate that have sold their country for “what’s in it for me?” I also have a sick feeling over the supreme court. They don’t act like impartial students of the Constitution. It’s like they are advertising for the highest bidder.
Gord, I have no faith in Rubio. He is a go along, get along senator. His first major legislative act was to be bamboozled by Schumer and McCain into the Gang of Eight Amnesty proposal. Boehner and McConnell ran on repealing Obamacare and cutting the budget. So far thay have not even sent a repeal bill from the House to be filibustered by the Senate. And they passed another (expletive deleted) continuing resolution last month. But they are working hard on crony capitalism like EX-IM bank & TPP, and giving away the bomb to Iran.
Why? Despite losses, Insurance Companies love themselves some Obamacare. Everyone has to buy a policy, and in a few short years there will only be one or two choices in each state as the companies divide up the state markets. Talk about monopoly power! Ask your congress critter, are the insurance company lobbyists demanding Obamacare Repeal? Why not?

Cautiously? Let’s be clear here: If the American taxpayer wanted it, then the Obama government wouldn’t have to use Armed Tactical Agent Forces of the IRS to MAKE people join the ACA exchanges …OR ELSE!

The US has three forms of single payer health care: Medicare, Medicaid, and the Veteran’s Administration. The rest is mostly mandated up the wazoo and insured privately and expensively (Obamacare). The plan was to make it so expensive that Americans would demand single payer. The only “truly private” healthcare is “concierge” (direct payment from recipients to providers) who offer discounts to avoid third party hassles. Unless the Republicans change it, they will drive “truly private” health care outside the Country, like Canada. Mexico, India and Thailand now offer inexpensive quality health care for “health tourists”. Canadian Indian Reserves should do so as well.
