  1. Purge.
Prison for those convicted of fraud and abuse of their former positions.
Rebuild at one tenth the size with no public service unions and no pensions.

  2. The civil service is fundamentally corrupt. Not in the sense of individual employees taking bribes or embezzling (though of course there are individuals who will do that in any public organisation or private company) but as members of the public service unions they either actively support or they refrain from dissent against the union policies that mean the civil service’s reason for existence is not to serve Canada but for Canada to serve them.

  3. A well paid papaer pushers waste were afraid of being removed from the money tree.
What a load of bottom feeders.
    Though well paid.

  4. The civil service is overwhelmingly staffed by liberals who consider it their sacred duty to carry out whatever it is they consider the requirements for a liberal agenda. They view conservative governments as somehow illegitimate and unworthy of running a government. They obviously consider it insulting and degrading for conservative ministers to have the nerve to either cut spending or shift spending priorities within departments.

  5. So Hillary was glad that someone who killed a US medic was freed. Isn’t that odd? Do Americans know this? Mind you, she made human sacrifices in Benghazi.

  6. “In my many years here I have never seen such open disloyalty with a change of administrations”
The civil service consider themselves the “EXPERTS” in Canadian affairs…It comes with the arrogance & superiority of British “CROWN” interests that supersede the simple commoner’s democracy. I have seen the same preference given to civil servants in Canadian Court proceedings. They must swear allegiance to the Crown (Queen)

  7. The way I saw the CBC present it it was the CPC that was at fault – iow that the disloyal state employees were the ones in the right.
This is an issue that countries like the US et al have dealt with a long time ago. Last i heard when a Obama took over from GWB something like 200,000 civil servants were fired. Essentially the top command and control positons in government are political positions. Which they ARE. In CDA far too much of the senior civil service – especially in places like foreign affairs – are career positions. That needs to change when the CPC resumes control of the HoP.

  8. Why don’t we fund external affairs from fees we can extract from potential immigrants. Maybe a $10,000 application fee. All these “refugees” could easily afford it. The usually come from the privileged class in their countries.

  9. I found the same thing in Calgary, dealing with Canadian Government Business offices shortly after Harper was first elected. The employees were livid and were prepared to sabotage our business dealings in order to make the new government look bad. They did not even try to hide it. The ones in the local office were better than those in the east, but it was apparent from both that they were very partisan, citizens be damned!

  10. Any reasonable person sees that Clinton’s emails show her to be an incompetent and a liar. No classified material? How about over a thousand … so far and not counting the 32,000 deleted ones. Admissions that she knew “the video” had nothing to do with the attack on the embassy in Benghazi. The CBC looks at them and sees another way to attack Stephen Harper. Why am I not surprised?

  11. I do not like links to CBC websites. It adds to their hit count and makes me feel dirty. I would rather be linked to a disgusting porn site than anything to do with CBC. Maybe post a warning first so we have the option to avoid.

  12. I couldn’t really find one overtly supportive comment about the Harper Gov’t in that entire CBC story post. A lot of commenters gleefully showed off the effects of their Harper Derangement Syndrome for all. Harper was portrayed as a tyrant control freak permeating the “stink” of Christian values in the esteemed halls of Canadian bureaucratic wizardry.
Best advice is to clean house on Day 1 of senior bureaucrats and team build from the ground up to get departments aligned with policy. The degree of subversion that the Conservatives had to deal with is breathtaking. It dramatically negates any long term effect of the good done from Harper’s policies.

  13. Chainsaw to ever single Ministry of Checkin za Paperz.
How many of these assholes get paid just to get out of the way?
    They’re evil and deliberate.
    It’s simple, here’s how.
“When we started this process with the Department of Transportation, it had 5,600 employees. When we finished, it had 53. When we started with the Forest Service, it had 17,000 employees. When we finished, it had 17. When we applied it to the Ministry of Works, it had 28,000 employees. I used to be Minister of Works, and ended up being the only employee. ”

  14. Just limit all public sector salaries to $200,000 per year and watch the rats flee the ship.

  15. Not all departments in the civil service were unremittingly hostile, but DFAIT was the worst.

  16. Did you expect to? The CBC is nothing more than the Liberal propaganda machine. Not dismantling the monstrosity was the biggest failure of the Harper government.

  17. I worked as a contractor for both federal, provincial and state governments (in the US) and the federal government is by far the most inept. It’s unbelievable how incompetent they can be. The only solution is to fire them all and outsource major business functions to the private sector. At least move the damn offices out of Ottawa for pete’s sake. Half of them are quebec numbskulls.

  18. Gordon McBean springs to mind, all his fellow travellers advised the conservatives that no crime had been committed and they could not prosecute the inherent theft in Environment Canada transferring $65 million to a private “think Tank”…. now chaired by said honourable ex-civil servant.
    Government is useless.
We are living the proof of this today.
Charged with the most basic duties of civil society, they promise an infinitude and deliver slavery.
Law, equality before those laws for Every Citizen.
National security, so that Citizens can enjoy the advantages of our choices.
    Instead we have social engineering.
Salvation being force-fed to our children, salvation from an imaginary doom.
State control of the prerequisites necessary to have informed citizens, complete with the standardized ineptitude, incompetence and petty authoritarian plays.
Conservatives lacked the nerve to fire all the permanent bureau heads and they paid the price.
The Harper Derangement folks foam at the mouth, but look at what he had to play with.
    The Kleptocracy cannot be reformed.
1 Too many voters are on the take.
2 The take is heavily disguised
3 Politicians are easy to buy, confuse and misdirect, F.U.D. is the business of the bureau.
4 Reform has to work inside the law, these laws are now interpreted by thieves, for their own interests.
5 Read the 5 laws of human stupidity.
Just as squeezing a zit before it is ready, is useless, the bloated civil service has to run out of victims before it collapses.
Western Canada would save ourselves a world of pain by separating form the east as soon as possible, but we hold to the conventional forms even as they are used to kill us.
The inherent insanity of all our little statist friends is their confidence that they can manage our lives for us, down to the most excruciating details as what type of lightbulb we may purchase, then that we will be so grateful for their untiring help and concern that we will hand over the bulk of our return on labour for their employment.
Never occurs to them that we may chose to stop producing, they say we could not afford to do that.
    Maths is hard I guess.
Many actually see themselves as the saviours of civilization, rather than the small minded production nobbling halfwits we get to interface with on a near daily basis.
A classic example of this rot is displayed in most every government office.
A notice to the “public” advising us how we may address our “employees”. There is no confusion as to who is working for who in these missives and they have gangs of uniformed thugs to ensure your civility.
In the face of their uncivil incompetence.

  19. We knew it all along. The “civil” service is as partisan as siht and should be purged.

  20. I can’t wait to fill in the obligatory long-form census.
I worked as a census officer one time and I can tell you how hated that long-form was. It was a cuss trying to get people to fill it in.
But it was a boon to bureaucrats.

  21. You hit the high point in running this article with the commentary “Purge”. But the “subtlety” perhaps missed is the unwavering efforts to sugar coat everything about the new government by the media. The American diplomats said that their Canadian counterparts in 2006 were showing “open disloyalty” to the new government of PM Harper. The headline tamps that down to “discontent.” Now I can grumble as a civil servant and even privately advise a new set of political task masters elected by the voters, but “open disloyalty” is a fire-able offence on any job. So if there ever is a change in government, it would appear that those in the Foreign Affairs Department who didn’t understand that they were supposed to be loyal to Canada, not the Liberal Party, should be fired.
And, although the news story started on the CP and the headline wasn’t changed by the CBC, the same holds true for the sycophantic Liberal media operatives masquerading as journalists at the CBC.

  22. The Canadian Civil service & CBC sold-out Canada to the USA Democrats…Who would have guessed? Yes the Liberals have a false face, history shows they have always wanted to join the USA, but Ontario has historically voted Canada-first (Conservative of old) so they hide behind treason
The actions of the Canadian Civil servants is treason beyond doubt! The 2016 Republican presidency will clean house in the USA and insure Canadian spies are not welcome.. Anywhere!

  23. I don’t think any western country will ever experience anything akin to what New Zealand did ever again. The entire western world seems hell-bent on destroying itself with socialism, collectivism, what have you, and conservatives have been outright branded as EVIL for daring to oppose it. Canada’s culture, right down to its core, is Liberal. Big-L Liberal. Conservatives are just expected to “mind the store” when the “natural governing party” needs a time out. And it will be at least 8, if not 12, before the next “time out”.
As easily predicted, the NL PCs fell last night. Brad Wall now stands alone as the only conservative-minded premier in the country, and the Conservative brand is now out of power everywhere. I do fear we are entering a long period of political exile, and of socialist ascendancy.
Enjoy the decline, folks. Nothing else we can do at this point.

  24. Conservatives should be taking notes. Day one – CBC gets punted along with every other cultural subsidy. Day two – Bell gets broken into several pieces. Day three and on – every ambassadorship is a political appointee. Start hiring diplomats out of business and engineeringcvegica schools and the army instead of the fruity Liberal wimps out of social science and humanities programs. Once everyone realizes there are consequences for playing politics things might improve.

  25. We have 100 seats in the fed parliament. An Ontario leader who may actually, like, you know, lead and win against Wynne. I’m not so down as you. We have to weather 4 years of the boy wonder, but I suspect the shine will wear off pretty quick.

  26. The civil service did not like the Harper government because they were used to running the show. There was a cynical resistance to change. The comments at the CBC are enough to make a person vomit. The left still does not understand that they are the problem. They will complain about things like Harper being “divisive” or “not listening” — yet fail to comprehend that that the left was creating the divisiveness because of the failure to accept any decisions being made by the Conservatives. If the Conservatives did anything, they would rant endlessly . . . even where the decisions were quite sensible (and there were many sensible decisions). Somehow leftists seemed to think that Conservatives should have been custodians of Liberal policies and not make any changes. Hatred for the Conservatives was ideologically driven to the point of mass hysteria. Intolerance thrives on the left. I have lost all respect for the civil service in Canada.

  27. Harper may have been defeated by his own decency and penchant for incremental change. These Federal Public Servants have betrayed the public trust.

  28. Agree 100% to warning of a CBC link. So I tortured myself and read further to some comments. Are we in trouble or what?
