I Felt A Great Disturbance In The Narrative

Alan Kurdi’s father worked with human smuggler and captained boat that capsized, survivor says…

An Iraqi woman who was on the same boat as Alan Kurdi, the boy whose body washed up on a Turkish beach last week, says his father was in charge of the boat that capsized, drowning many of the migrants on board.
The woman, Zainab Abbas, lost two of her own children on the fateful crossing, and is now back in Iraq. She told Channel Ten news in Australia in an interview that Abdullah Kurdi was driving the boat. She also accused him of being part of a ring of smugglers who help refugees make their way to Europe.

But wait! There’s more!
Update: A third passenger confirmed their version of events…

  1. So…Canada should be doing more to ensure that smugglers know how to operate boats safely?

  2. I can’t find the link at my usual sources (Blazing Cat Fur; Conservative Treehouse; and Weasel Zippers) but there has also been a seaborne shipping container seized that was supposed to be humanitarian aid for the “Syrian refugees” that was full of weapons.

  3. Exactly. And another sad part of this is that the public’s perception of this whole sordid affair has already been set by all the misinformation and smears against Harper by CBC, CTV, Global and the rest of filthy MSM.

  4. One of the things about the story that doesn’t make sense to me, and would lend credence to this report – Abdullah’s sister gave him 1000 euros to make the crossing, but it actually costs 1000 euro per person (reported everywhere). So where did the other 3000 euros come from unless he had some sway with the people organizing the crossing, ie him.

  5. It’s posted on ctvnews.ca. Not at cbcnews.ca. That being said, both have generous portions of anti-Harper drivel.

  6. The father’s story was fishy from the start as his recounting of the drowning of his family was very different in the version told to The Guardian and the one told to The Daily Mail.

  7. The more we learn the more this story stinks. I do believe we in the West are being played for chumps. Prediction – the flood of “refugees” will only grow, as will their demands when they arrive where they are headed, and, ultimately, what we decline to give them they will take.

  8. As a matter of crisis management, I’d say It’s time for a Media Party “reset”. My advice to them would be to bait and switch, and bring up Mike Duffy for once.

  9. Initially the story had to fit the left’s narrative. Reshaping the story to fit their preconceived notions is a specialty they have mastered. Facts be damned, there’s a crisis to be exploited ! When it falls apart, just shut up and wait for the next crisis. No shortage. Chief Spence on starvation watch,….only had fish broth….
Can’t remember CBC acknowledging the fact that she actually looked like she had gained weight. Amazing broth.

  10. The political elites and their bleeding hear followers are signing our death warrant with each additional muslim they let into the western world.
In case I don’t get the opportunity later, I will say “I told you so” right now …. wait for it … wait for it.

  11. Honestly, how is he going to use this? The story about refugees is out there now and the little boy picture was just the fuse that lit the media. If he starts talking conspiracy he’ll be demonized even more. He should, however, use Mulcair’s promise to pull ground support out as an issue. There could be traction there.
I agree that he needs to do something. It will be interesting to see how their new advisor, The Wizard of Aus, turns this campaign around.

  12. But according to this heroic father who tried desperately to save his wife and children, (2 or 3 different stories there), their deaths are on Canada’s (Harper’s) head. Was it because we failed to provide boating lessons? He’s a liar, but his story makes good copy – for the gullible and the leftists.

  13. Is it possible to be astounded and unsurprised at the same time?
Why are there so many people who appear unable to recognize this for what it is, an invading army that will change, (and by ‘change’ I mean destroy), Europe forever?
Surely, at some point, individual self-preservation reflexes should kick in?

  14. If Abdullah Kurdi was partially following a Canadian application
which CBC is still claiming, what would be the role of Turkish authorities? Since he had been there working several years, it is unlikely they would consider him a refugee. Any Canadian agreement would surely require documents and so on from Turkey. These could not have been readily available, hence the illegal smuggling route he chose.
How long would it take a competent journalist to unravel this? In Canada a very long time.

  15. I’d love to see Harper call a press conference, and then slap his hand on the podium and ask the media to apologize to Canadians for calling us intolerant and for blaming Harper for that child’s death. Then state if he wins he’ll ask the media’s governing body to investigate the media for collusion and writing false media reports in order to effect the election in a negative manner for Conservatives.

  16. I watched PM Harper on CPAC this morning and thought him in fine form. He moved from English to French with ease, repeating his points in each official language. He rejected a reporter’s question that was premised with the notion that “experts” said he was handling terrorism all wrong, noting that he had had the Air India inquiry, was aware of many events in Canada that existing security forces had thwarted and even had a line about the real enemy being ISIS, not CSIS — adding that he thought the “other guys” didn’t understand that.
I’d love it if he proposed one on one debates. Him and Mulcair in one. Him and Trudeau in the other. The multi-leader “debates” are freak shows, with Elizabeth May interrupting to get attention notwithstanding that a snowball has a better chance of lasting in hell than she does of being elected and Mulcair and Trudeau play a weird tag team when on the stage together. Have them one by one with Harper and people will understand who the real leader is.

  17. He can’t do that. But he can ask of a reporter asking an obviously loaded question, such as prefacing her question with a Trudeau speech, if she is a member of UNIFOR and if so, then he can ask her whether she supports their campaign to oust the Conservatives.

  18. I sense that the baby-on-the-beach exploitation has died today. Fin Delwhatever should resign for having besmirched Canada’s international reputation.

  19. The media were all pro “Arab Spring”, remember? They hate to be caught out on their “stories”.

  20. RHR said: “The more we learn the more this story stinks. I do believe we in the West are being played for chumps.”
Uh Yeah, since when haven’t they been spinning manipulative narratives? – It’s their biz – it’s done to sway the election for their patrons – and it’s quite obvious

  21. I’m waiting for the announcement by Trudeau and/or Mulcair to announce the creation of the “Smugglers Safety Program” and ‘non faulty life vest insurance premiums’…
so they can bypass immigration completely via investment type bribery.
After all children should have milk and cookies and not have to take ‘dirt naps’!
    Cheers

  22. Waiting fir apology from CBC.
The hair lipsperer and angry tom
Also a finance lesson or a refinance lesson in 11 parts
And a free snowboard lesson from t’other

  23. EXTREME SARCASM ALERT
Oh what about the real story, the refugee who actually applied, well his sister did, and it was a letter, and they were told more information was required. Now, here, why does that matter?
Mr Alexander, fly them, all of them, home to us immediately!!! Just a second, I need to have a cry.
That’s “what Canadians want,” right? No? Has the left handed Harper an issue?
Yes ladies & gents, here is the winner of this years’ political blithering idiot award. I don’t think he can be caught:
“Glavin: Let’s talk about the Kurdi family we did turn away.”
    http://ottawacitizen.com/opinion/columnists/glavin-lets-talk-about-the-kurdi-family-we-did-turn-away
Too bad comments were disabled eh? There were some doozies.

  24. Being obsessive about correct spelling myself, I wondered about that too. However, I’ve since read two reports that stated the correct spelling is indeed Alan — an irrelevant bit of trivia given the tragedy of the little boy’s death.
    http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/sep/08/bild-photos-aylan-kurdi-complaints
But this short paragraph from the same article is telling:
“The Independent was the only UK paper to choose the more distressing image of Alan for its front page.
Independent editor Amol Rajan defended the use of the picture on Saturday, writing: “Ultimately, we felt – and still do – that the power to shock is a vital instrument of journalism, and therefore democracy. Our motivation wasn’t avaricious; it was to shock the world into action.”
Well, at least The Independent recognizes that it was manipulating its readers.

  25. I didn’t understand what he was getting at, either.
All the noise was caused by the photograph of the deceased on the beach, and his family had not even sent in its application for refugee status, despite, according to Glavin, its being complete as to supporting documentation. Glavin appears to simply be parroting Fin Donnelly’s line to the effect that, “the facts I gave were wrong, but the narrative is correct”.
And how, exactly, does Glavin expect a minister to intervene to expedite an application when there is either a) no application or b) incomplete supporting documentation? Sort of defeats the whole purpose of having a system, doesn’t it? Abdullah had all of his docs; why didn’t Muhammed speak with his brother about how he had obtained them? There has to be some responsibility on the part of the family to make sure the paperwork is in order — the government can’t be expected to do that for them. Or is there something seriously wrong with me for thinking this, as Glavin implies?
Besides which, what makes this particular family’s plight any more pressing than the plight of any other family — other than the notorious photograph and other than having a NDP MP (rookie, I think) who feels that queue-jumping is perfectly acceptable (and they do, don’t they)? And why would a minister want to get into the business of picking and choosing who gets in and who doesn’t? That would very quickly become a never-ending can of worms, and would be fraught with claims (real or imagined) of discrimination, lack of standards and political interference. It’s true that Alexander could have written Mr. Donnelly back explaining the reasons for his decision not to intervene, but any logical person should have realized that in this type of situation skirting the rules was a long-shot.

  26. Yes Harper should go full bore on the terrorism isis issue and don’t let up.Trudeau and Mulcair are weak and wishy washy on this issue and Canadians want a leader to keep them safe.Have to laugh at lawyer who wants Wizard of Oz canned as Harpers advisor. The media party is getting scared and desperate at Harpers rise in polls lately.
