  1. Correct me of I am wrong, but I am pretty sure Quebec doesn’t allow vouchering and hasn’t for decades. You would think a former Quebec MLA like Mr. Mulcair would know that rather than declare the new (and long overdue) EC rules the biggest challenge to Canada’s democracy ever.
Currently a utility bill with your name and address on it suffices for ID. In today’s age of scanners, colour laser printers and photoshop the potential for voter fraud via bogus utility bills is enormous.

  2. Mr. Coyne has never seen a fence he didn’t want to straddle. Fence straddling is not a knowledge-intensive endeavor. Good thing too, because Andy doesn’t appear to know his @** from a hole in the ground.

  3. Coyne and everyone else who has been making such a big stink about vouching should be embarrassed. I look forward to Coyne’s explanation for being totally complacent about the Ontario issue (He lives in Ontario doesn’t he?) while pillorying Conservatives over the same issue.

  4. I’m still bitter about that long-form census thing – my world has never recovered.

  5. News flash for Mulcair and the chattering class is that the new EC rules do not go far enough to ensure real democracy. If they did, they would require proof of citizenship and would not accept most of the forms of ID being accepted. As for Coyne and all his fellow travellers it reminds me of the claim that the country would fall apart if the long form census was not kept mandatory.

  6. One thing I would love to see is the dipping of ones index finger in indelible ink once one has finished voting.
Not only would it prevent double voting it would come to be seen as a badge/symbol of citizenship and may even increase voting levels.

  7. “Is this considered “incomprehensible” or “partisan blather”?”
Coyne should know….he spends all day yammering on in both and in leftard.

  8. You got that right! Can you imagine the brouhaha if the long-form census had been imposed on the citizenry where it had never existed? The caterwauling would be deafening.
A more useless exercise there never was! The agricultural long-form (for example) was a frickin’ ordeal. Easier to fabricate info than to interpret BS scenarios. So I’m sure the conclusions are 100% representative and accurate!
If I recall, the option existed for those wishing to complete the Long Form was available. I’d bet about 0.37% of the bitchers asked for that privilege in order to fall in line and suck up to Big Brother like the little pussies they are! (Or am I underestimating the pussy factor?)

  9. How many “undocumented” Americans or invisible biracial transsexual Muslims can vote if so vouched?
I don’t know why people of voting age can’t give their vital statistics, one fingerprint and pass an IQ test in order to vote in this country.

  10. I find it odd that of the 37 pieces of ID acceptable in the new bill, a valid Canadian Pilot Licence is not among them! But the hydro bill is…

  11. this is my brother MOHAMID,this is my brother MOHAMID,this is my brother MOHAMID,this is my brother MOHAMID,this is my brother MOHAMID,this is my brother MOHAMID,this is my brother MOHAMID,this is my brother MOHAMID,this is my brother MOHAMID,this is my brother MOHAMID, and her name is Faru, under the TENT, BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  12. Methinks all this BS over proper ID does not mean much. Unless parties have scrutineers at the polls to demand such ID it doesn’t mean much. Most government appointed poll clerks do not put up much resistance to an assertive voter.
Last I looked democracy takes a lot of work and my experience is that most do not want to break a sweat. In old Reform days we had a scrutineer at every poll and it simply blew the NDP away. It kicked the crap out of their morale.
