Wait for it.The asshat clowns who formed the wheat board will be on side with these new groups asap and it will be back to the future, with a new fancy named wheat board.Oh.And farmers actually making profit? Watch for the new taxes/levies coming soon to a farm near you.
Farmers are making more money than ever but I think we can thank the warmists for confusing food with fuel. I could never understand why we sent farmers to jail when they exported to the US to get a better price. Didn’t the Wheat Board tell us they offered the best price? They wouldn’t have lied, would they?
Holy Mackerel PM Stephen!
Imagine how happy all the consumers will be when you chop the milk, egg and chicken marketing boards!
What we were always told was a U.S. premium price was actually just a CWB discount price all along.
Good riddance.
Can anyone give real life concrete examples of farmers being better off? Not seeking a debate, just a city slicker that was for getting rid of the board, but it doesn’t affect me or anyone I know directly.
Examples of better prices, cash flow, payments, etc..
Fancy That. One less layer of egg suckers , who contributed zero, but looting gone. Now forgotten because they where nothing but parasites to begin with.
Funny how that happens eh?
Just like when the ALCB was broken up in Alberta. No one remembers the endless strikes, regulations, shortages. In fact whole generations now don’t have a clue what it was.
I wish I didn’t.
I’m just happy to rub it in the face of the hypocrite a$$holes in Ontario and Quebec who for political reasons stonewalled western farmers from getting their “fair share”.

Never gonna happen. PMSH has done all he’s ever gonna do for consumer choice.
“…PMSH has done all he’s ever gonna do for consumer choice…
Let me finish that sentence for ya
…and property rights”
Geez! I hate agreeing with this guy! 😉
“the Grain Growers is well known as the national voice of Canadian grain farmers.”
Ears are for corn
What if we formed a national coalition and no one cared.

Oh I think it is entirely possible that supply management structures will be altered. I don’t believe that Harper & Co. will let the European trade deal and the Pacific trade deal die because of our supply management system.
However, I believe that there will be a large one-time payment to those that have quota. It will be large and it will hurt but in the long run it will be the best thing.
But just wait for the weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth when the enviro-nazis start complaining about milk and dairy products containing hormones. And the SPCA will be in there with pictures of laying hens being abused. Because they just HAVE to have something to protest about.
Happy for the farmers.
But…..the CBC is untouched, and the Tory socialists have decided to make war on selected private industries (telecom, real estate) that are already competitive, but are hands off the gasoline/oil industry, where you can drive down mainstreet, and see every single station at the exact same price….no collusion there, move along, nothing to see…..
Very disenchanted with the Conservative socialist party of Canada. And no, that doesn’t mean Shiny Pony or Hairface time, just a reminder that the Tories are all over the map.
“…I don’t believe that Harper & Co. will let the European trade deal and the Pacific trade deal die because of our supply management system….”
Are you kidding? Harper and Co. have about as much intention of touching S-M as they do health care.
And there will be no ‘large one-time payment’ to those who have quota – there simply isn’t the money to do it.
No, things are doomed to collapse. We will hit the wall.
And whatever party is in power at the time will be able to point its finger at some outside culprit and say, “See! It wasn’t US who brought your beloved S-M walls tumbling down – it was THEM!”
I don’t believe that Harper & Co. will let the European trade deal and the Pacific trade deal die because of our supply management system.
I want to believe this but I just know better. Harper is a stupid coward, end of story. If Trudeau were really smart he would seize this bull by the horns, blow off Quebec, and use the issue to smash Harper and put the NDP in its place, which is the fossil bed. It’s no less crazy a fantasy than the one where Harper ends SM. For now, our best option is economic guerilla warfare. Citizen smuggling. Hopefully some agro-laws in the US are gonna get gutted and that will make it easier for us.
Already into citizen smuggling. Visit the USA on a weekly basis and purchase dairy products.
This past week- Milk $1.99 a gallon
Shredded cheese- 3 large for $5.00.
Eggs- $1.19 a dozen.
God bless the free market.
Canada – where low income consumers subsidize millionaire dairy, egg, chicken, and turkey farmers. More likely is that poor kids just go without. Why isn’t the NDP leading the charge against marketing boards?
The CWB always told us that it was unfair to compare US prices to the prices the Canadian farmer received for their grain but surprise, surprise, one of the major effects of removing the compulsory Western CWB has been the way markets have moved to parity. There has been no need for Canadian farmers to attempt to market grain south of the 49th because prices north of the line are similar now. And yes dairy consumers could use a marketing freedom day as well.
nold…There is the odd farmer(quite a few actually)out here in rural AB who charge you 10 loonies to visit their farm. When you leave, you have 2 gallons of FRESH milk,a dozen eggs, and 2 freshly killed chickens.Plus if you are are really lucky, you get to have supper with them. They make more bucks this way, then selling to some store conglermerate. It is all tax/levy free. And if the Yanks and our economey’s keep going the way they are,I’ll support these farmers every chance I get.(Plus I have some surplus tarters from my garden this year, which my neighbours have happily used).
Unfortunately, America’s farm sector is almost as unfree market as ours. Lots of ‘new deal’ garbage still around and then some.
I’d like to see what Phil has to say about this…..Where is Phil these days?
“…Where is Phil these days?”
Must be hiding from the farm girls…again!
“but are hands off the gasoline/oil industry, where you can drive down mainstreet, and see every single station at the exact same price….no collusion there”
Um, maybe it’s because they can drive down main street too and see what the other stations are selling for?
Jeff;
If clothing stores had billboards advertising the price of their jeans do you think other clothing stores would match?
on a recent motorcycle trip thru Montana, premo gas was $1.12US per liter VS $1.25+CDN for regular.
my liberal sister says we pay to support “free health care”. thx.
