If you read the just released CFIB report on Municipal Spending in Canada. From 2001 -2011 they have spent 55% above the rate of population growth and inflation. The most of that money was spent on wages and benefits for public sector workers who now earn 39% more than those who have to pay the piper, the taxpayer. IN Vancouver this weekend, the mayors are demanding more more and more from the FEDS plus the right to directly tax us over and above what they get for property taxes. Meanwhile they are operating their own Foreign aid programs, which is Federal Responsibilty. Property taxes for foreign aid, then demand more for infrastructure. They call infrastructure sports complexes and arena’s for multi millionaire hockey players. And they need housing for more immigrants. People need to get involved locally, start a ratepayers assoc and go after the socialist bastards. They are taking the food right out of your families mouth. In my nearby town, our ratepayers went through the books, and they spend 1 cent of every tax dollar on water, sewer and garbage and cemetaries and the balance goes on sports and recreation and administration. Taxpayers need to wake up. And go after the Hog Troughers. Do a quick check on your local municipal councillors you will find that many of them are NDP retired school teachers etc.
If the partisan a-holes in North America don’t learn to stop putting their hatred and self-interest ahead of the fortunes of the electorate, it’s only a matter of time before we face a similar fate.
RFB, you got that right, well maybe excepting most prairie rural councils. Too many neighbours that know each councilor and keep an eye on things, which is a good thing.

In March 1917, initially for a couple of days the recently conscripted garrison troops and Cossacks watched the events unfolding and then either joined the revolt or stayed neutral. They all had family somewhere that was suffering from deprivations caused by the war. The police, yes, a few, including some Okhrana members joined the revolt, but by far most of the police were either killed or ran away from their posts and blended in with the population.
Ken, You mentioned in past post (can’t find it) that you were planning research on the Penner name. Big gathering in Saskatoon on july 25/14. Will you be there ?
I had not heard about this reunion, as I think it is a different branch then the one I am particularly interested in. I wonder if the U of Guelph geneticist Glen Penner will be there. He does a lot of DNA work.
